Secure file sharing has protected global storage and improves confidence with external partners
The best features Antivirus for Amazon S3 offers include that it is really a built-in feature which is really great, as you don't have to do anything extra, there's no operational complexity or cost overhead associated with it, and because it's a managed solution, it's easy for us to configure policies as S3 buckets are created globally and make sure they have the necessary virus protection as needed. The simplicity and ease of policy configuration have helped my team day-to-day because, as it is part of the AWS ecosystem, I don't need to really hire a separate skill set to configure this service, and moreover, if I use the console, all the features are available to me at a click, and I can also programmatically control it, making configuring the antivirus part of setting S3 objects rather than setting up a separate service altogether on top of S3.

Very good malware and goodware repository and enables us to look more deeply at indicators of compromise
The automated static analysis of malware is the most valuable feature. Its detection abilities are very good. It hits all of the different platforms out there, platforms that see the items in the wild. Also, the solution’s object and file analysis provide us with actionable insights. Its malware and goodware repository is very good. It's very robust. It gets all of the different repositories that are out there that do analysis and brings them under one roof where we can statically analyze for those indicators of compromise and look at them more deeply. If we need to go deeper into things, we can do that.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Antivirus for Amazon S3 is a great tool that is reliable and easy to integrate, adding an essential security layer for S3-based workflows which may be subject to malicious attacks and protecting the overall infrastructure while also reducing the burden of checking those files on your own."
"Antivirus for Amazon S3 has positively impacted my organization by reducing the number of people who need to monitor threats or malicious code injections."
"In my experience, the best feature Antivirus for Amazon S3 offers is increased security."
"Integrating Amazon S3 antivirus scanning with our security monitoring systems has significantly streamlined my team's workflow and improved our response efficiency."
"If you want your S3 bucket to be secure and virus-free, you can use Antivirus for Amazon S3; it will be very fast in scanning your files, will give alerts if any issues arise, and will delete the viruses and clean them from your bucket."
"Antivirus for Amazon S3 has improved our overall security posture, especially for compliance-heavy applications, made my team more confident handling external file uploads, reduced custom infrastructure costs by around 30%, and decreased development times by about 20% due to the managed service."
"Antivirus for Amazon S3 has positively impacted my organization by making the entire organization much safer, allowing partners to safely upload their personal files, images, and videos to the Airbnb platform, which ensures that we as a company can be a reliable partner to our partners with safe integration."
"Antivirus for Amazon S3 has positively impacted my organization by giving us the confidence that we can really expose our S3 buckets to the external world without having to worry about security, and from a developer standpoint, we know that at any point in time globally if S3 buckets are created, we have templates that will automatically enforce the antivirus policies there, improving our overall security posture rather than compromising it because we do have a large footprint on S3."
"As far as the availability of the content is generally concerned and the number of malicious programs that can be looked up in the repository, these are very extensive."
"We had nothing in the environment to do such analysis, so it's been a savior in many ways."
"We have complete faith that it can do that for us, and can do it at scale."
"The automated static analysis of malware is the most valuable feature. Its detection abilities are very good. It hits all of the different platforms out there, platforms that see the items in the wild."
"As far as the malware repository is concerned, it's extensive. It's a good source for finding samples, where we are unable to find them on other channels or by leveraging other sources."
"As far as static analysis information is concerned, we use most of the information that is available in order to determine whether or not we might be dealing with a malware variant. This includes information that is related to Java rules. This is also related to malware families indicated or specific malicious software variants that are labeled by name."
"ReversingLabs has a large sample size."
"It offers reports on a great many more file types than the other analysis solutions we have. It can give us a more in-depth analysis and better reporting on a larger number of file types. It also gives us a more comprehensive score on a number of things as well, and that's why we're using it as a front-end filter. It gives us more information... It's valuable because of its depth of information, as well as the breadth it gives us. There aren't a lot of tools that cover all of the different file types."

Cons

"I rate it seven out of ten because if they can add the improvements that I suggested, then I will rate it higher obviously."
"I think there is a problem with pricing while scaling, and it is a blocker for big corporations as there is a subscription for the instance plus volume of scanning."
"Antivirus for Amazon S3 could be improved by addressing that it is a little bit complicated to set up because you have to deploy it via CloudFormation or Terraform, and it can be a little bit difficult trying to troubleshoot the image or container issues."
"One limitation I have identified is that advanced customizations can be tricky with fully managed solutions for Antivirus for Amazon S3."
"I think Antivirus for Amazon S3 could be improved by slightly further automating the process; beyond just the ability to send notifications, if an email could be crafted or if communication through any channel could be established with the person or team who uploaded the file, that level of automation could be avoided on our end, allowing us to configure an entire loop from detecting a malicious upload to contacting the uploader and taking corrective action, which I think would be really cool."
"Overall, Antivirus for Amazon S3 works well, but there are a few areas where it could be improved."
"I think Antivirus for Amazon S3 can be improved by including patches over time and adding forensic analysis of data to show where viruses may have been incorporated."
"Integration, support, and documentation are areas where Antivirus for Amazon S3 has room to improve."
"While the company is very helpful, it would be very much appreciated to have extensive proof of concept scripts for the different APIs available, though not for all the APIs that we have purchased. Respective scripts are available, but those scripts which are available are typically not of very high quality."
"The solution needs to improve integrations."
"I would like to see if we could do a little bit more of bulk uploading of hash sets. Right now, I can only do them individually."
"The product support could be better at times. Sometimes, the resources that they provide could be of higher quality."
"We would really like further integration with our threat intelligence platform, which is called ThreatConnect. We would also really like further integrations with an endpoint protection product we use called Tanium. The reason I mentioned both of these is that ReversingLabs claims to have extensive integrations with both of them, but they did not work for us."
