Able to hold a huge amount of data in its memory, but it is very expensive
We had challenges with a very complex workflow, and we couldn't find the root cause because it caused an error in the output. We recreated the workflow, and it solved the problem. Alteryx Designer integrated seamlessly with other tools and systems in our workflow. It's not convenient for us to develop any machine learning model using Alteryx Designer. Other data science studio tools are much more advanced than the data science studio tools in Alteryx. We do maintenance on our workflow, but we try to be careful with the upgrades because we don't want any upgrades to impact our production workflows. One or two people are needed to maintain the solution. Overall, I rate the solution a seven out of ten.

Easy drag-and-drop interface and supports custom Python functions, but the performance needs to be better
The memory processing needs to be improved because when you deal with a large amount of data, the interface tends to hang a little bit. When the system boots up, it can take between two and five minutes, depending on the system memory (RAM). If the system is low on memory then it takes a long time to start up. If you are not familiar with Python then this product will be a little more difficult for you. It can take a long time to migrate from one version to the next because there are a lot of processes to deal with.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Alteryx Designer offers a drag-and-drop interface, making it highly user-friendly. Unlike Python and Apache Airflow, which require coding, Alteryx allows users to accomplish tasks without any programming knowledge. Its simplicity makes it accessible to anyone, even those without coding experience, and this ease of use is one of Alteryx's key advantages."
"It has an easy setup process."
"We use Alteryx Designer for analytics. It's quite helpful because once we set it up, we don't have to manually update or process data repeatedly. It saves time, especially for financial reporting, which is typically done monthly or quarterly. Once we set it up initially, we only need to make occasional updates if necessary."
"I believe in the ability to connect to multiple data sources, as well as the ease of use to transform data and output data in a variety of formats."
"The solution is user-friendly."
"I have been using Alteryx Designer only for data modeling and data structuring."
"Workflow automation, in general, is valuable."
"I like Alteryx's browser tool because you can view how your data is handled live. There are many other valuable tools like transpose and the crosstab. You can quickly pivot your data, and there are connections throughout the database. It's so easy to create a connection. If you connect to sign apps or a more complex database, the tool contains all the tools you need."
"The drag-and-drop functionality makes it easy for business users."

Cons

"Alteryx needs to improve its web governance. The gallery you use to filter the data is something else that could use some work. For instance, if you have a report connected to a database and want to filter a specific user, you should be able to suggest a specific region or a particular year. I know that the Alteryx isn't designed for data governance, but that would be great to think about."
"For smaller clients with ten to 15 employees, Alteryx can be expensive."
"It is challenging to view the data using Alteryx Designer."
"The actual usage part of it needs to be explained more. It's too vague right now."
"Alteryx's data science and machine learning capabilities are where it loses out to DataIQ."
"Alteryx Designer's cost should be improved."
"It would be simpler if they provided a component where you could simply enter some parameters and see the results."
"Alteryx could move faster to create a cloud equivalent of the desktop version of Designer."
"The memory processing needs to be improved because when you deal with a large amount of data, the interface tends to hang a little bit."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution is expensive. It has license fees, which are renewable every year."
"It is too expensive for our country. We are a small country, so it is too difficult to sell this solution. With Alteryx Designer, if you want to automate the data and run the flows, you have to pay more money. We were trying to automate the flows, and we found out that people have to pay 600 more for this feature, which makes it even more expensive. We are a partner for Tableau, and we are working with Tableau Prep, which is like a mini Alteryx. In Tableau Prep, you can drag and drop and make new connections with the different data sources. You can make all the connections. You can also publish a source. You don't have to pay more money with Tableau. You pay like $5 per user per month to access it."
"Alteryx Designer is an expensive solution."
"Each license is something like $4,000."
"I rate the price of Alteryx Designer as a five on a scale of one to ten, where one is extremely expensive, and ten is a highly cheap product."
"Alteryx Designer is a very expensive solution."
"I rate the product's pricing a two to three out of ten."
"The pricing is bit expensive."
"The open-source version is free to use, although it has a limitation of two-million records."

Questions from the Community

What do you like most about Alteryx Designer?

What is your experience regarding pricing and costs for Alteryx Designer?
It's cheaper than Palantir, but even Alteryx is too much for small clients. It is expensive, considering the server capabilities.
What needs improvement with Alteryx Designer?
For smaller clients with ten to 15 employees, Alteryx can be expensive. The server capabilities are costly too. The technical support could also improve by being quicker in response times.
