Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"One of the most valuable features is the restore functionality that they offer.""The ability to essentially instantly recover a VM and have it run on the Cohesity Platform while all those bits are technically being recovered in the background is useful to us.""The solution is stable.""By using their Helios Cloud service, you have all your clusters, no matter where they are located, in one web portal.""The dashboard is very rich and provides details needed for a moderator.""With the ability to stage an entire lifecycle through versioning, integrated with AWS, it has made it possible to protect our corporation from end to end.""We are happy with the support provided by Cohesity for the issues we've come across.""I found value in the instant recovery with DataMove. I found value in the protection group model for applying policies to VMs. And in the overall UI navigation and the way that the application is laid out in the web browser."

"The initial setup was not overly complex.""In terms of most valuable features, we are mostly using the Cloud Connect feature. It is flexible because you can use it on-prem and on cloud.""Veeam Cloud Connect has helped us to reduce the cost of cloud storage for an offsite solution using their archive storage feature.""Veeam communicates with the vCenter in VMware, which means it's very smooth and doesn't interrupt production on VMware and you can backup or restore anytime, anywhere.""The technical support is good.""Replication is most valuable.""Its ease of use for restore is really good. For Exchange, the Exchange Active Directory is great.""Veeam Is very useful for most environments and can scale up in most environments - such as Amazon or Azure."

Cons
"I like that Cohesity offers the chance to have data on-premises and on the cloud. All the data is automatically sent to the cloud.""In terms of the product itself, there have been a handful of patches that have had to be applied outside of the GUI via the command line. It's very straightforward and easy and in the same redundant fashion, but not quite as simple as one or two clicks. I'm hoping that will decrease going forward.""In terms of what could be improved, it just needs some maturity.""I'd like to be able to pause a backup while it's running and have it resume when I tell it to resume.""Features I would like to see include a more visible data lifecycle monitoring tab, and an easier to read backup status dashboard.""Cohesity DataProtect can improve in the area of databases. We have had some challenges with both Cohesity and Rubrik being able to effectively back up in a timely manner the SQL Oracle workloads.""Better support for legacy platforms would be nice, but we should be moving off those anyway.""I would like to see the management of multiple nodes inside a tenant. If you want to manage a Cohesity environment, you either go on a per-node base, and you can hop from one node to the other, or you need to implement their SaaS capability but it always needs an internet connection. We would really like to have some kind of local management entity so that we can see all the Cohesity nodes in a customer environment and manage those nodes centrally. That's something that we would really like, and they are really working on it."

More Cohesity DataProtect Cons →

"The recovery and integration features of Veeam Backup Replication could improve. For example, all VM integration could improve, such as with Hyper-V and VMware.""In the past, Veeam had a host-based license, but now it will be part of Microsoft's core license. I don't like this licensing model. Host-based licensing is better for my system. Maybe so other organizations prefer the core-based.""It's a great product, but only if you have everything virtualized.""I have used NetBackup. For heavy workloads or if I need consistent backup and restore, I prefer NetBackup over Veeam Backup Replication.""There is always some room for improvement, especially with some of the different technologies such as DB2. Commvault has a DB2 agent, but Veeam still doesn't have it. We have to use the universal one for it.""It needs to support more applications. In terms of supported applications, Oracle SQL and Office 365 are supported, but I am not sure if it supports Linux-based applications. That's why I'm looking for an alternative. I am currently testing Commvault. The advantage of Commvault is that a lot of applications are supported with it. I am not sure if CIFS is currently supported. It would be nice to have this feature in case it is not already supported""Occasionally, in the course of upgrading one's virtualization platform, the backup can be ruined.""The implementation was straightforward. However, we used an integrator, the process could be easier for us to do it ourselves."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "My advice is to always negotiate for better pricing."
  • "It has reasonable pricing, and we know they can give discounts. If you look at the primary pricing or the list pricing, it conforms to the market pricing, but you have to have a discount on it. Otherwise, it is way too expensive."
  • "The solution's pricing is quite high, more so than that of its competitors, Veeam, Veritas and Rubrik."
  • "The pricing model is impressive and very effective."
  • More Cohesity DataProtect Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "My understanding is that it is a fairly small price point."
  • "Its software solution has a fee."
  • "It is more expensive than other solutions."
  • "If you tell Veeam that you're competing with, for example, NetBackup or Backup Exec, or Dell or Micro Focus then they may lower the price. They are very competitive."
  • "I don't know what the costs are for sure, but I think that it's on a yearly basis."
  • "Its price is reasonable for a big company or a big client. It is not too much. It is cheaper than VMware."
  • "Its pricing is really good."
  • "Veeam Backup and Replication is a cost-effective solution"
