Unified monitoring has provided real-time visibility and simplified network troubleshooting
One area of Auvik Network Management (ANM) that could be improved is that once it discovers network devices, the naming at times is confusing. Auvik Network Management (ANM) does not always bring out the hostname and instead brings out a generic name, which I then need to change. If Auvik Network Management (ANM) could improve this aspect so that when it discovers devices, it correctly retrieves the hostname every time, it would eliminate the need to edit each hostname, especially on PCs and printers. The GUI is fine. Auvik Network Management (ANM) has a level of access control where I can manage access and control user access to Auvik Network Management (ANM) portal. The GUI is acceptable for me. Gaining instant visibility into my network health with Auvik Network Management (ANM) is easy because from the setup, it is straightforward. For instance, I manage different sites, so all I need is to install Auvik Network Management (ANM) collector on any server in the environment. Once I install the collector, I automatically start discovering devices. The beauty of Auvik Network Management (ANM) is that it separates devices into tabs for routers, switches, wireless, computers and hosts, and others. At times it might not categorize some devices properly, but I can move them to the right sub-interfaces. In terms of visibility, it is very easy and fast compared to other management solutions I have used. Most other solutions are agentless, so they do not discover much and you might need to add them manually. With Auvik Network Management (ANM), I do not need to add anything manually as it discovers and updates automatically. Using Auvik Network Management (ANM) is mostly easy. I do not have any challenges. In terms of usability, it is fine. The visibility it provides is top-notch. Deployment is also easy. The only suggestion I would make is to make some of the fonts on the images on the topology bolder. Outside that, Auvik Network Management (ANM) is fine because from Auvik Network Management (ANM) management plane, I can push configurations to my devices, do backups, and many other things. Auvik Network Management (ANM) provides a network map along with its dashboard that gives me a real-time picture of my network. I have tested the intelligence myself by adding a new device on the network and after some minutes, seeing Auvik Network Management (ANM) update its topology. Even down to VPN and SSL site-to-site VPN access to other branches, Auvik Network Management (ANM) pulls out all these connections. When I have a new engineer on my team, I tell them to look at the topology, which is the network topology there. There is no need to draw with draw.io or Visio. It is Auvik Network Management (ANM). Using the network map and dashboard in Auvik Network Management (ANM) to gain real-time visibility into my network is somewhat easy. If Auvik Network Management (ANM) could work on making the pictures bolder, it would help considerably. Sometimes I need to open the topology in another tab and put it on another screen to make it bolder. If Auvik Network Management (ANM) could enhance the pictures to make them more bold, it would go a long way.

Good end-to-end voice quality monitoring and offers valuable features
The solution should have automatic baseline detection. On the per hour, per base, per week. That's usually the best. And on a per individual CI level. I know that they're working on it and when that's available then we will definitely implement it because it will reduce the effort we need to maintain all the products. Right now we have to set thresholds for every location, and it needs to be actually dynamic so if we have better thresholding, we'll have faster alarms across all our locations. We won't have to expend effort on it by resetting or checking them on a regular basis.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable features are the syslog tool and the nearly invaluable network map."
"Auvik's setup time and automated network mapping and documentation provides time-to-value, and the amount of value that you get then in perpetuity relative to the installation is very high."
"I love that Auvik can automatically back up the configuration of switches and firewalls."
"I like Auvik's detailed device dashboards that show everything from uptime to configuration revisions."
"One feature that is the most valuable for me is that after we added all of our firewalls, every time we make any configuration change in the firewall, it creates a backup and retains the change history for months. We can see and find out when a change was done and what was the change. The best part is that if we want to compare the current config with the config from two weeks ago, the tool pulls up both config files and tells us what the difference is."
"I love that Auvik manages all of the credentials for me."
"Auvik's visual mapping and search features have been very useful. We can locate precisely where each device is on the map."
"Auvik Network Management (ANM) does an incredible job of inventorying, port-to-port management of anything that's in that environment from a network perspective, and all six layers are covered under Auvik Network Management (ANM)."
"We use the solution to meet the needs of the customer."
"Good end-to-end monitoring"
"For us, it's very key to know the voice quality of the total solution, which is based on many components across many domains."

Cons

"When it tries to build the topology, it does it in a way that is usually incorrect. It cannot validate VLANs correctly, and it is a bit cumbersome. When we have a known topology, it makes it completely different. The network maps are not accurate."
"The only area that I dislike about the solution is the lack of exportability."
"One drawback I found with Auvik was its inability to generate clear network diagrams."
"The solution's interface isn't the most user friendly, however, once you get used to it and once you get into the groove and have a little bit of experience, it's pretty nice."
"For new users, the initial setup and customization of Auvik Network Management can be a bit complex, especially for those without sufficient experience in network or IT tools."
"I found the search feature somewhat frustrating. For example, let's say I'm searching for an IP address. Even though this thing exists, it doesn't do a good job of showing it to me."
"I would like to see some recommendations in terms of steps that could be taken to assess the alerts."
"They can implement a more collective network mapping to help reduce any congestive features. When it came down to many of the companies we worked with, their networks were already pre-structured, so we didn't have as much congestion. Given the fact that I could see how that would be an issue, maybe there would be a better way they could collapse or compile the network mapping issues."
"The solution should have automatic baseline detection."
"All the features and functions of the solution can be improved, specifically the user experience."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Auvik offers two publicly available pricing tiers, but there are also additional options that require contacting a sales representative."
"The pricing could be tiered so that you get a discount for more devices. We're fairly early on in the billing process, but it could be slightly cheaper."
"The pricing is kind of steep, but it's worth the price. There's no beating around the bush. It's an expensive solution, but it's really the best solution there is for us."
"Auvik's pricing is fair overall, but some advanced stuff is a little expensive. I like that the licensing model is based on switches instead of endpoints. We don't use some of the more advanced features because they're a little beyond our price range. We're using the tool internally, but the expense is passed on to the customer, and the advanced features aren't something that most customers are willing to pay for."
"The pricing was a little bit higher. They can work on that as everybody wants to save money."
"Auvik is not cheap. They've done a great job, it's a developed product, but you pay for it. When you compare, it's definitely in the upper-tier of pricing."
"I believe the product is fairly priced, but I would consider it a better value if it were improved in certain areas."
"Another reason that we picked Auvik was that its pricing is very good. The only non-open-source solution that had better pricing was PRTG, but Auvik had it beat in ease of use. All-around, Auvik has a really great price for the market."
