Unified storage has boosted recurring revenue and expanded data protection for diverse clients
In my experience, the best features QNAP NAS Storage offers are its focus on network-attached storage and its full ecosystem with applications. We can use it as an NVR without needing another NVR for a company. We can use the storage device as an NVR in QNAP NAS Storage. QNAP NAS Storage provides universal drivers, so not only QNAP's hard disks and SSDs can be used, but also universal brand hard disks and SSDs. QNAP NAS Storage also has myQNAPcloud storage for backup, hybrid backup solution, and Boxafe application, offering several applications to create a full solution ecosystem according to organizational requirements. The feature that stands out as most valuable to my customers is Boxafe because most organizations use Google and Microsoft, so they need to back up their Google and Microsoft data. We provide them Boxafe as a solution with QNAP NAS Storage, along with hybrid backup. I want to emphasize that we can use QNAP NAS Storage for every kind of industry, such as video editing, video creation, photography, healthcare, industrial, and enterprise IT. It provides backup and data protection, centralized management, and centralized access. It is very useful for every industry, so we give solutions according to their requirements, gathering different kinds of requirements from customers to provide suitable network-attached storage based on performance, hard disk capacity, and storage capacity. Often, customers request expansion units when storage capacity exceeds requirements, network expansion cards for network expansion, and parts from QNAP NAS Storage's brand.

UI has simplified pixel data insights and cost savings while hardware lifecycle still needs work
There is an option I would like to see. Instead of installing a separate Grafana server to get the telemetry data, why can we not set up the same capability in the UI itself? Then we could choose the retention period of the log and get everything inside the Qumulo dashboard itself, rather than installing a separate Grafana server, because we need to maintain a separate server to collect these metrics. There is one more needed improvement I noticed. If you compare Qumulo to Dell Isilon as a vendor, a patch update with Dell Isilon covers the hardware as well. In Qumulo, however, you have to maintain the hardware lifecycle and the software separately. This means every time you update your server, you have to update two entities: one is the hardware and the other is Qumulo. So it might be quite challenging. A great deal of time is also involved for an engineer to do both of these things, so I do not think Qumulo can directly integrate with the hardware so that we can update the Qumulo software together with the hardware patches. Right now, I do not have any other improvements needed for Qumulo that I have not mentioned yet.

Quotes from Members

Pros

"QNAP NAS Storage provides universal drivers, so not only QNAP's hard disks and SSDs can be used, but also universal brand hard disks and SSDs."
"Qumulo has positively impacted my organization by simplifying storage management while providing a single, scalable platform, reducing administrative efforts, making storage growth easier to manage, and allowing users to experience consistent performance."
"The most valuable feature is real-time analytics."
"Qumulo has positively impacted my organization with the scalability of size; we were at one petabyte and we were able to increase it to two petabytes, and increasing our storage from one to two petabytes was a smooth process and it was easy to increase size."
"The best feature I saw in Qumulo is that the UI itself is pretty easy to use."
"The ratio of total operational cost to complexity versus feature set is very good."
"The most valuable feature of Qumulo is the ability to share files and reliability."
"I rate customer support for Qumulo as excellent, giving it a 10 for its top-tier service in response, resolution, and overall attention to customer needs."
"Overall, it is a solid tool that works very well on-premises and in cloud environments."

Cons

"I think QNAP NAS Storage can improve by focusing more on their hard disks, as hard disk prices have increased in the industry."
"The solution could improve availability and improve data protection or data services such as compression of deduplication. In a future release, we'd like to have more cloud API integrations."
"I have not seen a concrete return on investment with Qumulo, as the project scope does not allow me to assess metrics such as money or time saved."
"Qumulo should continue to expand automation and orchestration capabilities."
"The key differences, both pros and cons of Qumulo in comparison to other technologies are that I have outlined quite a lot of pros, while the cons I can see include some challenges between the software and hardware."
"In the next release, I would like to see the ability to have more control at a terminal level of the file system."
"There is plenty of room for improvement. In the future, I would like to see non-disruptive updates."
"One aspect of Qumulo that I hoped to see improved was its software upgrade process, which did see significant progress during my usage. Initially, upgrading the software resulted in several minutes of system downtime. However, by the time I departed last summer, the downtime had reduced to mere ten seconds. Although I am unsure if Qumulo has yet achieved a completely outage-free upgrade, I simply performed the upgrades early in the morning before the marketing department began its workday, so any downtime was inconsequential."
"The main hiccup, as I mentioned, is that the hardware lifecycle patch is the most critical issue."
