Provides high visibility and control with good traffic monitoring
Analytics is one of the areas needing enhancement, specifically more visibility and control over traffic to improve capacity management and high availability. The replication process between Master and Slave for disaster recovery takes too long. Dependencies on analytics impact the performance of the user interface, which should be separate. The complex setup process on-premises, especially with multi-node installations, could also be improved. Additional control in product declarations, based on operations like POST and GET, is needed.

Improved Integration Efficiency and Potential for Further Enhancements in Monitoring and User Experience
The policies in MuleSoft API Manager are significant features. We get the policies by default, with more than 25 out-of-the-box policies. If any additional requirement exists specific to the customer, there is a custom policy framework. We can build the policy according to our requirement, and deploy and enable it at the API Manager level to consume across different business groups, environments, or organizations altogether within the platform. Developing the custom policy is not challenging; you just need to follow the custom policy framework to implement. The custom policy and the different levels of SLAs of the API Manager are notable. Regarding the monitoring side of the API Manager, MuleSoft provides substantial monitoring with logs, offering search capability, raw data accessibility, and different subscriptions. With the top tier, integration with third-party platforms such as ELK or Splunk becomes unnecessary because all search capabilities, dashboards, and functional monitoring can be built within the platform itself. This is excellent from the monitoring perspective, and there have been recent improvements focusing on observability. For DevOps, if you want to make your continuous integration and continuous deployment effective, irrespective of the tool, there are options to integrate. For example, you can use the Maven plugin, platform APIs, or CLI to build your end-to-end DevOps cycle.

Fastest to get up and running and fewer idiosyncrasies than competitors
In terms of our usage, the main area of concern is that they tend to build enhancements slightly ahead of the considerations for what those enhancements and extensions are. So it could be slightly better communication with the customer base that would be my main issue with them. But as a product, it's very difficult to find any major faults.

Quotes from Members

Pros

"The use case which I have installed serves the intended purpose."
"Apigee helps with API security and management."
"The most important feature is the security capabilities and the way it integrates very quickly with other security providers. We have integrated it with Azure and it integrates quite seamlessly."
"Apigee has better scalability than WSA."
"Apigee has proven to be one of the best of the breed."
"I like implementing different policies, for example, rate-limiting policy."
"The solution is stable and reliable."
"It nice and easy for the clients and those using the product to access the product's help resources."
"Overall, the platform is pretty good, I cannot say which one specific feature is good. The idea of an API manager is really interesting."
"The most valuable features of the solution for securing APIs stem from the tool's ability to allow users to deploy policies."
"One of the more valuable features is the stability of the platform."
"We use it heavily because Azure offers better pricing than its competitors."
"The ease of policy maintenance and API functionality are key features for me. They streamline business processes by allowing configurable control over policies, instead of writing codes and making maintenance more straightforward."
"It provides various advantages in the integration field, including support for Azure services and cloud integrations."
"If you adopt the whole platform, you can build composable applications. This will cut your time creating new applications and updating them – once you have everything running – by up to 50%."
"The ESB, the enterprise service bus is what we primarily use. In addition to that, the API management. These are the two tools which we have been using extensively. The enterprise platform."
"You can set up workflows and write limited pieces of logic."
"The feature I find most valuable is that this solution allows us to manage our security."
"The scalability is very good. That was a key factor in the selection, like how it could be pushed to high volume and scalability, which seemed to be very good."
"It is a good product for API management."
"The most valuable feature is the load balancing with the circuit-breaker function."
"The portal for developers that this solution provides has great functionality."

Cons

"Compared to its competitors, such as Axway AMPLIFY API Management and Layer7 API Management, Apigee could benefit from having more policies to cater to various use cases. This would reduce the need for writing custom JavaScripts. If more features come straight out of the box, we can leverage them instead of writing custom code to achieve the same functionality."
"Development IDE, especially for Architect Review."
"There is room for improvement in v-logging for each transaction. Additionally, Apigee only allows validation of transactions up to a four-hour period, which requires manual hovering over the date and time."
"Unlike WSA, Apigee does not have a partnership model, something which makes it a bit easier for companies such as ours to go with the former solution."
"The solution tends to hide the limitations to keep selling the product."
"The Apigee cloud admin UI could be more user-friendly by adding a few more features."
"The ability to work across different management solutions in a plug and play fashion would make it easier for faster uptake."
"Since it is based on various open sourced projects, we might have to depend on the fixes provided by those components rather than Apigee directly fixing the issues."
"The product's price should be available for public review since it is not currently available for others to see, making it one of the areas where the product has certain shortcomings."
"There are some loopholes in the security policies that could be improved."
"The pricing is a bit expensive."
"The solution's price is high."
"Their studio performance is very slow, it requires a lot of memory, and should be improved."
"The cost model could be improved."
"MuleSoft has advanced features but is slower."
"The solution should facilitate the creation of custom connectors for use cases where a user would require extra connectors."
"In terms of our usage, the main area of concern is that they tend to build enhancements slightly ahead of the considerations for what those enhancements and extensions are. So it could be slightly better communication with the customer base that would be my main issue with them."
"We ran it for a while, but then we decided to move away from Tyk, because Tyk's cloud version, the SaaS version, has a significant limitation of limited flexibility, so you can't program very much."
"It is a young product and does not have the kind of brand recognition that would make it a more popular solution with our clients."
"We would like a better tool for generating documentation for the APIs to be developed."
"I would like to see some additional features like having some extensions for .NET core because we use it for our back-end language."
"Sometimes when new features are released, they are not immediately stable."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution’s pricing could be more competitive."
"Apigee has several different licenses you can obtain depending on your needs."
"The price of Apigee could be less expensive. The solution can be purchased monthly or annually."
"The solution is a bit expensive. It's not for organizations in the early stages of their lifecycle but is more suited for mid- to enterprise-level platforms. Pricing varies by deployment model, with SaaS being the cheapest, costing around $100,000 per year for a subscription. For hybrid and on-prem deployments, the price increases. The on-prem model includes a license and additional installation and configuration professional service costs, which can be at least $40,000 to $60,000 for the initial setup. While it's not cheap, it offers long-term value and can be worthwhile."
"Compared to other products, Apigee had higher pricing."
"It is more expensive when you compare to open-source products or other vendors."
"The prices are comparable."
"The current version of Apigee is not too expensive, but we are currently in talks with Google to understand their roadmap for Apigee X. However, we anticipate that with the introduction of Apigee X, the pricing will likely increase."
"The product is expensive."
"The price of Mulesoft Anypoint API Manager is very high."
"If one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the product price as six and a half to seven."
"When it comes to determining price, the pre-sales team interacts with the customer's primary integration team and the price is negotiated based on the specific usage of the system."
"The pricing is very expensive, although you get a lot of power from the product."
"I want MuleSoft Anypoint API Manager to be cheaper because when you scale up, it becomes very costly. Price-wise, I'd give it a seven out of ten."
"It is extremely high, and I would rate it one out of ten."
"It is really expensive from a Zimbabwean perspective."
"We are using the open-source version of this product, so there are no licensing costs for its use."
"It had a free version, which suited many of our needs, but not all, but we were happy to go ahead with the licensed version as well, which is the paid version."
"The price is low compared to other products of a similar type."
"The cost curve is far smoother, both in terms of volume and the number of calls it's running on, compared to most competitors. So it's a tad more expensive at the very low end, but the curve is nothing like Apigee or some of the others."
"There are different versions and plans available depending on the requirements, so there is flexibility in terms of the pricing."
