Even though this product is made by one of the best known cloud providers, it is also compatible with an extensive list of data stores, including:

  • Third-party JDBC-accessible databases

  • MongoDB and Amazon DocumentDB

  • Amazon DynamoDB

  • Amazon Relational Database Service

  • Amazon S3

  • Amazon Kinesis Data Streams

  • Apache Kafka

as well as a variety of data targets:

  • Third-party JDBC-accessible databases

  • MongoDB and Amazon DocumentDB

  • Amazon Relational Database Service

  • Amazon S3

You can use AWS Glue across many stores and targets; this product is very flexible and offers not only many features, but also a wide variety of choices for the organizations using it.

AWS Glue is compatible with other data stores and data targets; however, it does work best with Amazon's native products. I do not intend to say that the product is limited - it works fine with third parties. But it was made to be compatible with AWS products and this gives it a very big advantage against other cloud data integration tools that are compatible with Amazon databases or other solutions. Speaking from the experience of someone who has been using AWS with its native products as well as with those from other vendors, it is clear that Amazon knows the needs of its services and users, and creates complimentary products for them. That is why I would advise all AWS users to use AWS Glue for cloud data integration and not any other tools.

Of course not, many other vendors can be integrated. AWS Glue is compatible with many other databases, including Amazon Aurora, MariaDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, and Microsoft SQL Server. It also works with Amazon Redshift, Amazon DynamoDB, and Amazon S3. You just have to determine what is suitable for the company's strategy and internal capabilities.
