Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It is a good investment for features.""Being able to see the health of the network is most valuable. It is very strong in terms of stability and scalability. Their technical support is also good.""Network management solution that's very stable and scalable. It has a straightforward installation, fast technical support, and multiple features such as reporting, network health analysis, etc.""I really like Visual RAF. I use that a lot and then I use the up and down status reports because it'll send me emails and text messages when access points go up or down. That way, I'm aware of what's going on.""The reports are good.""The most valuable feature of Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista is the monitoring of wired and wireless equipment."

"All networks (or network equipment) are monitored through CA Spectrum.""The most valuable feature is the ability to put health checks in place not only for the infrastructure but for some of the services that are on top of the infrastructure.""The main thing is obviously notifications about alerts, getting ahead of the curve to make sure that we do not have system going down, or if it is down we get to know it earlier.""We were able to standardize the internal processes across all internal departments, resulting in almost an elimination of non-standard process flows through our organization.""The most valuable features have been the interface and the ability to do equipment management.""I have found the cross analysis feature to be the most valuable.""It's a good tool. It's simple to do the configuration.""The stability of the product is key. It never breaks, really. The stability and reliability of the Spectrum product have been top-notch."

Cons
"I would like to see a little better reporting, not reporting features, the report maker to be a little better.""Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista could improve by adding more cybersecurity features.""The location of the WiFi connection should be available to all users.""Adding a reliable and proper heatmap for the access points would make this solution better.""They should add more security features.""It needs to be infused with more artificial intelligence and machine learning."

More Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista Cons →

"From a functionality perspective, the product is not doing what it should. Also, there are some concerns about the accessibility. I would appreciate additional out-of-the-box troubleshooting scripts, like templates for addressing various issues. Currently, when troubleshooting online, I need to create my scripts. It would be beneficial if the platform could provide pre-built scripts or templates to help automate certain troubleshooting tasks.""For my use case, incident coordination was an area of improvement. The internal software engine for coordinating outages could use improvement because sometimes, we used to get false alerts for unrelated devices. They did a really good job of trying to make sure that you got one major alert and any of the subsequent devices downstream were just additions to that, but occasionally, the engine wouldn't properly catch the right things, and we used to get a flood of alerts.""Make it easier to certify devices.""The interface is not nice and needs to be improved.""If the integration is simplified or improved, it will be a unique selling point in comparison to the competition on the market.""I would like to see better scalability, and maybe, a more intuitive user interface. ""The product should provide performance management features.""It's not a great performance management tool. Its reporting capabilities are not very good at all."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The price of Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista is cheaper compared to other tools on the market. The license for this software is a one-time license only, so there is no renewal needed. It's a perpetual license."
  • "This is an open-source solution, we do not pay any money to use it."
  • "Its price is reasonable."
  • More Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "It is very pricey. With the current trend of enterprises moving towards cheaper and more modern looking solutions like ManageEngine, SevOne, ServicePilot, and Paesller."
  • "It’s a great tool, but an expensive one. Learn how to use it properly."
  • "The cost of some of these products are a little cost prohibitive, which is unfortunate. We have to find lower cost solutions for some of the things that we have to pull in. For the most part, CA has capabilities in pretty much everything that you would need. You just have to figure out where are you going to spend the most money for what you have to actually get done. You can do all these things but, which ones do you have to do? And that's hard to choose sometimes because you want to do them all."
  • "In general, the license cost will be about 30% of the total TCO for this tool (hardware/support team, OS costs, and OS management)."
  • "The product, support, and maintenance are all expensive, which is another reason that we are switching to another solution."
  • "The price is very high."
  • "The price of the solution is reasonable."
  • "Currently, a perpetual license but some services are moving to a subscription"
