Accessible from anywhere without the requirement to purchase hardware
We are customers of Carbonite Backup and I'm the company IT manager The fact that we don't need to purchase any hardware is a huge benefit. It also means we can have access from anywhere.  I think they could implement some new functionalities and I'd like to see some better training provided,…

Backup operations have become reliable and reporting now simplifies hybrid cloud protection
Veeam Data Platform has Veeam Enterprise Manager as well as Veeam ONE as valuable features, which allow us to generate various kinds of reports that are required for the customer. Instant VM Recovery is a good feature of the high-speed recovery features in Veeam Data Platform, and Continuous Data Protection (CDP) is also a good feature. Ransomware protection is a good feature added in Veeam Data Platform from version 12 onwards, and the ability to create immutable repositories is also a good feature in Veeam. The analytics part of Veeam Data Platform is a good solution because I have worked on various backup technologies such as EMC NetWorker and NetBackup. However, I have not used the analytical parts currently but will check it out. Streamlining processes as well as saving money are benefits that Veeam Data Platform provides for the end user, as it allows for application-aware backups and database backups without the need for various kinds of licenses that other backup software requires. Veeam offers socket-based licenses, instance-based licenses, and capacity-based licenses, which is a great feature.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The fact that we don't need to purchase any hardware is a huge benefit."
"I have found one of the most valuable features to be the integrity of the backups."
"It is cost-effective. A lot of times, people pick Veeam because of its price."
"Setting up Veeam is easy, and it's portable, too."
"The granular restoration that it provides for a business application is most valuable; for example, for Exchange, we can restore a single mailbox or email, and we can also do SQL Server restoration and bare-metal recovery for operating systems."
"This is a good solution for the virtual environment; it's easy to use with a simple restore feature."
"I like Veeam a lot because it solves problems, is stable, and runs very well."
"There are many features that include the SQL table-level restore, Instant VM Recovery, and SureBackup, which are valuable to us."
"I love the ability to either restore the entire VM or just a single file if needed."

Cons

"Lacks sufficient documentation or training videos."
"I think they could implement some new functionalities and I'd like to see some better training provided, whether it's documentation or training videos."
"The solution is snapshot-based with no vCloud Director integration and a very incomplete knowledge base."
"The VMotion feature is not reliable enough to ensure a successful migration operation."
"Could be improved with hybrid cloud integration backup."
"I think Veeam ONE should be included in the base product instead of as an add-on because customers tend to look for simple solutions that are integrated."
"Better description of the problems as the alerts are missing good descriptions."
"The solution needs to have the capacity to address more legacy workloads. For example, things like integration with tapes."
"Backup of physical servers. I know Veeam has vehemently said they will never go down that route but it's a feature I need, and badly."
"Physical workload protection and item level recovery for Linux-based systems."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"The price is quite competitive compared to other products in my region."
"The price is reasonable."
"I find the pricing to be okay."
"We pay on an annual basis. We pay roughly $12,000 for our software subscription."
"Veeam Backup and Replication is a cost-effective solution"
"We pay for the license of Veeam Backup Replication on an annual basis. The cost of the license is approximately 70,000 rials. The support and maintenance are included in the price."
"Veeam ONE is cheaper when you compare it with one of its competitors in the ops space, VMware vRealize Operations. There's a separate department that deals with the licensing, but my company is using CSP licensing, which is the service provider licensing, so my company doesn't fall under the normal volume at the Veeam Universal licensing program. The cost is commit-based and depends on what your point commit is. The point commit works differently, and it's similar to your sales provider license. If you commit to using one thousand five hundred points, you get a certain price. If you commit to using the eight hundred points scheme, you get a certain price. As you grow the point scheme, you get a different price range, so it doesn't matter whether you're using Veeam One, Veeam Availability Suite, Veeam Backup and Replication, Orchestrate, or whatever the product is."
"The product is expensive."
