Manages extensive utility billing applications efficiently with trusted performance and robust support
Currently, I have a very good experience with Oracle Multitenant. The pluggable database is easy to handle and manage, sharing resources efficiently. However, Oracle license pricing is an issue due to its high cost. Our organization is compelled to reduce CPU usage by seventy CPUs because the Oracle license cost depends on it.

Helps monitor queries and identify which indexes need to be created in the databases
SQL Server is very simple due to its GUI, which is available for users. It allows for modifications and has execution plans available, along with options such as activity monitoring. This helps monitor queries and identify which indexes need to be created in the databases, tables, or columns to improve performance.

Harnessing advanced parallelism for top performance while embracing cloud trends
Teradata is primarily used for data warehousing across all customers. My clients have built-in applications that use Teradata, and their use varies from customer to customer, depending on the industry and database size. The primary function is as an OLAP analytical ecosystem Scalability is…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I would rate the scalability a ten out of ten. Our clients are mostly medium and enterprise businesses."
"You can scale the solution as needed."
"It's easy to use and works great."
"The most valuable features are the speed and ease of use."
"Our primary use of Oracle includes writing queries for retrieving data for customers without worrying about the customer ID, user ID, as it is automatically connected to each query."
"Maintaining databases is a valuable feature for us."
"Multitenant has a container database with many pluggable databases."
"The database becomes pluggable. Inside this container is called a pluggable database and each application contains this pluggable database inside Multitenant. We can then share resources like control files, memory, etc. This lets you stop and start each application without impacting the others. This resource sharing is the most valuable feature"
"I have contacted technical support, and overall my experience with technical support was okay."
"I like that the new version has a memory-optimized table to improve the performance."
"The performance is reliable."
"The performance of SQL Server is perfect."
"Microsoft SQL Server is one of the better database administration software packages out there. It runs primarily on Windows Server platforms, but it can also run on Linux platforms."
"We are using the net for our environment. We're using the ADF Azure data factory for our analysis services, and it is pretty good."
"Scalability, cluster ability, ease of use, ease of implementation — these are all great."
"One of the things I most like about SQL Server is the log shipping piece. This is a great feature."
"Cuts time to process huge amounts of data with efficient analytical queries."
"I found all parts --loading, transformation, processing & querying work in parallel, and end-to-end-- to be valuable."
"Viewpoint, the detailed query logs and performance statistics are valuable features."
"The most valuable features are the large volume of data and the structuring of the data to optimize it and get very optimal data warehouse solutions for customers."
"When it comes to integration, tools like Informatica seamlessly connect with Teradata. We ensure the Teradata database is configured correctly in Informatica, including the proper hostname and properties for the load process. We didn't find any major complexity or issues with integration."
"It's stable and reliable."
"It has reduced a lot of reworking on maintaining indexes, partitions, etc."
"Things have started moving faster in my company, such as data retrieval happens more quickly."

Cons

"This solution is a bit complicated when collecting from containers - that feature should be a bit better."
"It would be beneficial to include this solution with Oracle Enterprise, but Oracle charges additional fees for it."
"That said, Oracle in general doesn't invest in their UI for any of their applications. If we're talking about the dashboard or other user experience, there is room for improvement. I'm talking about on premises. The cloud version has started to improve."
"There is room for improvement in customer service and support."
"Oracle license pricing is an issue due to its high cost. Our organization is compelled to reduce CPU usage by seventy CPUs because the Oracle license cost depends on it."
"The user interface for this solution can be made better."
"From the scope of improvement, I would say that people are adopting new query options. Certain databases like MongoDB adopt new query options so that they can just pull the data."
"It can be complicated to scale up the solution, but it's scalable."
"It would be great if we were able to run it on multiple operating systems and not only stick with Windows."
"I do not think SQL Server is suited for a typical database warehouse environment. However, people do use SQL Server for data warehouse environments but the best use case is for very small databases. If somebody wants to store more than 10 TB of data querying then the performance really degrades. The performance should be improved in the future to allow more scalability."
"Primarily, the data replication and the backup areas can be improved. It should have data replication capabilities and uptime capabilities."
"They could improve by adding the SQL format."
"The treatment of database storage could be improved."
"Database support could be improved."
"There should be more tools and documentation for tuning the performance of Microsoft SQL Server. It would be nice to have more tools for tuning because currently, all the tuning that we have to do with our databases is almost manual. We have to read a bunch of knowledge base articles, and this information should be better documented. Its free text search should also be improved. It is quite important for us. Currently, we're developing our own free text search because of the lacking flexibility in Microsoft SQL Server. Therefore, we're kind of using elastic search and making different implementations in order to reach our targets. Using just the native free text search of Microsoft SQL Server is not enough for us. It should have more flexible features as compared to the current version."
"The solution could improve by being more user-friendly."
"Data ingestion is done via external utilities and not by the query language itself. It would be more convenient to have that functionality within its SQL dialect."
"I think the UI is not there yet. It could be improved by being more user-friendly."
"The increasing volumes of data demand more and more performance."
"Teradata hardly supports unstructured data or semi-structured data"
"Teradata's UI could be more user-friendly."
"The solution needs improvement in its stability, support and pricing."
"Sometimes the large injestion takes days to load data, and some of our stored procedures take two to three days."
"Limited interest and success in some areas make us hesitate about upgrading."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"This solution is a little bit pricey."
"For me, I will go with it if I have the budget. Some features are nicer than before, but at the end of the day, you always have a limited budget. I prefer to upgrade and get a specific hardware when possible. At the end, you will have to make a compromise. You will not get everything you would have liked to have."
"The price is worth the quality."
"Their options for concurrency and locking are good, as well as their prices."
"On a scale of one to ten, when one is cheap and ten is an expensive solution, I rate the product price as seven. The product is expensive."
"If you are looking for a small setup and do not want an open-source solution or invest too much money in your database then SQL Server is a very good choice."
"The areas that need improvement are with regards to the commercial aspect of the solution, the licensing cost could be reduced in order to help customers to adopt it."
"Historically, SQL Server has been much more affordable than Oracle, which is overpriced."
"My advice is quite straightforward. If you know the number of users who really and truly need access to the Server then it is a no-brainer. If you do not know, then get the basic package and minimum licenses and start from there. Needless to say, users can develop/use data structures outside and then deploy onto the Server."
"This is a downside of enterprise Microsoft products."
"There is a license to use this solution. However, the model is not easy to understand. There is a guide you have to read about all the information on how it works. If you read this documentation, you can understand how it works. We are paying for our SQL Servers by CPU cores with an enterprise license."
"Teradata is currently making improvements in this area."
"The solution requires a license."
"When looking into implementing this product, pricing is the main issue followed by technical expertise."
"Teradata is expensive but gives value for money, especially if you don't want to move your data to the cloud."
"The tool costs about 30,000 euros a month, while Azure Synapse SQL only costs 10,000."
"The cost is significantly high."
"We had a lot of parties involved when purchasing from the AWS Marketplace. They are very flexible and aggressive in trying to close the deal. They are good at what they have to offer and listening to the customer. It's a two-way street."
"I would advise others to look into migration and setup as a fixed price and incorporate a SaaS option for other Teradata services."
