We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most valuable features of PagerDuty are customization, access, policies, and different rules regarding the path of escalation. Additionally, it's easy to use and create overrides. For example, if you all are on a call for one week each, but somebody wants to go on PTO, the team needs to swap shifts in PagerDuty. This is easy to do by creating overrides to switch up the set schedules. It's very user-friendly in that aspect. It works well for monitoring and alerting.""The most valuable feature is definitely the flexibility of the schedule. The mobile app is quite also good for what we do: for receiving alerts, acknowledging, assigning, adding new responders. It has rich features for our needs.""PagerDuty's best features are the dedicated application that allows me to reach my engineers immediately and the ability to directly assign specific tasks to individuals and have them report back.""The most valuable feature is the phone app that allows us to send notifications without the additional fees when sending by SMS or phone calls.""It reduces the amount of white noise. If something comes through, then it will alert somebody. However, if it's a bit of white noise that comes through at night, then it gets dealt with the next day. Everything is visible to everybody. It's not just a single person getting an SMS, then going, "Oh, I'm not going to worry about that." The visibility to everybody on the team is one of the great things about it because it reduces the white noise.""The initial setup is straightforward.""The alerts are immediate in this solution, which allows us to respond to errors quickly.""The product has valuable on-call scheduling, escalation, and incident workflow management features."

"Its interconnectivity with the cloud platforms, such as Azure and AWS, was valuable.""The cloud is very fast.""Its monitoring is completely automated.""Dashboards and alerting are the most valuable features. The dashboards let us see how the system looks in terms of anomalies, and the alerts trigger us to go and look at what possible problems are happening.""The most valuable feature of Splunk Cloud Platform is its flexibility and readiness because it's already prebuilt, and everything is click-to-go.""As compared to other tools, it is very easy. It is very easy to learn. It also integrates well.""Splunk Cloud Platform's most valuable features are enterprise security and ticketing integration.""The initial setup was straightforward."

Cons
"The solution does not code all alerts correctly so sometimes you get false positives or multiple alerts for the same issue.""It’s quite hard to reach the support team.""I am not a direct end user of PagerDuty. It's hard to consider its shortcomings in that sense.""I would like the UI to be more intuitive. I would like to be able to group or color-code the discoveries. When you create a system, you have a listing of all the different configurations. You can list them by teams, but some additional color coding would be helpful. I would break it down by incident controls. In other words, it should be broken down it into response teams and engineering divisions.""I would like to see more content in the notification messages; although, that might be a configuration on our end.""PagerDuty's webhooks need some improvement.""The On-Call Teams feature could be better in terms of levels of conditions related to which team or member should get the responsibility of handling a matter or incident.""PagerDuty can improve the integration with Terraform."

More PagerDuty Operations Cloud Cons →

"There can be more modules and more integration with other areas in the cloud and on-prem. I am not sure whether it includes network devices and things like that.""The on-premises version of Splunk includes all the integrations, while the Cloud platform lacks certain integrations and is limited in terms of the number of supported apps.""The training models can only be accessed for 30 days, even if it is paid training.""In the case of knowledge objects, even a Splunk admin does not have access to delete them. If we want to remove a knowledge object, we need to contact Splunk support and raise a case. After that, they delete it. They should give us access to delete knowledge objects.""The Splunk Cloud Platform dashboard could benefit from some improvements.""Splunk should offer various options for real-time monitoring.""Customization could be simplified.""The only thing I would say is an issue is the cost. It matches other products. The costs can be justified for the value that we gain. The entire threat analysis stack should come in a bundle. If the cost was matchable with other products I think Splunk would pick up in the market."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Licensing costs are around $700 a month, and the only additional costs, are phone costs in some instances."
  • "The cost is quite high. But if you want to get a full-featured application and you have a big team..."
  • "If you add more people, then you have to pay more, which is always a thing with the SaaS solutions."
  • "If we wanted phone calls or additional SMSs, we would have to pitch up for those. They give us so many per month per user, then we have to pay extra if it goes over that."
  • "They're very good in pricing compared to the competitors in the area. I would rate them a five out of five in terms of pricing."
  • "The solution is paid on a monthly basis and represents about 1% of the platform's budget."
  • "There is a license needed to use PagerDuty."
  • "PagerDuty has monthly and yearly licenses available, the costs of which can get quite high if you have a large number of users."
  • More PagerDuty Operations Cloud Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "The licensing is based on the amount of data that we send to the cloud on a daily basis."
  • "The price is something that people complain about."
  • "The licensing costs depend on the state of your environment and the fees are paid on a monthly basis."
  • "The pricing model makes this an expensive solution."
  • "There are additional features that you would need to purchase depending on your use case."
  • "The cost of using Splunk Cloud Platform is high, but the value it provides is worth the investment."
  • "I am familiar with the pricing and licensing model a little bit. I am not sure about the particulars of the actual price that we have, but I do like the idea of going towards a more CPU-based approach rather than the ingest approach because it allows us the ability to ingest more data if we need it."
  • "It is a touchy subject because we are locked into it. That goes back to the rehydrating data. We cannot have the retention that we want to store for legal and compliance purposes because that is seven years' worth of data for some of the indexes, so we ship them off into S3 buckets and install them there, at which point they are invisible to Splunk, so we have to rehydrate them, but we cannot rehydrate those pockets into Splunk Cloud. We have to rehydrate them into a self-hosted version of Splunk, which can take days to set up and get going. I would not call Splunk's licensing and pricing predatory, but they have made it very difficult to maintain the independence of your own data."

PeerSpot reviewer Pramodh M., DevSecOps Consultant at a tech services company, comments, “The inbound integrations that PagerDuty provides with most of the DevOps tools are valuable. There is a flexible and easy way of integrating with monitoring tools. It allows us to configure the integration with APIs and plugins as well.”

It makes it easy to access an agent via mobile phone."

A Principal Architect at an energy/utilities company states, “The most important feature that is used is call scheduling. We are also able to actually call IT folks in the case of an emergency.”
