Good deduplication, easy to scale, and has good support
iland Secure Cloud Backup is very scalable. If you ask them for more space, they provide you with the pricing, and they make the adjustments on their end. We just recently went from 10 TB to 15 TB and they also do a great job of deduplication, because we were only using 10 TB, even though our SAN is 20TB, we were using 11 TB of it and we have some physical servers that were we are backing up.

Near-zero downtime has protected critical workloads and now simplifies hybrid cloud recovery
The best features of HPE Zerto Software are mainly very sophisticated and relevant to the current market. The data protection CDP part has real-time replication, unlike other solutions that have snapshot backups. We can set it up hourly, making it ideal for use with workloads. Another attraction is the near-zero RTO, with automated failover within minutes and one-click failover and failback. Currently, we are using a hybrid cloud solution, and HPE Zerto Software supports multi-cloud environments, making it easy to migrate between on-premises and cloud. Regarding the impact of HPE Zerto Software on our RTOs, we have near-zero RTO, meaning the system must be back online within thirty minutes if we measure the time. It is very quick to recover services. With HPE Zerto Software's near-synchronous replication, we have some CDP protection, so we typically write interceptions along with some asynchronous replication. There is almost real-time replication available.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We have not identified any issues with this solution and we are very happy with it."
"The service itself wasn't bad."
"Their technical support is very good; I have contacted them a couple of times and I have never had a bad experience with them, and they are one of the better companies as far as their support."
"They have just implemented a Backup and Restore portal that we think is very good."
"The service itself wasn't bad."
"iland is excellent as far as the interface."
"I found the very easy VPG setup, the easy recovery, and failover testing to be the most valuable features."
"Zerto is simple, fast, and reliable, and our clients like the charts we can produce and its near real time capabilities."
"The continuous data protection is great. We love it because I can see exactly how many seconds behind real-time we are, which is usually under 10 seconds. It keeps things up to date. We love the product."
"The simplicity of use is valuable. It is easy. We just click Failover and do it. It is pretty straightforward. If someone wants to do a test failover, they log in to the console and do a test failover"
"There are a lot of valuable features. The basics of what it does to replicate and recover things within minutes is awesome. It's far above anything that any of the competition has. We offer other disaster recovery software but primarily use Zerto for recovery times and the number of recovery points because of how fast and easy it is. It's so much better."
"Using Zerto, you can have your VM up and running in a matter of minutes; all you need to do is flip a switch, then you are good to go."
"Zerto's continuous data protection is unmatched. It's phenomenal. It's also very easy to use. The menus are self-explanatory. Once you understand the terminology of the product, what the VPGs (Virtual Protected Groups) are, you're able to pretty much do what you want in the product. It's very easy to use."
"The total time for replication has been reduced drastically for us and that really adds value in the long run because time equals money and resources."

Cons

"They don't support a more current version of VMware."
"I would like to see a better method of backing up Exchange in the cloud."
"They don't support a more current version of VMware."
"This product did not help our organization."
"The vendor needs to changes billing to work like every other business and stop charging people if they stop using your service."
"I would like to see a better method of backing up Exchange in the cloud."
"The main issue with Zerto is its user interface, which lacks flexibility and presents a steep learning curve."
"The onset of configuring an environment in the cloud is difficult and could be easier to do."
"With secure boot enabled, which is the case for newer systems, it is not easy to rotate passwords and we would have to reinstall the DRAs."
"I wish there was a mechanism or plug-in to do IP failover. That's the only manual thing that we would have to do."
"In newer versions, the success rate compared to older versions is quite low. I have tried to implement Zerto version ten in my environment, but for some reason, multiple errors occur, forcing me to revert to the previous version."
"Adding or changing VPGs (Virtual Protection Groups) may require restarting replication."
"The recovery processes of large datasets in the Cloud have room for improvement."
"In general, the solution is pretty good, but because it is geared toward simplicity, sometimes, when things go wrong, the answer is not very detailed so that things can be solved quickly. If things do go wrong, it does require a little bit deeper troubleshooting to resolve the issues. That's the only area where improvement could occur. There should be a little bit more details about if things go wrong, how to remedy them."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Billing practices for iLand are monthly. If you are a business and would like a yearly rate, good luck."
"iland is affordable."
"The licensing costs are approximately $12,000 annually."
"The pricing is based on virtual machines. They need to do better in regards to their tiering pricing rather than one price per VM. A lot of times we have VMs that are lower tier, such as Tier 2 or Tier 3, but we pay the same price as for Tier 1. I know they are developing this out, but it would be nice if they could provide a little better pricing in regards to their tiering protection."
"Zerto is more cost-effective than Azure."
"The pricing doesn't seem too bad for what it does."
"If you are an IT person and you think that DR is too expensive then the cloud option from Zerto is good because anyone can afford to use it, as far as getting one or two of their criticals protected."
"As far as I know, the pricing is around $1,000 per VM, but Zerto is changing the pricing model to more of an enterprise-class license. I don't know if there are any additional costs or fees."
"Zerto is not overly expensive. It's worth what we're getting for it, but with tough times, a discount would be beneficial."
"I ballpark Zerto's pricing at about $1,000 per VM, which I find fair for what it does, but the cost of entry was tough initially due to the minimum number needed to start. I really needed to prove to the business that it was worth the investment."
"Pricing is one area where there could be some improvement. We would like to see a consumption model that would charge in a DR scenario, where you're failing over and consuming those resources, instead of a per-protected-node model. Or it could be a model based on the amount of storage space you're protecting."
