Automated complex ETL workflows have reduced coding effort and improved data integration
One area for improvement is in integrating mostly the data which comes from telemetry, where I can see some sort of improvisations can be made. It is a massive amount of unstructured data, and I believe Alteryx is able to handle it, but there can be some improvements. Suggestions for improvements in Alteryx include areas for increasing efficiency, particularly in processing telemetry data, which involves dealing with large volumes of unstructured data. Additionally, I believe when we use filter tools immediately after the input source, there can be slowdowns when handling massive data. The user experience of Alteryx is generally good, but there are areas for improvement from a user's perspective, particularly regarding user interface enhancements. I think there's always room for improvement, but otherwise, Alteryx has been a great tool for me. We haven't experienced significant disruptions while increasing data volumes, though I sense there could be performance issues as data grows exponentially. This is an area that could use improvement in Alteryx.

Efficient data lake storage and ingestion engines with room for automation improvement
While functional during ingestion workflows, the automation toolkit required manual processes. Challenges included identifying how to get users to store data appropriately and segregating files for long-term storage. Attaching the appropriate metadata to files was not straightforward since it wasn't part of a traditional user workflow. Some connectors for specific instruments were difficult to work with and weren't available out of the box.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We automate analytics tasks saving thousand of ours from our clients, starting with a scenario of a lot of manual work and then automating it, offering very good analytics with much more power through geospacial analytics and data science."
"Alteryx is the kind of software that a corporation would want to go with and to deploy for people who are not really data scientists and that have to use data, design dashboards, clean and prepare data and so on."
"It gives the power back to the end-users."
"It is a very user-friendly product that doesn’t require a strong technical background; you can build something within an hour."
"There are a lot of good customization capabilities."
"I have been pretty satisfied with Alteryx's data blending feature as it is quite easy to use as a non-code platform."
"The most valuable feature of Alteryx is its performance. It is a powerful solution."
"The product's most valuable features include its ease of use for non-technical users and machine learning capabilities."
"The ingestion engines were pretty good."
"The crawler agents they provide, as well as TetraScience exclusive parsers, allow for specific instruments that we use in our labs with proprietary formats to extract data and put it into more standard formats for various purposes."

Cons

"Configuration is very low."
"One area for improvement is in integrating mostly the data which comes from telemetry, where I can see some sort of improvisations can be made."
"The product could offer more connectors and more databases with support for the in-database function."
"We need more documentation."
"For smaller clients with ten to 15 employees, Alteryx can be expensive. The server capabilities are costly too. The technical support could also improve by being quicker in response times."
"Visualization: There is room to improve here."
"Deep learning models are not currently supported."
"I'd like to see more artificial intelligence business tools or features in Alteryx."
"While functional during ingestion workflows, the automation toolkit required manual processes."
"The application has a difficult-to-use parsing capability, which requires a lot of reengineering when the use case isn't specifically met."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Its price should be lower. The key thing that we see is that talking about ROI is an important element at the time of purchase. Cost becomes a factor in every discussion. Justifying the ROI for these kinds of workflows is always a challenge, and the only way to counter the challenge is by addressing the pricing."
"The designer license costs 5000 euros. The server edition is 1000 euros."
"A designer and scheduler for $13K/year in total is pretty much earning you the money back in time and in other resources."
"I rate the price of Alteryx Designer a ten on a scale of one to ten, where one is low price and ten is high price."
"While it offers extensive features, including predictive analytics, for those who mainly use it for data preparation and blending, the cost can be prohibitive."
"Alteryx is generally more suited for medium—to large companies due to its potentially high licensing costs."
"It is too expensive for our country. We are a small country, so it is too difficult to sell this solution. With Alteryx Designer, if you want to automate the data and run the flows, you have to pay more money. We were trying to automate the flows, and we found out that people have to pay 600 more for this feature, which makes it even more expensive. We are a partner for Tableau, and we are working with Tableau Prep, which is like a mini Alteryx. In Tableau Prep, you can drag and drop and make new connections with the different data sources. You can make all the connections. You can also publish a source. You don't have to pay more money with Tableau. You pay like $5 per user per month to access it."
"I rate the solution's pricing as a ten, as it is highly priced."
