Proactively identifies potential problems, helps prevent major outages, and saves us time
Our built-in DNS server monitoring tracks changes to DNS settings and latency for firewalls, eliminating the need for separate setups. This out-of-the-box functionality has even revealed valuable insights we hadn't considered. While pre-configured alerts are available, the system also offers extensive customization options, allowing us to tailor alerts to our specific needs and take full advantage of its flexibility. BlueCat Infrastructure Assurance filled a unique gap in our organization. While we lacked built-in redundancy for our systems, BlueCat offered several valuable use cases. For instance, it allowed us to monitor application performance metrics at any data point level, reducing incidents due to noisy SNMP alerts. Previously, limitations in remote health metric monitoring existed, but BlueCat provided the missing piece. This comprehensive monitoring capability means there's always a command available to retrieve any metric-based alert. It proactively identifies potential problems and anomalies before they happen. By analyzing historical data, it generates pre-emptive alerts to warn of issues before they become critical. For example, it monitors configuration files for changes that might cause corruption, detecting these issues before they impact system performance. Additionally, the upcoming version 8.4 offers even more advanced anomaly detection by analyzing trends in data points, rather than just single values. This allows it to identify deviations from normal usage patterns and potential problems that might otherwise be missed. BlueCat Infrastructure Assurance has been instrumental in preventing major outages by increasing our detection of security threats around critical firewalls, like those protecting Visa transactions and customer analytics platforms. This proactive approach has saved us significant time by identifying potential issues before they escalate, preventing lengthy detection and investigation processes. It saved us around 50 percent of our time. BlueCat Infrastructure Assurance automates several tasks to save engineers time. It automatically identifies potential problems and triggers pre-defined commands for investigation, eliminating the need for manual troubleshooting. Additionally, it monitors the standard deviation of collected metrics, automatically detecting anomalies without the need for engineers to define specific thresholds for each data point. This automation reduces human intervention and ensures faster issue identification and resolution. BlueCat Infrastructure Assurance offers visual workflow diagrams that combine diagnostic information with clear, actionable steps to resolve issues. Pre-built alerts come with built-in remediation plans, but these can be customized to fit specific needs. This ensures Visa can leverage both standard solutions and tailor them to their unique requirements. Visual workflow diagrams incorporating diagnostic information offer several benefits. Firstly, they provide deeper insights into the issue at hand. Secondly, they function as a step-by-step guide for our operations team, acting as both a reference and training tool for new members. This eliminates the need to consult separate documentation, saving valuable time. With these workflows embedded within alerts, the team can immediately investigate and remediate issues, improving efficiency especially as our team expands and welcomes new members. BlueCat Infrastructure Assurance has been instrumental in preventing outages for our organization on multiple occasions. The software proactively identified potential issues through interface usage analysis, including memory and CPU bottlenecks. This early detection allowed us to take corrective actions and avoid service disruptions.

Great visibility, easy to set up, and has very responsive technical support
The visibility and the ability to monitor user behavior are very useful to us. So is the fact that we have diagnostic capabilities. We divided the usage of these two parts - one for our business team and one for our support team where they can see the availability, performance, and application or service updates from a customer perspective. We appreciate that the team can understand the issue from our application, database, code, data integration, et cetera. We like that two different teams can use it and it fits each of their individual needs. Sometimes when we face issues with the new technologies or very old technologies where we cannot enhance the service, they move to work with us directly and start doing some development on this area which is very good for us. The initial setup is pretty simple. The solution can scale. Technical support has been great.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable aspects of BlueCat Infrastructure Assurance are remote commands, a core functionality for us, and automated remediation options."
"It gives good insight into inside of what's going on with Exchange."
"EG monitors all infrastructure elements (all OS, all database, storage, network, and web server) from a single console."
"The GUI is nicer than all the other graphical interfaces out there."
"The ability to see what the end user response is, so I can get a better understanding of what the end user is seeing when they connect to the Citrix servers."
"The auto-configuration or auto-Thresholding is very important because it saves a phenomenal amount of labor and setup costs and time."
"What I like about eG Enterprise is that it's easy to use. It's a simple product. You can get up to seventy-five to eighty percent of the required information based on real user experience and diagnostics."
"Single pane of glass to review status of the full environment."
"The most important feature is the ability to design, then implement monitoring tests on the fly as we are adapting to different situations."

Cons

"We would greatly benefit from expanded BlueCat integrations, particularly through a robust API ingestion system that allows for custom integrations with other systems. Ideally, this would include a user-friendly message queue system that facilitates communication between BlueCat and any external system via APIs."
"The integration must be improved."
"would like to see improvements in the alarm display console."
"The UI looks a little dated and could do with a refresh."
"I can understand why they designed the user interface (UI) the way they did, but sometimes in the management of the eG Manager, it can be a bit clunky."
"Their dashboards could use some improvement. The ability to customize them a bit more."
"In terms of areas for improvement in eG Enterprise, we are now moving most of our services to the OpenShift platform, and we need a way to monitor even containerized services or any service deployed on OpenShift, but that feature is still not available in eG Enterprise, so it's not good enough for us."
"Dashboards are difficult to create, and not so useful."
"The solution should improve on the security side and include some more API integrations into wider application platforms."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"BlueCat Infrastructure Assurance meets our budget requirements."
"They are aligned with other enterprise solutions."
"We paid about 300,000 Saudi Riyal for the solution and it was quite affordable compared to the competition."
"You may get some monitoring products with certain licensing you may own. Some of these can take ages to configure and setup, along with needing a license to drive the software."
"The cost for eG Enterprise is almost $100,000 for one hundred and fifty services. It's subscription-based and the payment is yearly."
"The product is very cheap."
"There are two licensing options: Perpetual and SaaS-based. The main offering, in terms of what eG prefers to offer, is the subscription-based rather than the Perpetual License. The price could be cheaper."
"They gave us a good price, when they were found out we were looking at other products because their price was very high. We were looking at another solution, then we came back to them was because they brought the price down. We selected them for three years."
"It'd be nice if the price was lower. That would be an improvement."
