Room For Improvement

Cisco UCS B-Series needs improved storage integration, user-friendly management, lower costs, HTML5 transition, and better support for new technologies.

HPE BladeSystem users seek better scalability, cloud integration, user interfaces, and support while addressing licensing, network, and pricing issues.
Last year, we faced challenges with firmware upgrades, but they were quickly resolved with assistance from Cisco TAC.
There are differences in security configurations, particularly in SNMP and SNMP3, between HP ILO and iDRAC.
In terms of potential room for improvement regarding Dell PowerEdge M, I would want to see something such as dense nodes and additional storage, as well as multiple network connectivity on the blades.
To do any customization, we need to contact HP technical support, and the process is not user-friendly.
In general, there is a 10% to 15% price gap compared to competitors.

Setup Cost

Cisco UCS B-Series is costly but offers value and reliability, with discounts available during year-end negotiations.
Dell PowerEdge M offers competitive, negotiable pricing, budget-friendly for medium enterprises, and often ends lower than IBM, slightly higher than HP.
Enterprise buyers consider HPE BladeSystem's high initial cost justified, though licensing complexity and regional price adaptation are concerns.
The management software, Cisco One, is priced a bit high but still considered reasonable.
Sometimes Dell may be a little costlier, but that is considering the services and solutions we are providing, which can be adjustable.
With around 19 years of exposure in working with various servers, including HPE, I encounter challenges in identifying reasonable prices during the setup cost and licensing process, especially for scalability when we need to contact different vendors for quotes to find competitive offers.

Its administration capabilities provide easy access to performance reports, logs, and utilization data, which are essential for effective server management.
The ease of troubleshooting and managing through remote access, using tools like iDRAC, significantly saves me time.
If the customer is changing their network infrastructure from 1GB or 10GB to 25GB or 400GB, the MX7000 fabric switch can support that.
The integration of storage and networking components within the HPE BladeSystem is quite beneficial as it is easily interoperable if we are using the same system for monitoring with the same software, which eliminates interoperability issues.
The feature I find most valuable is the ease of use.

Reliable product with efficient automation capabilities
Cisco UCS B-Series manages various processes, including handling payments for over 650,000 growers, running group financials, managing human resources, and operating our main ERP system, SAP. The servers' resilience was particularly impactful. Even during power outages, the servers resumed operations from the last saved point without human intervention. The enhanced processing speed also allowed us to complete tasks that took two days in just one hour. The automation capabilities enhanced efficiency and facilitated integration with our networking components, particularly since we also used Cisco switches. The servers' security was reliable, and formal training on Cisco products made management easier. I rate the product an eight.

Offers a good interface and return on investment to users
My impression of the scalability of the product is good. You can put a lot of memory in the tool now, and you have a good choice in processors, so you can go wherever you want or do whatever you want with your money. Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.

Enables you to manage all resources from a single dashboard using the OneView feature
In terms of improvements, I'd suggest enhancing the stability of the HPE BladeSystem, especially regarding network connectivity. We once had an issue where a system didn’t communicate with the network, and it took a while to diagnose the problem. Eventually, we discovered it was a motherboard issue, but we initially thought it was the network card. Improving the onboard administratordashboard to provide more granular insights, like clearly identifying faultycomponents, would make troubleshooting much more efficient. Aside from that, the system is superb and has been reliable.
