I like the capabilities for scanning the spectrums in portions instead of filling the whole screen
Wireless scanning, mapping, and troubleshooting. Spectrum XT continues to help with interference issues in the factory environment. Having multiple systems factory/IR/RF/Microwave and LMR is challenging to keep everything working together I've been able to diagnose trouble areas in the factory…

Monitoring has become centralized and management now sees real‑time health of key network assets
The time investment required is significant, not because of difficulty but because of the need for free time to invest in it. We need to get the knowledge. We know there are many options, but we took an external vendor to install and make the customization. If we want to make others changes without paying for customization, we need to learn it deeply by ourselves. The tutorials are very complicated. They could work on that area. The tutorial part could be more simplified. I know there are many explanations, and you can get help or documents in one click on the current page in the product, but it is not very clear. If you want to do something new that you did not see from the vendor in the installation, it is not very simple. The documents are good for people that know how to operate the product well, but for new users, it is not simple.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I can determine precise placement of APs to satisfy customers’ needs for data, voice, or location."
"If you're having multiple issues, I'd recommend this to people, and in the long run, it's worth the cost not having to wait for a vendor to make it out during an outage or intermittent time of issues."
"I think two of the products that we use in the suite are really, really, really solid."
"Everything being centrally located in one infrastructure management tool allows anyone anywhere, between the IT help desk, to Windows teams, Unix teams, or the network team to see exactly what devices are causing the issue, as well as the severity of those issues."
"It is a very stable solution."
"The stability and reliability of the Spectrum product have been top-notch."
"Root-cause analysis and modelling pinpoint the exact cause of problems, which makes life easier."
"We were able to monitor their entire network infrastructure and receive valuable alerting in a timely fashion so that we could react to any instances when there were down devices."
"This is a very powerful tool with a lot of functionality."
"It covers a lot of different types of hardware. It can do a lot and saves us time."
"Spectrum is our correlation engine and an integration point of external monitoring tools."

Cons

"Connections from the antenna to the main unit are not efficient to connect and disconnect. Also, not thought out for placement of the cable between the unit and antenna to not catch the things disconnecting it during use."
"On the version I use, there are some bugs that are probably resolved in the latest version."
"Not being able to accurately predict interference and then engineer or react accordingly does cost us money."
"What I additionally would like to see is utilization information."
"I would like to see them eliminate the Java console. The user interface for this is a Java applet that runs on your desktop, and it is very problematic for us."
"We have had some issues with the spec server and the high availability replication of data. It fails over well, but it does not come back very well; we get duplicated events."
"Currently, it's using BOXI/CABI, which is terrible as it’s unclear and I don’t like this."
"For example, let’s say, just the southwest region has 15,000 devices, and that group wants to have interface global collection; that's going to be over 300,000-400,000 interfaces, and they wanted real-time interfaces. That really bogs down the database, so we are looking at 10.1."
"The price of DX Spectrum is not competitive when compared to other solutions, such as SolarWinds. The high price has caused us to lose many deals."
"It does crash sometimes."
"The configurations are still XML-based and require a good deal of coding to setup each object for monitoring."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"DX Spectrum's pricing is neither expensive nor cheap."
"Spectrum is expensive."
"The price is good enough to expect an ideal solution. It's expensive."
"The solution's pricing could be better."
"The price of the solution is reasonable."
"It’s a great tool, but an expensive one. Learn how to use it properly."
"The cost of some of these products are a little cost prohibitive, which is unfortunate. We have to find lower cost solutions for some of the things that we have to pull in. For the most part, CA has capabilities in pretty much everything that you would need. You just have to figure out where are you going to spend the most money for what you have to actually get done. You can do all these things but, which ones do you have to do? And that's hard to choose sometimes because you want to do them all."
"Since the acquisition by Broadcom, we have not had such a good experience with licensing and pricing. Since they were bought by Broadcom, every sales contract is getting complicated. It's very complicated, and it's much more expensive than before. It's not a good pricing strategy from Broadcom."
