What is our primary use case?
We are using
Nutanix Kubernetes Engine NKE in our organization. It is implemented on Cisco
M7 Series hardware with a three-node cluster. Nutanix is integrated with
Cisco Intersight through an API engine and Prism Central. Once deployed, we use the Nutanix GUI for patching, VM creation, and VM management.
What is most valuable?
Nutanix Kubernetes Engine NKE offers easy and fast deployment, management, stability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. The resource allocation is very simple. If we need to expand the memory, storage space, or processor core, it is very easy to manage through our central control. These features are what stand out the most.
What needs improvement?
Nutanix has limitations compared to VMware, particularly in testing and industry tie-ups with different OEMs. Deploying virtual machines, especially for industrial automation, can be challenging due to compatibility issues. There's a need for better certification and integration with existing infrastructures and industry-specific applications.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using Nutanix Kubernetes Engine NKE for almost one year.
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
Deployment can be managed by one person if they are properly trained and have done necessary homework beforehand. Nutanix offers deployment on different hardware, and the process varies depending on whether it is on Nutanix's own hardware, HP, or Cisco. However, it is generally easy to deploy once familiar with the process.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Scalability is available, but it requires purchasing and adding more hardware components.
How are customer service and support?
Nutanix's support is really good. In my experience, they offer great support after-sale and even during deployment challenges. They are willing to come on
Zoom or remote sessions, which has been a fantastic experience for us.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I previously used ManageEngine but moved to another tool. We are currently using Nutanix and VMware Nutanix, which includes hypervisor and hyper-converged infrastructure.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup with Nutanix Kubernetes Engine NKE is straightforward. One person can manage the installation process if they are experienced and have done their homework. The setup process changes based on the OEM hardware used, such as HP, Cisco, or Nutanix's hardware.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
On the pricing side, Nutanix has multiple versions - basic, premium, and advanced - which can be chosen based on the requirement. This flexibility makes Nutanix a cost-effective option compared to VMware, which often mandates higher-tier versions regardless of customer needs.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Alternatives to Nutanix include Proxmox and
Red Hat OpenShift, which are open-source platforms. However, they lack the support that Nutanix provides.
What other advice do I have?
Overall, I rate Nutanix Kubernetes Engine NKE as six to seven out of ten. I believe there is room for improvement, especially in terms of vendor certifications and industry integrations. However, I find Nutanix to be generally reliable and cost-effective.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises
