Great security feature for handling traffic at an affordable price
Pros and Cons
  • "The price is very good, and it's not very expensive."
  • "The quality of the solution's performance could be improved."

What is our primary use case?

We use this solution for public-facing for LANs, WAF and non-critical public-facing. The solution is deployed on-premises.

What is most valuable?

The security feature that handles the traffic and works on the initial traffic for the website is very valuable.

What needs improvement?

The quality of the solution's performance could be improved. For example, the solution's performance is high because of CPU usage when the application is in refresh mode for more than 30 seconds. Additionally, a DNS feature could be included in the next release. For example, to repair DNS, Barracuda Load Balancer ADC can resolve the address directly, so there will be no need to go to the internal DNS. We can use Barracuda Load Balancer ADC for handling the DNS queries.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using this solution for ten years and currently use version 5.14.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is not scalable. For example, if you want to make upgrades, you must upgrade the entire solution. Currently, 35 people are using this solution.

How are customer service and support?

We have had a good experience with customer service and support.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward and deployment took one day.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price of the solution is reasonable. It costs approximately 200 million. So the price is very good, and it's not very expensive, because it's just basic WAF, but the Load Balancer is good.

What other advice do I have?

I rate this solution an eight out of ten. The service is good, and the price is affordable, but its performance could be improved.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Cost-effective but lacking features and integration
Pros and Cons
  • "Barracuda's technical support is good - whenever we have an issue, they immediately connect and resolve it."
  • "Load Balancer ADC is competitively priced, but it's not feature-rich, and its technology is not that advanced."

What is our primary use case?

I mainly use Load Balancer ADC as a WAF and a load balancer.

What needs improvement?

Load Balancer ADC could be improved by adding integration with Oracle products. In the next release, Load Balancer ADC should include form integration, a load balancer with Oracle, and URL rewriting.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using Barracuda Load Balancer ADC for over six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Load Balancer ADC is mostly stable, though sometimes it gets overloaded due to the number of connections.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Load Balancer ADC can't scale if the usage is increased.

How are customer service and support?

Barracuda's technical support is good - whenever we have an issue, they immediately connect and resolve it.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is very easy, and I would rate the setup process as three out of five.

What about the implementation team?

Initially, we implemented using a system integrator, then later, we did it in-house.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Load Balancer ADC is cost-effective and is about half the price of F5. A license for 1,000 users costs around 200,000 RIYALS. I would rate Load Balancer ADC's pricing as three out of five.

What other advice do I have?

Load Balancer ADC is competitively priced, but it's not feature-rich, and its technology is not that advanced. If you have a good cash flow, I recommend using F5 instead. I would rate Load Balancer ADC six out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
