We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"With Discovery Bot, we can even have our business people enabled with process finding and do an evaluation on whether it can be converted into an opportunity.""I consider the verification station very useful because it allows you to quickly check if the data extracted are correct or if you need to change the process.""The MetaBots are by far the most effective system within AA. Due to the fact that no scripting is required and only the passing of variables or values to get a definite result. IQ Bot with the ABBY OCR is a powerful component to do multiple extractions in the shortest possible timeframe in comparison to human execution of similarly identified tasks or operations.""We mostly used the Database commands in order to make the process faster and more secure, rather than using Excel or a CSV for reading the input files.""Implementation of Automation Anywhere (AA) allows us to automate business processes and has brought productivity gains, error reduction, and speed of execution in multiple HR and Finance operations.""Object Cloning is the most valuable feature I have found for automating a website or a process that includes multiple mouse clicks.""The integrations with the OCR engines in Automation Anywhere are quite powerful. It has helped us in many projects.""The Control Room is the most important feature, where we can manage the bots and publish to various bot runners in the environment."

"The automation on offer is great.""It has a centrally managed infrastructure, and it is secure. Our client was using it because of its ease of use. They had already identified some workflows that were trained on Blue Prism RPAs. It was much more convenient for them to preselect Blue Prism as compared to other vendors.""The credential manager and logs are most valuable. We are using Blue Prism for complex processes because it is easier to troubleshoot in Blue Prism, and the logs are very accurate. It provides the ability to create smaller tasks, which makes it easier to troubleshoot.""RPA processes are helpful when we need interaction with different applications and close the technical gaps between them. In one of the use cases that we evaluated, there was a single Excel template from a vendor. The Excel file has 7,000 objects, and it included information about the part numbers, prices, and some of the details about each object of the aircraft. This file had to be input to SAP, so a human had to enter these 7,000 objects one by one, which is a pretty mechanical and uninteresting task. The RPA bot was easily able to import this file. Without RPA, this import had to be done by a person who had to do the same task 7,000 times just to import one contract.""As a developer, I liked the layout and UI, specifically referring to testing. I was able to watch the process through stages.""I use the basic features that are very useful.""It is a very stable tool that allows very complex automations.""All of the processes that we've automated have been completed successfully, and the bots are able to process them as expected."

Cons
"The IQ Bot has not yet succeeded in living up to its reputation due to its high cost, low ROI, and its inability to meet client requirements.""Automation Anywhere should add a couple of commands which will help most developers not to always use a script, a good example is in String operations.""As a developer or user, I feel that the performance of the overall package could be made a little better or reliable. For example, if I'm opening up a heavy Excel file, which is uploaded in some shared drive over the net, and I have my box coded to open that Excel to do some work or formatting on it, and depending on the network load and the size of the file, this client version while trying to access that file becomes unstable at times. It goes into the hang position until a human being comes in, ends the task, and restarts it. Until this happens, it does not respond.""It is not able to use OCR effectively and has limited usability.""Had we had access to the RPA bots in advance, we would have practiced before fully implementing.""Also, the Master certification should be provided free of cost for partners. More practical samples and examples of bots using new features in A2019 should be available in people Documentation. A2019 presentation material for proposing A2019 as an RPA choice should be provided to partners.""Migration is probably our biggest challenge. When we were trying to do the migration to the new version, it was a little bit painful. We didn't have that many bots, and I can't imagine the level of effort that some of the bigger customers have to put in for that. The product is stable, but moving from one release to the other was the issue.""The Control room audit logs should be moved to an archive for those that are more than six months old."

More Automation Anywhere (AA) Cons →

"As a user, I cannot directly work with the bot. On a daily basis, I use and do some work in Microsoft Excel, which cannot be directly taken into Blue Prism. Our company majorly runs on Microsoft Excel. Everybody has Excel sheets as their working sheets. Therefore, we need a kind of automation to be able to do things with this program. This bot is almost like an invisible staff that works between the servers but not with the users. This bot works well with SAP and things like that, but it doesn't work with Excel sheets. It doesn't work with the bots that we have, and I cannot invoke an RPA right now as a user. It has to be done by an administrator who has better control than me. It needs better integration with Microsoft Excel. Its price can be improved. It is expensive for us. It should be cheaper for a market like ours. We are based in India.""We didn't find it much useful for unstructured data. It is not easy to do the automation with Blue Prism if you have unstructured data. It should have better automation processes or connectors for unstructured data such as PDFs or pictures. It has a connector for different applications, such as SAP, but we use a few other applications for which it doesn't have a connector. It should have a more comprehensive dashboard that we can use to see the processes that are running and control the parameters.""All of the processes that we've automated have been completed successfully, and the bots are able to process them as expected.""My clients report that there is a little bit of a challenge regarding the cost-benefit ratio.""For developers, they should have some kind of recording feature.""If that bot is running 24/7, we have to allocate people 24/7, 24 hours a day. The cost of support can be quite high.""Its image recognition or the OCR part should be improved. The quality has improved in the latest version, but some of the handwritten documents are not that accurate. Its interaction with the Citrix environment should also be improved. Their technical support should also be improved.""Blue Prism could be compatible with Oracle's suite of ERPs. We have seen some issues related to this. They could do much better with their intelligent document processing solution. They're pretty behind and don't have attended bots."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "My only suggestion in terms of pricing is very generic and that is to consider that as much as RPA saves cost and does automation, please get a realistic estimation done on whether you are really achieving any ROI over your investment with RPA."
  • "It is one of the most affordable RPA solutions, and as for licensing, they offer a community edition that greatly helps anyone who aspires to learn about the product before buying the enterprise solution."
  • "The price of this product is good."
  • "I don't deal have cost specifics but I can say it is a tool that provides value for the money."
  • "Pricing is affordable and I would recommend beginning with the Starter Package."
  • "The pricing and licensing are definitely moderate to costly but easily recoverable by achieving ROI quickly."
  • "Automation Anywhere is flexible in terms of costing and licensing."
  • "From my experience, I can say that the initial setup cost is easily recovered over a period of time once the bots start running in production."
  • More Automation Anywhere (AA) Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Blue Prism has a really simple licensing model, where the licenses are not confusing and there are no hidden costs the way there are in UiPath."
  • "Blue Prism is quite costly."
  • "I don't recall what it was. Initially, we had our licensing through the consultant, and when we stopped using them, we renegotiated licensing. Blue Prism gave us temporary licenses during the negotiation. When all things were said and done, it came out to a decent price even without the vendor. So, our management has been happy with that."
  • "They work on a big partnership kind of program with our organization, and they also give us a lot of discounts. Its price is pretty much comparable to the other solutions like UiPath and Automation Anywhere."
  • "It is a bit higher in cost as compared to Automation Anywhere and UiPath. The rate also differs from client to client. Margins are also important when it comes to costing and licensing. There are some additional costs involved besides the standard licensing costs. You have the development team cost, which includes the project manager, development team, analyst, and testers. You also need a team manager. You also have the tools cost, architecture cost, platform cost, and the licensing cost of each bot."
  • "The price is on par with other products in the market."
  • "Its price is sometimes higher."
  • "I don't have an idea about Blue Prism, but I have an idea about UiPath. UiPath is scaling its business in different products. It has got products for intelligent document processing (IDP) to test or log integrations for chatbots. If you want to work on something like a true test automation, you have to buy a test book. In such cases, they have a predefined way of working with, implementing, or running things. This is where I see that UiPath might be a bit costly or expensive when compared to Blue Prism because UiPath charges for each and every product."

For any RPA tool it required have a generic /universal governance model where

    1. sponsor or Head of RPA implementation

    2. Business analysts

    3.Architects(solution/technical)

4.Developers ( Full stack - Build, Test and SIT)

5.Scrum master or Sprints head or Project manager

    6. QA ( Test automation) - optional

Above generic governance model/structure roles for handling any kind of RPA process.

One proven way to implement centralized automation management is via a CoE. The best practices of Robotic Process Automation states that the use of bots doesn’t increase negative risks for the organization in the development of reusable solutions. The responsibilities of a Centre of Excellence will depend on the exact governance model used. The most common activities include the following:

    1. Drive RPA in the business, training teams, and increasing awareness of RPA in those.

    2. Calculate the criticality and quality of the developed solutions, ensuring the application of best practices.

    3. Monitor the operation of bots and guarantee that execution SLAs (service-level agreement) are met.

    4. Follow and report the main development stages.

    5. Guarantee the execution of established governance processes.

    6. Guarantee the continual improvement of processes and tools.

    Business Continuity Requirements:

To have backup or disaster recovery machines for the critical RPA processes with load balancing using central orchestration in different clusters.

For any of the RPA there is orchestration tool which handles all the initiation and processing from one location have it maintained well from risks and disasters with load balancing.

This will helps in business continuity.
