Strong privileged access controls have protected critical sessions and improved credential oversight
The best features of CyberArk Certificate Manager include its robust privileged access management capability, session monitoring, and strong defense against threat vectors. PSM, PIM, and application legacy connectivity for CyberArk Certificate Manager are probably the best in the market. The real-time threat intelligence feature helps with preventing security breaches as it never allows any privileged access to get into the application until you check out the user ID and password, effectively managing credentials. It also includes MFA and session monitoring, tracking who is checking out the password and credentials, which are capabilities that cannot be bypassed, thus neutralizing threat protection. I use features like PSM, PIM, session monitoring, and everything else with CyberArk Certificate Manager.

Has improved certificate lifecycle management while offering reliable security and insightful monitoring features
DigiCert has been changing many things frequently, and they could improve communication about those changes. It can be complex, and if you're not using it daily, you might miss changes or not understand them, especially if you interact with it only towards the end of a billing cycle. They could improve how they move clients from the legacy setup to the new setup. Red Hat handles this better by giving options to try new features and communicating a cutoff period for legacy system retirement. As an NGO, we need extensive documentation around expenditure. It would be useful to get proforma invoices because we need those approved before making any purchase. DigiCert previously offered this when requesting renewal, resulting in an intermediate invoice instead of just a cart purchase system. This feature matched our internal processes and made purchases easier. Currently, they use an e-commerce mode, which can be difficult for bureaucratic organizations. The pricing for DigiCert CertCentral rates about a three. It has a learning curve, especially considering its evolution to DigiCert CertCentral. It's improving but isn't quite intuitive yet. Making mistakes can be costly if you're not owning the business.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"CyberArk Certificate Manager has excellent capability in handling certification renewals; whenever you specify any validity period that needs to be renewed within certain days, it triggers automatically, and I appreciate that aspect."
"Venafi takes care of automatically renewing and deploying your certificate so that you don't need to worry when it expires."
"So, from the perspective of risk reduction, it can be directly quantified in the value for the customer."
"The feature that I have found most valuable is their certificate discovery."
"Venafi solved the issue of many misplaced internal certificates, as we know that at one place we can get all the information, and the problem of notifications about expiring certificates is resolved, improving our overall system for Expedia."
"Automating anything, whether on-prem or cloud, is possible."
"Venafi is super stable, and we experienced no issues with its stability."
"Certificate Manager's ability to help with compliance and regulatory requirements, including SOX and Swift, was great; this is a major selling point."
"This automation is very useful and is my favorite feature on DigiCert CertCentral."

Cons

"Regarding needed improvements, the UI needs enhancement. Sometimes it experiences latency-wise issues."
"I would like to see included in the next release of Venafi integration with the cloud HSM's, Hardware Security Module. Additionally, I would say other cloud services, because it's not only cloud that's essential. If you have a customer that has a lot of their IT moved into cloud, integration with different cloud services is always an area to improve."
"Unfortunately, we didn’t receive a notification from Venafi because it wasn't configured correctly, which led to a loss of around 12 million dollars."
"Venafi's overall installation could be made easier."
"Venafi could enhance its offerings by providing more automation features."
"There are quite a few different technical aspects of Venafi that I feel they just missed out on; I'd have to look at my notes for the specifics."
"There's definitely lots of room for improvement with Venafi. They have a website where we can suggest new features, and they need to take that a little bit more seriously."
"The on-prem version is far more mature than the cloud version, which lacks a lot of features that the on-prem version offers, at least when we did the POC and evaluated the product."
"The technical support is somewhat challenging. They've automated many interactions, making it difficult to get technical support."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing model is complex, considering factors beyond the number of certificates. This complexity can make our payments to Venafi challenging if costs continue to rise. It is good but more expensive than the competitors."
"Venafi's pricing appears to be competitive within the market."
