Cohesity DataProtect and Veeam Data Platform compete in the backup and recovery category. Cohesity holds an advantage with its fast backup times and scalable architecture, but Veeam is favored for its seamless VMware integration and reliable replication capabilities.
Features: Cohesity provides fast backup times, a responsive interface, and seamless storage expansion. Its architecture simplifies operations and scales easily. Veeam offers reliable backup and replication, easy VM recovery, and integrates well with VMware, featuring granular recovery options for strategic applications.
Room for Improvement: Cohesity users point out the need to reduce backup times further, improve reporting, and enhance GUI. There's also a call for better error handling and support for legacy systems. For Veeam, users suggest enhancing physical server support, simplifying licensing, and improving cloud functionalities as well as offering faster recovery options.
Ease of Deployment and Customer Service: Cohesity’s deployment is praised for being easy across various environments, and its customer service receives positive feedback. Users find installations straightforward. Veeam is recognized for its simple on-premises deployment and reliable backup service, although challenges with cloud integrations are noted. Users appreciate the overall good customer service but suggest faster response times in some regions.
Pricing and ROI: Cohesity’s competitive pricing includes software and hardware bundles, which users find a worthy investment despite higher costs. Veeam offers flexibility in licensing models, appealing to diverse needs. Both solutions are seen as providing favorable ROI due to efficient management and reduced operational costs, with Cohesity noted for consistent reviews on cost savings from its integrated architecture.
Using Cohesity DataProtect is easier to manage, and it simplifies various components into one architecture, reducing the need for extensive human resources to manage backups.
The support can depend on the region, and for larger customers, I advise having a Technical Account Manager for better assistance.
I would rate their technical support a 10 out of 10.
The escalation from first, second to third tier is sometimes very long-lasting, but the resolve rate is quite high.
Most cases are handled perfectly.
Cohesity DataProtect is built on a scale-out architecture, which means it can effectively scale to meet various needs.
It involves acquiring additional licenses as needed.
In order to scale Veeam Data Platform, we have to pay a lot more money.
On the whole, any problems were more related to hardware limitations rather than issues with Cohesity DataProtect itself.
There are no issues with stability in Veeam Data Platform.
While there are improvements to be made, such as providing support for older systems like IBM iSeries and tandem systems from HP, the solution overall shifts from older methods to modern practices.
Compared to IBM, Veeam Data Platform is simpler but brings some challenges with automation in backup and Oracle backup configuration.
Additional features expected in the next release to make it even better, most parts are on the way, and the AI integration should be improved.
The improvement we would like to see is the option to scale Veeam Data up in smaller sections rather than large sections, which requires paying much more.
I find Cohesity DataProtect to be expensive.
I don't consider the price expensive given its importance.
Veeam Data Platform is more expensive than OpenStack because we pay for it in US dollars, while we pay for OpenStack in Egyptian pounds.
A reduction of 20% in the current cost would make the solution more attractive to clients.
The platform is based on a scale-out architecture with each node having compute, RAM, SSD, and HDD.
Some of the most valuable features of Cohesity DataProtect for me include instant mass restore, anomaly detection, and its ability to handle large data volumes effectively.
The most important aspect of this platform is data security with immutable data in the storage.
The platform is user-friendly, comprehensive, and compatible with numerous market solutions, including virtualization and bare metal servers.
The most valuable features in Veeam Data Platform are data resilience and data mobility.
