Easy to use with good availability and reliability
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution is stable and reliable."
  • "We'd like to see more integration with other vendors."

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution for accessing services in our infrastructure, and also, since it's a remote service solution, the desktop infrastructure.

How has it helped my organization?

I use the solution as a necessity in order to connect to some servers or to some desktop infrastructure.

What is most valuable?

The availability is very good.

It's easy to use. New users especially find it very simple. You just connect and go.

The solution is stable and reliable.

You can combine the Remote Desktop Services with Citrix in some form, however, not with all of the features of both. It depends on the situation.

What needs improvement?

We'd like to see more integration with other vendors.

The solution could offer better, easier scalability.

Technical support response times could be better.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've been using the solution for more than ten years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable and the performance is good. It's reliable. I haven't had issues with it. There are no bugs or glitches.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scalability maybe should be improved. I'm not sure, with the latest version, how scalable it is. We had issues a few years ago and I worked closely with the guys that implemented them. I know that there were better products in the market on the side of scalability. It could scale a lot easier or faster.

Right now, we have about 100 people on-premises using the solution. We are a small firm.

How are customer service and support?

I don't have much experience with Microsoft services or support.

As far as I've seen, they are there. However, they are kind of slow. That said, it's not something we can generalize and say, "Well, this is Microsoft." In our experience, they are okay.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We use Vendor Desktop Infrastructure. We still use Citrix and we used VMware Horizon as well.

How was the initial setup?

I wasn't a part of the initial setup and, therefore, can't speak to the process.

That said, I do not recall the team having any major issues.

We have a team of two engineers that can handle deployment and maintenance tasks. It's good to have a few people available in case someone goes on holidays or has a day off, et cetera.

What about the implementation team?

Our team handled the implementation in-house.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I'm not aware of the exact costs of licensing. You might have to budget a bit for maintenance, however, it's very minimal.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We test a lot of solutions as we use a lot of different products with clients. We must remain sharp, so we spend some time looking into many options to see what would work best for each customer.

If it's something new appears in the market, we will install it in order to see if it's okay to recommend to our customers.

What other advice do I have?

We are a Microsft partner. Microsoft product is used in over 90% of the corporate environment here.

This solution is a technology implemented in our company. My position is in the IT department; I also sometimes help troubleshoot.

We tend to use the latest version. We are using both cloud and on-premises deployments.

I'd rate the solution eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Private Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Microsoft Azure

Secure, simple implementation, and efficient
Pros and Cons
  • "Citrix Workspace can present desktop applications with ease, in an efficient and secure manner. The performance is good, it is a great piece of software."
  • "Citrix Workspace can improve by being more secure, but this would apply to any solution not only Citrix Workspace."

What is our primary use case?

Citrix Workspace can be deployed in the cloud and on-premise.

What is most valuable?

Citrix Workspace can present desktop applications with ease, in an efficient and secure manner. The performance is good, it is a great piece of software.

What needs improvement?

Citrix Workspace can improve by being more secure, but this would apply to any solution not only Citrix Workspace.

There are times when the Citrix client is updated with a poor release. The update can effectively knock out aspects that were working previously. You can go one step forward, but two steps back. They will go through a period of having some very good software releases and then they will stop completely. It will take a couple more releases to get back everything that was negatively impacted.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used Citrix Workspace within the last 12 months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Citrix Workspace is scalable.

How are customer service and support?

I have not had to contact the support from Citrix Workspace.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward and simple.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The licensing of Citrix Workspace is worth it. However, it is expensive. Citrix is probably more competitive now than VMware, but it is still a costly solution.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I have evaluated VMware.

What other advice do I have?

My advice to others is the initial installation is always straightforward, it's the second phase that you need a lot of good assistance or a lot of assistance to get it working right or working well. If you go into it thinking you can learn as you go, it's not that kind of solution. It is similar to VMware. The whole element about it is that installing the solution is easy and getting things up and running is not a problem, but getting it to work well in the environment requires a lot of expertise and you need to pay the money to get that to work well.

I rate Citrix Workspace a ten out of ten.
