Platform has strengthened attack surface visibility and vulnerability validation but needs better remediation tracking
Pentest-Tools.com could improve in a couple of areas. First, the reporting flexibility could be enhanced. Second, there should be additional automation for remediation tracking since it currently lacks automation for this, requiring me to track remediations manually using the reports. Third, deeper integration with vulnerability management workflows could be beneficial, as I should have more options for integrating the tool with other security pen testing or application scanning tools. Regarding Pentest-Tools.com's AI capabilities, I believe there should be proper boundaries managed by their team in terms of governance and security, especially when the tool provides false positive vulnerabilities. These should also be detected on the governance side and resolved within the tool rather than manually, indicating an area for improvement in governance and compliance. In terms of the accuracy and reliability of Pentest-Tools.com's AI-generated output, I feel it can provide comprehensive output and reports. However, as it is AI-generated, the pentester or user should thoroughly check and validate the output before presenting it to stakeholders or the remediation team.

Integrates security into the development process and improves team collaboration
Veracode helps organizations develop software by reducing the risk of security vulnerabilities through developer enablement and applications focused on governance. You can utilize different levels of processes to achieve better performance or a more scalable service. Since I started working with it in 2022, I’ve found it to be cost-effective as well. Overall, Veracode is a user-friendly security tool. It includes features such as Static Application Security Testing (SAST), Dynamic Application Security Testing (DAST), and Software Composition Analysis (SCA). During the development phase, we can identify vulnerabilities in the application. This process occurs in the staging environment during development. When we're ready to go to production, we conduct a final check. Essentially, this tool helps identify vulnerabilities during the code development stage, including both high-level vulnerabilities and those related to open-source software composition. We utilize specific methodologies for this purpose. Additionally, it offers a feature that allows us to set up policies based on client requirements. This means we can customize the tool to meet the specific needs of our clients, ensuring that they receive the appropriate level of security in their applications. Veracode is user-friendly as well. Compared to other tools, their scans take 15 minutes or under. If you have a large scale of libraries or data, it might take longer, but based on my personal experience, the scan usually runs within fifteen minutes. For my case study using the Veracode tool, I worked on an internal project following industry standards. We used Veracode to improve our security posture and speed up the time to market by streamlining the development process. This enhanced collaboration between developers, operations, and security teams. The automated scanning process helped identify and fix vulnerabilities earlier in the development process. We maintained compliance with regulatory requirements, avoided fines, and built customer trust by integrating security into the development process. When we conduct this scan, we receive data on a list of vulnerabilities. This information improved our communication and increased transparency, which leads to better reports about the efforts being put in. This results in a more effective and efficient collaboration process, making it user-friendly for all involved. When considering costs, if we resort to manual processes, it can be time-consuming. Therefore, we utilize automated scans to identify and fix security issues. This allows us to address vulnerabilities early in the development process, as we discussed previously. This applies both to our in-house code and third-party libraries, using Software Composition Analysis (SCA) agent-based scans. In the future, we will also implement SCA agent-based scans as a separate feature within Veracode, which can help organizations avoid the expensive and time-consuming consequences of security issues. Furthermore, we have seen an increase in compliance, helping to maintain adherence to regulatory requirements and industry standards, thereby avoiding fines and reputational damage associated with noncompliance. Additionally, by integrating security into the development process, we enhance customer trust in our organization and its products.

Quotes from Members

Pros

"If you have a lean DevOps or IT team that needs robust security scanning and professional reporting for compliance or vulnerability management without spending weeks learning CLI security tools or paying exorbitant enterprise fees, Pentest-Tools.com is easily one of the best SaaS solutions available."
"Pentest-Tools.com has positively impacted my organization in two significant ways."
"The SAST and DAST modules are great."
"For our customers, they know that we go through another level of application security with our application, one our competitors don't use."
"The most valuable feature is detecting security vulnerabilities in the project."
"Veracode has a nice API that they provide to allow for custom things to be built, or automation. We actually have integrated Veracode into our software development cycle using their API. We actually are able to automatically, every time a new build of a software is completed, submit that application, kick off a scan, and we get results in a much more automated fashion."
"I contacted the solution's technical support during the automation part, and it went well, after which I never faced any issues."
"Overall, it's really good."
"The analysis of the vulnerabilities and the results are the most valuable features."
"Veracode's integration with our continuous integration solution is what I've found to be the most valuable feature. It is easy to connect the two and to run scans in an automated way without needing as much manual intervention."

Cons

"Pentest-Tools.com could improve in a couple of areas. First, the reporting flexibility could be enhanced."
"The areas of Veracode that I would want to see improved or enhanced in the future are primarily related to user interface experience."
"Once your report has been generated, you need to review the report with consultation team, especially if it is too detailed on the development side or regarding the language. Then, you need some professional help from their end to help you understand whatever has been identified. Scheduling consultation takes a longer time. So, if you are running multiple reports at the same time, then you need to schedule a multiple consultation times with one of their developers. There are few developers on their end who work can work with your developers, and their schedules are very tight."
"We have some constraints interacting with Veracode self-support. I'm not talking about their technical support. I'm talking about self-support. We sometimes have a hard time communicating with them."
"Improving sorting through findings reports to filter by only what is critically relevant will help developers focus on issues."
"When Veracode updates the pool of tests and security checks, it could be a little more transparent about what it is releasing. It's not clear what it's adding. They do thousands of checks, and when they add more, there aren't many details about what the new tests are doing."
"I would like to see more technical support for some of the connectors, some more detailed diagrams or run-books on how to install some of the stuff; more hand-holding in the sense of understanding our environment."
"It should include more informational, low level, vulnerability summaries and groupings. Large related groups of low level vulnerabilities may amount to a design flaw or another avenue for attack."
"It's very expensive for a small organization."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"It's worth the value"
"I don't have firsthand knowledge of Veracode pricing, but based on client feedback, it seems to be expensive with additional fees for certain features."
"The licensing cost for Veracode is fair."
"The pricing is fair. You get a lot out of the product."
"I know that Veracode is a semi-pricey solution. If you are serious about security, I would recommend that you use an open-source option to learn how the scanning process works and then look into Veracode if you want to really step up your game and have an all-in-one solution."
"Veracode's pricing is competitive."
"Aside from the standard licensing fees, we also have to pay for a competent Success Manager."
"The pricing for Veracode is high, making it difficult for beginners to afford."
