Contextualized collaboration on records allows you to have historical conversations that are accessible by other users.
Chatter is a great way to connect your users, especially if your team is working in multiple time zones or locations. If you're struggling with why to use collaboration tools at all, I'd suggest you watch this video. One the best examples that I've seen is a property team who were managing the entire process from leasing properties with branding to shop merges via Salesforce. All of their notifications were email-based and they were getting 100s per day. By moving these alerts to automated posts into particular groups, the users could not only access multiple updates by using digests instead of per alert, but also choose to control who (group members) and how often they get those alerts.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Makes integration with other softwares or plugins easier."
"Confluence has saved time in finding information, reduced the on-boarding time, improved provisioning of repeatable scripted operational process, provided a central point for knowledge sharing and supplied better retention of Intellectual Property."
"Availability of documents hosted in confluence very easily."
"It's a great wiki and is easy to use."
"It has improved collaboration, transparency, and documentation quality among teams."
"Confluence has helped us through its ease of use and access to relevant information in a targeted way."
"The most valuable feature is the accessibility from different sites for different colleagues and the search option."
"Confluence allows creating new documentation very fast, which allowed us to organize our self-written documentation in a very efficient way."
"I love the streaming feed of information from the people that I'm following that encourages collaboration at a business level."
"The conversation function to engage different groups is the most valuable feature."
"Salesforce being the number one cloud-based CRM product, I think one can recommend it in the first go."
"It helped us to strengthen our digital community all over the world with a dedicated group to share project information and best practices."
"It is now possible to share information instantly with all the company without sending emails, but also looking for a topic using the search function."
"Salesforce Chatter allows for contextualized collaboration on records that allows you to have historical conversations, which are easily accessible by other users."
"It offers more than what you are looking for, for example, file sharing and "mentions"."

Cons

"There is no concept of peer review or a draft mode - whatever you write is live."
"The standard table capability is substandard and virtually unusable."
"In the next release, I would like to have the ability to import pictures."
"The way Atlassian Confluence handles tickets could be improved."
"The price could be improved. I have heard that certain adjustments would be made in 2024 and that it will then be more expensive, but I don't know the specifics."
"Some macros can be technical, and they are better managed on the Confluence cloud rather than on-premises. For example, when you add an image on the cloud, you can resize it just by using the mouse. This is not the case on-premises yet. You have to write pixels of the size of the image sometimes. Some of the very old macros are still there, and some of them are technical. It can be hard for users if they are not from an IT background to understand how to use them quickly."
"When we have a project that we don't want to share with everybody but want people to know that it exists, there is no way to do this in Confluence. When a project is not shared, people cannot see that it exits."
"It would be interesting if they had graphical templates that allowed typical agile ceremonies to be documented better."
"I would rate the technical support a 7/10 because Salesforce has its own way of looking at technical issues and sometimes takes its own time to implement or release changes as per their convenience."
"We would not select them again."
"The storage of documents was quite limited when we used the tool."
"I wish an organization could create a company-wide Chatter that automatically follows everyone else in the company so that widespread access was guaranteed."
"Chatter invites should be possible from the UI on opportunity records."
"Live consumption of the communication needs to be improved so that it can offer more features similar to Twitter/Slack, such as a live rolling news feed, notification bells (to avoid email alerts), ability to share multiple files or actions in one post, etc."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The issues I have with the pricing are in respect to the add-ons."
"Maybe we're only using 10% of it, but we have to pay for everything."
"We have to pay licensing fees."
"When you purchase this solution you get some support."
"The product is neither cheap nor expensive, meaning its price falls somewhere in the mid-range zone."
"The Confluence pricing is good. The only challenge we have experienced is with Jira and the add ons we use that need to be paid for separately."
"There are some cases where you can go on Confluence as a public site without a license, but you will not have all of the features. You can also have a Confluence site that does not require a license just to read the articles. When you have Jira Service Management attached to Confluence, then you can go through the portal of Jira Service Management and read the Confluence articles without the license. This is good because when you are in an ITSM environment, you have many customers, and you do not want them to have to pay just to read articles. Regarding the use of the full features of Confluence, there is a license cost, and it depends on how many users you want."
"There is an annual license."
