Secure access has transformed our audits and weekend operations run smoothly
StrongDM does not support multi-port and distributed clusters, as the raw TCP resource type is strictly single-port and cannot handle protocols requiring multiple concurrent ports or distributed brokers like Kafka. Third-party client compatibility is another area for improvement, as StrongDM is designed to work with the standard Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection on Windows but may not fully support alternative RDP clients like the Windows Store Remote Desktop.Additionally, StrongDM has limited MFA and passwordless options, relying heavily on time-based one-time passwords (OTP) or Duo, lacking support for true passwordless setups like biometrics or hardware YubiKeys, and it does not support per-session MFA. These are the drawbacks that need improvement for StrongDM.

Secure management of sensitive servers and seamless applications with direct linking
The credential injection feature is highly valued, particularly for RDP sessions. A majority of customers use it for RDP, and a couple for Linux servers. The broader capabilities, including access to multiple systems, web-based applications, and clustering, have never posed an issue. The threat analytics aspect is also a robust feature that analyzes all pertinent information.

Pros

"By adopting StrongDM, we have achieved benefits such as eliminating our weekend outages, streamlining ongoing on-call workflows, enabling seamless migration with POC transitions directly into production with minimal effort, allowing our engineers to use their preferred SQL clients like MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Workbench, and facilitating compliance through detailed session logs and query capture for SOC 2 and ISO audits."
"Since using StrongDM, I estimate around a 60% reduction in effort compared to other PAM tools."
"StrongDM replaced the puzzle of different solutions with one single product, which made managing resources more efficient."
"The best features in StrongDM are that it is the easiest product in the market for this situation with easy access."
"I absolutely would say that the best features of StrongDM and what I appreciate about the solution is that time to onboard is absolutely minimal."
"StrongDM positively impacts my organization by helping with compliance and audit functions."
"StrongDM positively impacts our organization in many ways, mainly in cost savings from the time saved, and it has significantly improved both security and operational efficiency for us."
"The best features in StrongDM are the password rotation capabilities, which I think are pretty cool, and also how you can literally log in to any of the privileged servers through a single platform."
"The CA PAM product can help companies or organizations who are looking for Privilege Access Management, and CA PAM is an industry leader; a powerful, easy to use solution."
"This solution really makes a big difference."
"One of the valuable features is the randomly generated password."
"Manager user/admin’s password, so it’s more secure and password will be changed on time."
"The agent-based credential management solution allows clients to programmatically use the agent to collect passwords during runtime from Symantec Privileged Access Manager."
"It is great for identity governance."
"CA PAM is the least expensive option than most and is easy to deploy."
"Some of the valuable features are safe access to company resources, quick, comprehensible, and intuitive management interface, and good integration capabilities."

Cons

"I think the stability of StrongDM is about four to five due to the occasional crashes that I mentioned."
"I think StrongDM could improve by focusing more on network device management by allowing the addition of PAM for network devices, managing legacy network equipment, or helping to initiate enterprise onboarding where a lot of complex environments and initial setup are required."
"I believe StrongDM can improve its initial setup and onboarding experience for larger enterprise environments like Scania, where we have a lot of processes."
"StrongDM lacks the capability for web application injections or password injections, so we need to rely on other tools such as HashiCorp for non-human accounts or DevOps scenarios."
"I rate the stability of the product five out of ten because crashes sometimes happen when we are working on it."
"It would be beneficial to have better control and alignment between frequent updates and improved communication regarding possible negative effects on existing customer bases."
"Integration, however, is something which admins configure with StrongDM, and in that area, it can be improved."
"StrongDM lacks the capability for web application injections or password injections, so we need to rely on other tools such as HashiCorp for non-human accounts or DevOps scenarios."
"They need to do a little bit more on the mainframe side."
"The service account management functionality needs to be extended to application pools, SQL database, PowerShell scripts, service account discovery, etc."
"The rule management portion and reporting is very weak on its own."
"Some rollover credentials often do not work or you need a more complex configuration."
"The support for other remote assistance tools would be excellent. Free included tools in Windows (Remote Assist) and Microsoft SCCM Configuration Manager (ConMgr Remote Control) allow companies to reduce the amount of RDP connections and expand the usage of the tools are frequently used by companies to provide technical support for remote assistance."
"There are currently other tools on the market which are much cheaper than PAM. They can do almost all of what PAM does, and even do it better."
"I think the management console could be improved."
"Now, the reporting feature on CA PAM only shows the basic information in white-black table format."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The licensing is per user per month."
"They offer per-device, per-user, or monthly and yearly licensing models."
"The licensing is simple and scalable."
"Don’t go with an agent model. Don’t go with a model that has you buying a thousand different parts. Go with PAM that gives you everything, or you’ll just be paying costs of implementing another tool that PAM would have just given you up front."
"The prices are not low, but one can ask for a discount. It’s not the cheapest PAM solution."
"The version we are using is affordable compared to BeyondTrust, which is maybe three to four times as expensive, but it depends on the features."
"Appliances are relatively cheap, don’t skimp. Make sure you have redundancy, high availability, and enough appliances to manage the concurrent workload."
"I would prefer better licensing options for the 20-100 users we have at a given time."
"It is reasonably priced."
