Good backup solution but challenges with the stability
It is recommended that people know what they are starting with. A part of our challenge was we bought and needed to implement it. So by the time we went to implement it, we were running into support issues. Also, make a market comparison to ensure that the product you choose is what you want to end up with. I would give it a six out of ten because restoring from a backup takes longer than usual. It should happen in a matter of hours, not a matter of days. We are yet to have an experience when trying to restore from Acronis that we haven't had to wait at least a couple of days for our server to be available for testing or working.

A mature backup solution, with many features, and great support
Veritas NetBackup is the first line of defense when disaster strikes. Before performing disaster recovery, we must have a good backup of our image that is also protected from ransomware. This way, we have a golden image that is resilient to ransomware attacks. We saw the benefits of Veritas NetBackup within the first three months.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature is the fact that you can archive backups quite easily and minimize the amount of space you're using."
"The most valuable feature is its ability to back up and recover our production environment from ransomware."
"Universal Restore is valuable to us."
"The most valuable feature is the fact that it backs up my systems transparently in the background, and I'm not even conscious of it."
"i use the backup solution and I use something called Disk Director, which is a related product. Together, they allow me to manage all of my storage space."
"The pricing is fine."
"The interface is easy to use. They keep on adding new features. Acronis recently added multi-platform support."
"The ability to clone backups."
"NetBackup is highly stable. We have more than 1,800 policies that run every day."
"The solution is stable."
"This is a complete solution, everything is under one console."
"The tool's information transfer and patching up is easy. The solution offers protection from ransomware which is also a valuable feature."
"It was especially useful with the appliances we use on a daily basis."
"Backup and recovery software with great stability, and can support large-scale environments."
"We believe that everything Veritas NetBackup offers, including backups, snapshots, deduplication, and replication, is valuable."
"It's a good product, it does what we want it to do."

Cons

"They can include something called a backup appliance. Although Acronis is a software-driven company, it would be good for customers to have some kind of backup appliance on top of a lightweight operating system. This will also reduce the cost. Currently, the customers have to buy the hardware in addition to the operating system, which increases the overhead in terms of procurement."
"We needed to have help from the vendor for implementation. The vendor used two personnel. We have system administrators and they do the server backups themself."
"It would be nice to have a partition that I can boot and reinstall when taking a backup image from the operating system."
"There are a lot of products out there that are a little bit stronger than Acronis where AV is concerned."
"The support takes too much time to respond to callbacks."
"They've got an agent to back up Microsoft SQL, to our Office 365, but there is not an agent to back up my SQL databases."
"If I could create a protected image backup on a computer partition that just would be just for the image backup; and only the program could access it to prevent viruses from getting into it. That would be very, very good."
"When you are using enterprise hardware and software that increases over time, there need to be better and more management features. For pure backup software, it is fine, but when it comes to managing a large infrastructure it is lacking."
"We are looking forward to testing a feature that promises to allow us to host a workload directly from the backup appliance without rehydrating any items."
"DDBoost."
"The biggest problem with NetBackup is licensing."
"I have been involved in upgrades. They have not been straightforward. Some of them have required us to make changes to our architecture and production environment."
"We are facing a challenge regarding the support for Docker and Kubernetes features. We hope for the possibility of directly backing up Kubernetes and Docker images without the necessity of taking full virtual machine backups."
"The solution could have a more clear dashboard about the license and the operation status."
"The solution could improve by having a feature to backup iSeries workloads."
"The product is not able to keep up with other competitors in the market."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing is comparable to the newest solution available on the market, Altaro."
"The pricing is significantly higher than it was last year, which is understandable since they have introduced new technology, such as transitioning from backup to cybersecurity."
"The pricing model is a little complex to find the right size for what you need. It takes a lot of hours to figure it out."
"Its price is quite friendly on the pocket. You need to pay the licensing cost upfront, and then the support charges are on an annual basis."
"The price of Acronis Backup could be reduced, it is expensive."
"I would rate the solution’s pricing an eight out of ten. The tool’s subscription is yearly."
"The price of the solution is expensive and could be reduced a little."
"The license is a perpetual license. The cost is an area for improvement."
"Veritas NetBackup's price could be a problem for small businesses."
"The solution is expensive compared to other alternatives."
"We are happy with the pricing that we have, but it's expensive."
"The licensing model for this solution is very powerful."
"The pricing, of course, can always be better."
"A better price would make this product more competitive."
"Our license is capacity-based."
"There is a license required for this solution and it is priced based upon the data used."

Hi Shashi,NetBackup is an enterprise tool and Acronis is for private/small companies (in my opinion). If you have a plan for ~150 servers then Acronis is a NO WAY for you (only if you have the time to prepare snapshots for each individual system one by one). KR, Jago

Technically NetBackup is a more reliable and comprehensive product as compare to Acronis. NetBackup has integration with all major business products like MS SQL Server, MS Exchange Server, IBM, SAP, HANNA, Share point and Active Directory. You can backup and restore full VM in NetBackup as well as BMR too for P2V. Acronis has limited features in comparison with Netbackup. Netbackup is a vast product. If you need any assistance you may drop a few lines and I will help you out.

I think it's not possible to compare "enterprise backup tools" (NetBackup) with simple "imaging tools" :)
