Has delivered consistent desktop experiences across remote locations and has supported multimedia workloads efficiently
I have utilized the HDX protocol for compression and audio-video capabilities. When users need to conduct meetings with customers or colleagues, they can use Teams solutions and open a bridge where video and audio are encapsulated within the ICA protocol, which is protected by SSL and certificates for security. This provides secure communication at good quality through the HDX protocol. HDX protocol has improved application performance as it is specifically designed for multimedia applications. If processing audio or video files, such as in telecom where discussions are recorded and then prepared as video or audio, this does not consume excessive bandwidth during the operation compared to a normal remote desktop connection provided by Microsoft. Everything is compressed and provides sufficient bandwidth for multiple people to perform similar tasks without interruption or session disconnection. All multimedia-related activities, such as playing content on YouTube, deliver a better experience with this protocol overall. I use multi-factor authentication for opening sessions to the data center where users access their machines or software. Multi-factor authentication has helped secure applications because users typically have two-way authentication software on their phones. They use a password first and then authenticate themselves through their mobile application to grant access to resources. This approach is effective because if a hacker attacks a user, they need more than just the password and username. They must also possess the device that provides authentication. The device typically has facial recognition, a password, and provides better security overall.

Has good stability and an easy initial setup process
We use the solution for remote access control and endpoint protection features The solution has the best remote access control and protection features. They should provide intermediate device limit options. It would be helpful for users who require more remote control capabilities than the lower…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The installation and maintenance are good."
"The price and user-interface are great."
"It allows us to mute users who adhere to a policy of not allowing direct VPN access for security reasons. It is easy to use."
"It has enabled remote working from anyplace, anytime, and anywhere and has simplified, secured, and centralized the challenges of O/S deployment across the enterprise."
"You can try XenDesktop as an alternative to VMware View, and the Express edition allows you to use up to 10 machines or users."
"The most valuable feature is the seamless application edition with the low-level network bandwidth because we have between 10 and 15 sites in France with a low level of communication needs."
"It is an excellent virtual office that works anywhere, anytime, and anyplace, and it is worth our investment."
"At this moment, 95 percent of our employees are using Citrix as the only tool to do their job."
"The biggest improvement is being able to solve problems or do upgrades of software without having to go onsite."
"When the pandemic hit, it worked out well because we already had the clients installed on it and we were able to remote in to do the work the same as if they were sitting there."
"It is convenient for my workers to be at home, therefore, it is easier for them as their second job to do the work, that is a plus, and I improve productivity."
"Remote access, we can remote access our clients, the workstation servers."
"It’s enabled me to remotely do updates to servers and workstations in off-hours – without needing to travel into the office."
"LogMeIn Central allows numerous active clients, say... 50, to use licenses for remotely accessing a computer from home, taking advantage of all the solution's built-in security features."
"The initial setup was simple."
"I like the encryption and security of LogMeIn. I think the end-to-end security on it, in and of itself, is really good. I use the two-point login system and it's great."

Cons

"It is slow. When everybody is logged in, it does have a tendency to slow down. You can tell the connectivity slows down a little bit, but it's still a good product."
"I think they can improve the troubleshooting to make it easier for users to solve problems on their own. For example, it could provide an error code and some instructions on how to reconnect to the database or do something proactive to fix the issue with the system."
"Even though we see our collaborative tools working well with Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, on a practical level we face challenges due to various factors."
"Citrix Workforce is good, but it needs improvement in diagnosing network issues. When errors occur, it is difficult to determine if they're due to network issues, Workspace issues, or environment issues"
"Over the years Citrix has increased the pace in which new versions are released, and often the product has not gone through thorough enough testing so the consultants are left very challenged trying to resolve bugs, and obtaining post-release fixes from the Vendor (Citrix)."
"Latency is also a major problem when adopting Citrix for video editing software or 3D editing software, especially editing 4K video or large file size. The Citrix virtualized solution becomes too slow, so we cannot use the VDI."
"Licensing service installation and configuration was the biggest challenge for all Citrix solutions, but now they have fixed a lot of issues."
"The sales team does not focus on client needs but instead focuses on selling higher-priced items."
"Sometimes it just fails to load."
"The price. I complain about it all the time."
"They should provide intermediate device limit options for the users."
"Compared to other products, I feel that their biggest weakness has been customer service. They are very nice, but things take forever to resolve."
"The update issues are an absolute pain. It says it is updating things, but the updates do not go through, and you try your hardest to get the updates to go through and they don't."
"I have had issues where LogMeIn has not been useful, then we have not been able to work that day."
"It's not really a true RMM product but more of just a remote access."
"Our clients are having issues with printing."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is a bit costly, but enterprise class features come with a cost."
"Where Citrix really needs to improve is in their support and in the way that they manage their licenses. Everything else comes second because if I'm not in a position where I can get proper support or manage my own licenses in an easy way, then it is pointless. Today, I am at a point where I may not be able to use Citrix anymore because they want to take away some of the licenses that I bought, pretending they are not valid anymore. That is frankly unacceptable. If they don't solve this, everything comes second because I cannot use my product."
"The product, XenServer, is free to use, and XenApp has a one month free license."
"They offer licensing per user. From time to time, they give discounts. Because it's a hybrid model, you can deploy some portion of it on cloud and some portion your on-prem."
"The licenses are affordable, but the support is a bit expensive, though worth the value."
"It's my understanding that the solution license fee for each user is around $300 US. If we buy a personal laptop for each employee every five years, then the total cost is five times $300 US, or $1,500 USD. So we could buy 100 personal laptops instead of the Citrix solution."
"The price of the solution could be less expensive. There are different versions to their solution and the price keeps increasing."
"My company opts for the yearly subscription model to pay towards the licensing costs attached to the solution."
"The price is a little high but it's competitive. The licensing process is fairly easy."
"Pricing is a little high. They require for LogMeIn Central to go into brackets. If you go over a certain amount of PCs or servers to access, going up to the next bracket is a big jump."
"We went with it for pricing reasons, that it was the biggest bang for our buck, by combining the ability to have a central security console, as well as a central point for user administration."
"It's probably worth the value, but the price increases over the last five years are getting harder to justify."
"It's getting more expensive and we are starting to evaluate other products. It's starting to become unaffordable."
"Having to spend so much money on remote access is what I feel to be a necessary evil."
"The price needs improvement. It is ridiculously expensive now, and no features have really changed."
"It is a little pricey. I have more than five seats, so I pay a $1000/year."
