Currently, in my organization, I am using Dell NetWorker for open-source solutions like PostgreSQL and MySQL databases, and some large VM environments. It also supports the Dell library and is used for the library archiving system Dell NetWorker allows for extensive customization, supporting…

Easy to work and offers features for tape backups, disk backups, and whatever you want
NovaStor NovaBACKUP is still working on new features because they listen to the customers and integrate their needs into new versions. You can see they make progress with each new version. They are much faster than IBM, where you sometimes have to wait years for new features. It is very quick and fast. NovaStor have big competitors like Veeam, which is very fast and aggressive. It's good, but it depends on the price. I think NovaStor might be cheaper. They have a direct connection to their developers and sales teams, which makes getting answers very fast. Veeam has a lot of features, like a special reporting tool. However, I've heard from some customers that Veeam wasn't always the right decision because it couldn't work with their environment. But Veeam has aggressive marketing, which is why they are probably in first place at the moment, besides Commvault. IBM has lost its competitive edge and is trying to catch up, but it might be too late.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution is very stable, especially if you are using a RAC environment."
"It has the ability to support all kinds of backups. It can be used to back up databases, operating systems, virtual machines, Lotus Notes, and Exchange. It can also do remote image backups for remote sites. It integrates and works with Data Domain. It is an enterprise-class product that can be used for anything and everything across multiple sites and locations. It is also very scalable."
"NetWorker is fast and reliable."
"It is scalable software. All you need to increase is its RAM and CPU. It's pretty easy."
"Storage-wise, EMC is user-friendly."
"The full backup is a great feature. Restoration is also good and very quick."
"The software is quite complicated and useful for large corporations using different information systems."
"When it was required that data had to be restored for our customer, it was accomplished successfully and this has kept our end users satisfied."
"It is a very good and easy-to-use tool for non-technical people."
"It's the easiest way to configure it."

Cons

"The software also isn't user-friendly like Convault or Rubrik. The solution errors and management aren't so good in comparison."
"They need more support for image backups."
"The security features need backup and encryption. It would be nice if they added this feature. I would also like to be able to decrypt when restoring the security features. Hackers can sense these vulnerabilities today, and we need to have our enterprise prepared."
"It's not easy to integrate. We have to read a lot of documentation in order to configure the solution."
"The configuration is too complex."
"I would like to see encryption included in the next release to encrypt the data that we are backing up."
"Management of the software is a little bit hazy and not easy."
"I haven't had a good experience with technical support. It takes them a very long time to resolve issues."
"The room for improvement lies in the compatibility of NovaBACKUP with older operating systems."
"The price of NovaStor NovaBACKUP is an area that can be considered as a weakness or drawback, where improvements are required."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"You have to buy the deduplication software separately from the license."
"The pricing of the solution is not the cheapest compared to other similar solutions. The Networker is available as a component of the Dell EMC Data Protection Suite package and it should have the ability to be purchased separately."
"It is excellent from the pricing point of view. It is free with Data Protection Suite. Similarly, when you purchase Avamar, Dell EMC NetWorker is free with one terabyte license capacity. Its price is very competitive."
"The pricing of this solution is very good."
"Dell NetWorker is an expensive solution. None of the backup products are cheap. The licensing model offered is usually a five-year one."
"If you purchase Avamar, NetWorker is free with Avamar, for one terabyte license capacity."
"Dell NetWorker has two types of licensing models."
"It is inexpensive compared to new products."
"My company has to make yearly payments towards the solution's maintenance and support."
