Advanced threat prevention has protected our perimeter and simplifies daily security operations
Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW) can be improved in several areas. First, the interface could be a little more intuitive for new users. The Smart Console is powerful, but it has a steep learning curve when you start using it. Some simple functions for common tasks would help. Second, the initial setup and configuration take quite a bit of time and expertise. It would be helpful if there were more guides, wizards, or templates to speed that up. Third, the price model could be more transparent and flexible. The license cost can add up quickly, specifically when you want to add more advanced features. Finally, I would appreciate seeing better integration with some third-party security tools we use. Right now, we have to do a lot of manual work to make everything talk to each other. Overall, these are minor things. The core product is really solid and does what it is supposed to do very well. The documentation could be more comprehensive in some areas. When we run into issues, the documentation does not have clear answers, so we end up contacting support. Speaking of support, the response time could be faster sometimes. We have had cases where we need help with a certain security issue, and it takes longer than we would prefer to get a response. As for features, it would be nice to have more general reporting options so we can customize reports for different teams and stakeholders without having to do manual work afterward. One more thing, better mobile access to the dashboard would be helpful. Sometimes we need to check on security alerts when we are away from the office, and the mobile experience is not as smooth as it could be. Again, these are improvements that would make it even better, not issues with the core product itself.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It is easy to configure and it is a valuable antivirus protection. I especially like the IPS feature of this product."
"Check Point NGFW is the first perimeter security solution used in our environment and it is able to deliver the expected results."
"Check Point Next Generation firewalls are very good, they have a lot of features in one box and they're not that expensive."
"The interface allows us to quickly adapt to new security requirements and maintain compliance with organizational policies."
"Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW) has positively impacted our organization by notably reducing intrusion prevention attempts, as we see a reduction in phishing-related malware that were previously bypassed but now are blocked, leading to reduced security incidents."
"There is no other product on the market that is nearly as perfect a tool for managing firewall rule bases and I know many of them."
"Deep packet inspection, Layer 7, and application layer monitoring and detection are the great features of Check Point Next-Generation Firewalls that greatly improve and protect an organization, its staff, and its resources."
"The product is flexible."
"I would recommend this product to any business that wants to protect its cloud environment, cloud server, or on-premises virtual servers."
"Hillstone CloudEdge is compatible with all the mainstream public cloud providers, such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Alibaba Cloud."
"The solution is very easy to download and configure. The initial setup was very easy. The technical support is very good."
"I'd rate the solution nine out of ten."

Cons

"The SmartConsole to manage Checkpoint Next Generation Firewalls takes a long time to load and gets stuck sometimes."
"I would like there to be a way to run packet captures more easily in the GUI environment. Right now, if we want to read packet captures, we have to do so from the command line."
"The virtual infrastructure of the central management requires a huge amount of resources to work properly and manage all the logs without problems."
"The perimeter antivirus can be improved. It's not as good as other leaders."
"In the future, some of the features that I would like to see would be the ability to integrate environmental solutions such as the metaverse or blockchain so that we can see them also in applications directly and on mobile devices or natively."
"Documentation for Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW) can be improved, especially the KB, knowledge base, for some parts of the configuration."
"Technical support could be improved. It's hit or miss in terms of the level of service and getting the answers you need."
"In our particular case, we have different web applications developed by the same organization, however, that requires a specialized protection element such as a WAF. Having this service or feature within the same solution would be very valuable."
"There is room for improvement in AI features, particularly for zero-day attacks and providing maintenance guidance."
"The solution needs more granular level reporting on system usage."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It may be considered relatively expensive, but the investment is justified when compared to other competitors."
"The price of the appliance should be decreased."
"Check Point NGFW is much cheaper than other platforms, including Palo Alto. Its scalability, especially with the Maestro solution, is a big advantage. If you're looking for good security at a reasonable price with a good return on investment, I believe Check Point NGFW is the way to go."
"We had to get separate licenses for the different blades. It would be nice to have a feature where we can get the multiple licenses all-in-one instead."
"The price may be perceived as relatively high when compared to the features and capabilities they provide."
"Check Point should provide some basic license for mobile access VPN by default, for at least five to ten users."
"I don't think the product's pricing is a good value. I feel it's very overpriced. I feel a lot of the features for a next gen firewall are there. But I feel it's overpriced, because of the stability issues. As far as support goes, I really can't speak to direct Check Point support, but the third-party was pretty terrible... As far as the licensing goes, it's pretty complex. If anybody was to purchase the Check Point product, definitely make sure they have an account rep come on site, and explain it line by line, what each thing is. It's not straightforward. It's very convoluted. There's no way you could just figure it out by looking at it."
"Licensing is on a yearly basis and I am happy with the pricing."
