Managed analytics has freed our engineers to focus on real-time dashboards and deeper insights
Their best features include fully managed ClickHouse, their ClickHouse expertise, their customer support team, and the flexible deployment options they offer. Scaling is easier, and they provide multi-cloud support, allowing us to deploy on AWS, GCP, or Azure in any region. The biggest benefit and major difference created for our team comes from using their fully managed ClickHouse infrastructure, which eliminates the need to manage cluster provisioning, upgrades, backups, and monitoring ourselves. As a result, our team spends more time building analytics and dashboards while benefiting from a reliable, high-performance database with minimal operational overhead. Another valuable feature worth mentioning about Altinity.Cloud is their ClickHouse expertise; they are very skilled in how to optimize and how well we can extract performance from ClickHouse. Altinity.Cloud has had a positive impact on our organization by simplifying the management of our analytics infrastructure. It has reduced the operational effort required to run ClickHouse, improved the query performance for large data sets, and enabled our team to deliver dashboards and analytics faster. As a result, our engineers spend less time on database maintenance and more time building features and analyzing business data and their outcomes. Some of the measurements we have seen from using Altinity.Cloud include fifty to sixty percent less time spent on database administration. We do not need to handle provisioning, ClickHouse version upgrades, backups, or monitoring; those are all managed by Altinity. Additional outcomes include significantly faster analytics queries, faster deployment of the analytics environment, lower operational costs, and higher engineering productivity.

We also have a close relationship with the team that does the Dremio maintenance for the database, like upgrading the versions and they know about some specific problems we had in the past, such as a memory leak. We had a memory leak on some versions, which sometimes stopped the service. Since we are using Dremio installed like a server, not a SaaS solution, many times we need to stop and restart the service to clear all the cache and all that, and this is the thing I should add. I see that many times the new versions of Dremio have not fixed old bugs, and in some new versions, old problems that were previously fixed come back again, so I think the upgrade part could use improvement. I remember using some features in the past, like pivot tables, which proved to be really difficult, but I know this is a fault also for other vendors. Pivoting, transposing, and unpivoting are often not so good. CTEs also many times prove to be not so good, so I think these two main items could be improved significantly if they standardize them.

Pros

"The best features Altinity.Cloud offers include that it is a fully managed database as a service, it is also fully open source so it is very good to access, there are flexible deployments, there is easy integration with some third-party tools such as Kafka, and it also has very good monitoring tools."
"Altinity.Cloud has had a positive impact on our organization by simplifying the management of our analytics infrastructure, reducing the operational effort required to run ClickHouse, improving the query performance for large data sets, and enabling our team to deliver dashboards and analytics faster so our engineers spend less time on database maintenance and more time building features and analyzing business data and their outcomes."
"Dremio is very easy to use for building queries."
"Everyone uses Dremio in my company; some use it only for the analytics function."
"Dremio has positively impacted my organization as nowadays we are connected to multiple databases from multiple environments, multiple APIs, and applications, and Dremio organizes everything in an amazing way for me."
"The most valuable feature of Dremio is it can sit on top of any other data storage, such as Amazon S3, Azure Data Factory, SGFS, or Hive. The memory competition is good. If you are running any kind of materialized view, you'd be running in memory."
"The native error interface has been most valuable."
"Overall, you can rate it as eight out of ten."
"Dremio has positively impacted my organization by helping us create a single source of truth, a singular data warehouse where we can have access to all of the data sets."
"Dremio gives you the ability to create services which do not require additional resources and sterilization."

Cons

"I have not seen a return on investment."
"Some of the areas we found for improving Altinity.Cloud include simpler pricing with better costs as the cluster scales and a more intuitive management UI for new ClickHouse users."
"I cannot use the recursive common table expression (CTE) in Dremio because the support page says it's currently unsupported."
"Many developers and programmers, when they are starting to work in this specific field or area, are much more used to SQL Server, the Microsoft way of querying, and Dremio has some features that are different when we are talking about the syntax of coding, so I would improve that."
"Dremio takes a long time to execute large queries or the executing of correlated queries or nested queries."
"The community version lacks information or documentation."
"We had a memory leak on some versions, which sometimes stopped the service."
"There are performance issues at times due to our limited experience with Dremio, and the fact that we are running it on single nodes using a community version."
"They need to have multiple connectors. Starburst is rich in connectors, however, they are lacking Salesforce connectivity as of today."
"They need to have multiple connectors."
