Comprehensive detection has strengthened real-time protection and streamlined investigations
My experience with detection and response capabilities for Microsoft-centric environments has been positive. While API integration can be challenging with some third-party tools, Microsoft's built-in features facilitate seamless communication. I have found it relatively easy to triage and integrate Microsoft systems with Rapid7 MDR. In terms of digital forensics and incident response included in the MDR service, my experience is that it is not very robust. We lack a dedicated forensic team, which is essential for thorough investigation. Rapid7 has introduced honeypots, which is an encouraging feature, but it is not a comprehensive solution such as those offered by competitors, such as Palo Alto's Unit 42. Apart from forensics, I believe Rapid7 MDR should introduce more forensic services. Another area to improve is the active platform's handling of on-premises tools versus cloud-based tools. We prefer on-premises options for data security, and we find limitations in features compared to cloud-based tools, concerning data access and privacy controls.

Customers have found quick incident response and proactive security management through effective threat detection
Secureworks Taegis Managed XDR MDR is a great product that has not posed any challenges from my perspective. I am extremely happy with the quick response from the Secureworks team. After the Sophos merger, I look forward to seeing a better and more enhanced version of the product. The team does a phenomenal job with automatic maintenance.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Instead of dedicating resources for around-the-clock monitoring, Rapid7 MDR acts as an extension of our security team, saving man-hours each month while improving detection and response capabilities."
"The main benefits that Rapid7 MDR provides for me as an end-user are the security and that they are available 24 hours a day, always."
"From my perspective, Rapid7 MDR is a really good product that is easy to implement and use."
"The enrichment that Rapid7 MDR generates for the client is greater than with other tools, and this has had a big impact."
"All stakeholders claim that Rapid7 MDR is very effective at identifying threats in today's AI era."
"We've filled in crucial gaps we had with our previous solution. This was a key factor in choosing Rapid7 during the selection process. The ROI is already starting to show, too."
"Once we introduced Rapid7 MDR along with their vulnerability assessment tool, IVM, we transitioned from using Qualys and Tenable, which are top-tier tools in the market, because the management tool from Rapid7 allows us to access a variety of vulnerabilities in real time to fix them effectively."
"The benefits that came with Rapid7 MDR is the analysis we are getting now, which is quite useful."
"The pricing is flexible."
"The solution definitely made us way more aware of the possibilities out there."
"Secureworks Taegis Managed XDR MDR is a great product that has not posed any challenges from my perspective."
"Securworks' threat intel seems pretty decent, and they integrate with several solutions we have, such as Azure AD, so all our Microsoft 365 stuff is covered."
"The solution is great for managing alerts and dealing with them as they arise."
"Solved a fundamental problem that lets us all sleep well at night!"
"There are some patent pending detectors within the platform that provides a lot of value."
"We don't have a full SOC, so it's helpful to have them sifting through our alerts and only bringing actionable items to us."

Cons

"Rapid7 MDR is currently weak in AI solutions and intelligence, which is concerning."
"However, I think the best area for improvement is pricing."
"There are potential improvements in reports and dashboards."
"We cannot allow it to go outside because we do not have that level of trust at the moment."
"There are still a couple of areas where Rapid7 MDR can be improved. The visibility of the dashboard should be improved, and faster threat detection can also be enhanced."
"Evaluating the customer service and technical support teams of Rapid7 MDR, I would rate them a six out of ten."
"The price of Rapid7 MDR could definitely be lower, as these are expensive systems, especially if you have the MDR."
"The product should provide full transparency in security operations."
"The deployment could definitely be improved."
"Dell Secureworks could improve its integration with other third-party solutions."
"Secureworks Taegis ManagedXDR's query language and stability need improvement."
"It would be nice if the solution were a little more affordable."
"We did a PoC of their next-gen antivirus product, but it wasn't ready yet. It was underdeveloped and caused a lot of issues. We'd like to move away from Carbon Black, but they said that it's probably still not to a point where we'd be happy with it. Carbon Black and RedCloak seem to work fine for us."
"GUI for resolving tickets is terrible. Non-intuitive, offering a dizzying array of options, often none of which made sense even for common problems."
"I would rate the scalability at 50%. We have been having a problem as we are shifting from a previous appliance to a virtual machine."
"Tamper-proofing or tamper protection is still pending in Secureworks. Tamper protection will make it more secure. If I'm an admin of a device, I can uninstall an agent without the knowledge of the security or Secureworks admin. If someone gets hold of one endpoint with admin credentials, he can remove anything, and an organization will lose visibility. They need to work on providing more visibility across endpoints. A couple of times it has happened that the cloak agent is there, but it did not get activated, or there were some issues. The machine was restarted, but the cloak agent didn't run. In such cases, you have to troubleshoot. It is a big issue if a cyber attack is happening, and your machine is rebooted, but the events are not captured."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The product is not overly priced."
"It is expensive but there is no better product than this."
"The price is kind of on par. The licensing was comparable to other solutions. It's not particularly high or low."
"The pricing of Dell Secureworks is very reasonable."
"Initially, the cost was going to be something around $160 or $170. And eventually, I think they brought it down to $110 and they also threw in some endpoint protection platforms."
"The pricing for this solution is reasonable. One agent costs approximately 270 dirhams/70 USD for one year. There is a reduction in cost per licence as the number of licences used increases."
"Secureworks Taegis ManagedXDR is very expensive and could be more cost-effective."
"The Red Cloak agent is free."
