High performance solution that makes it easy to efficiently manage VM resources
In our case as a credit recovery company working with the state, our infrastructure is fixed and stable as we don't have the same need for growth as other types of companies. That said, one of the biggest problems with HyperFlex HX is that if you want to adjust your solution in terms of processing power, memory, or disk capacity, you have to buy completely new hosts. From a financial perspective, it can be very expensive to do so, and from a legal perspective, there are all kinds of compliance issues we would have to sort out before buying any new solution or application. Since we as a company will only be operating for perhaps the next ten years, when our HyperFlex solution comes to its end-of-life in 2024 our next step will likely not be with HyperFlex or any other solution from Cisco. Instead, from a financial point of view, we will likely turn toward a cloud solution because, that way, we won't have to spend so much money on physical infrastructure. We are, after all, only a small company and HyperFlex can be very expensive for other companies of our size, whether in Portugal or elsewhere like the United States. One other area for improvement is in regard to HyperFlex's integration with VMware. HyperFlex integrates with a specific version of VMware in such a way that HyperFlex doesn't always resolve security issues with VMware at the same pace as what you see in native implementations of VMware. This has happened in one or two situations in the past. On the other hand, the integration is otherwise adequate, especially in terms of availability and virtualization features (such as being able to split up each of our four hosts within VMware).

Infrastructure management simplifies for clients with integrated interface and enhanced resource utilization
Currently, the HPE HCI is based on the VMware solution, and most clients are skipping VMware because VMware has changed its licensing method. If HPE starts to use its own hypervisor for its HCI solutions, it will be the best solution. We push a different vendor for the backup and replication, so we only use the HCI, then we use Veeam for the backup and replication section.

Pros

"The integration to the network is a great thing."
"The most valuable feature is that you can manage the whole cluster from the fabric interconnect."
"It allows us to authorize our residents to come in using their own personal devices to access any of our clinical applications and ensure that the PHI is secure and protected."
"Performance-wise, everything is good. So far, we haven't had any issues. There has been no downtime at all."
"The most valuable feature of Cisco HyperFlex HX-Series is its performance."
"We used to have a single customer-facing data center, which was vulnerable to failure, and this product has allowed us to create high availability between two private data centers."
"The most valuable feature of Cisco HyperFlex HX-Series is its performance."
"Cisco HyperFlex HX is the best on the market."
"The solution has many good features."
"The solution's most valuable features are scalability, easy migration, easy recovery, and flexible backup possibilities."
"Before deploying the product, we did not have any enterprise IT infrastructure, and now with the HC380 deployment we succeeded in building all the required servers, organizing and protecting the data, which has increased our operational efficiency and level, and given us flexibility thanks to HPE HC380 and VMware."
"The most valuable features are the ease of use, resiliency of solution and data protection."
"It is a scalable solution."
"What I really like about this program, is that it needs little space and it works really fast, so it saves us time."
"If you were comparing this solution to VMware, it has more features, and it's very fast on the recovery."
"There are multiple advantages. Typically, being an all-flash storage, which is available through either SimpliVity or dHCI, the performance is much better because the IOPS goes high, so it's more powerful in terms of performance. Secondly, if I'm talking of SimpliVity Hyper Convergence solution from HPE, unlike the competition, even if three hard drives fail, you are still running the solution."

Cons

"I haven't been too impressed with the Cisco HyperFlex HX, honestly. It's a hard concept."
"It needs improvements in terms of I/O. Sometimes I have felt it is slightly slow while we are trying to provision VMs or access VMs."
"The utilization needs to be better. It needs more options."
"Ultimately we've noticed the updates and upgrades take a bit of an impact on the solution, more so having to reboot the solution and having to restart it."
"Cisco has to continue improve the management tools to provide a better command line interface with more functions. That would be better for administration."
"Stability is really poor, especially the storage stability. We lost data. There were disruptions of clusters and that's one big pain point of the solution. It's not stable enough, the documentation is not good, there's not much documentation available. For every call we need a tech engineer."
"The additional feature I would like to see included in the next release of this solution is more security. We want to add more data servers to all the hosts all over the world. We have 140 hosts that connect to one data center in Manila."
"The initial setup can be complex."
"I think that OneView should be replaced by something else for the management."
"The downside of the solution is the scalability because they grow using nodes, but it's not desegregate."
"I think the solution could be more secure and more economical."
"The initial setup of HPE Hyper Converged requires study and a comprehensive understanding of virtualization."
"I would like to see more deduplication."
"The storage efficiency is weak and needs to be improved."
"The installation was very complex."
"Installation and setup could be easier."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"When we negotiated with Cisco for the HyperFlex solution, they gave us a good price because they wanted to break into the market in Portugal for the first time. However, in general, I think it's a very expensive solution. It's a huge amount of money to acquire this kind of infrastructure."
"Initially HyperFlex was a little costly, it was higher, but Cisco wanted to get into our company, so they gave us a fair discount."
"HyperFlex is a little pricey."
"The product could be cheaper."
"There is no additional licensing cost other than the cost for each part."
"There is a license required to use this solution."
"Our licensing is Hybrid. We have all of our applications for billing and outage management through this."
"We currently have a perpetual license, which is kind of unlimited, so we don't have the normal licensing cost, yet."
"If I'm comparing with Dell, HPE Hyper Converged is definitely cheaper in my experience."
"On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the solution's pricing a seven out of ten."
"It is a cost-effective solution."
"The solution is too expensive for our customers. The pricing should be lower."
"I would rate the price at seven out of ten. There are no additional licensing fees, but it would be cheaper to go with a dHCI solution."
"It is an expensive solution, however. If they could adjust the pricing, that would be helpful."
"The product's pricing is very competitive because HPE provides a buyback policy to users...Users can make either monthly or yearly payments towards the licensing cause of the solution."
"The price per value compared to other solutions, like Nutanix and SimpliVity. (We made the deal before approval of HPE SimpliVity deal)."
