Identity workflows have delivered strong governance but remain complex to install and customize
I would describe the installation of Oracle Identity Governance on-premises as quite complex. Very complex. To install the product, it took us maybe three or four days to get it up and running just to go through the installation procedures. I repeated the same exercise in 2017 because I also migrated from 11c to 12c. That was the migration in 2017 that I managed. The migration took a long time. It took two to three years to be able to literally migrate all the code that I had. So it was quite complex. To summarize it quickly, I would describe the product as complete, very powerful, and very capable. However, it is extremely complex because Oracle relies on their own framework to customize and develop and fine-tune the functionalities. It is not Java, it is not some public framework. It is Java-based more or less, but it has their own Oracle framework for development and that makes the product quite complex to harness.

Structured operations and analytics have transformed how my teams manage customers and sales
I see room for improvement regarding financial operations and FinOps. If they are not being controlled correctly, Salesforce billings can get huge. They charge for everything: license costs, storage costs, and transaction costs, and it can really end up blowing budgets if it is not controlled. Those controls should be something that is easy to manage. With Salesforce, it is pretty difficult to manage unless you are a very advanced user. Normal regular users may not be able to keep the costs in control. This ends up resulting in bill shocks where you suddenly receive a bill which you may not be expecting.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The best features in Oracle Identity Governance product include comprehensive reporting, as we can track exactly what person did what because of the auditing policies that can be enforced in it, and at what time what was done."
"We moved to this solution because of its cost."
"The user-level management has improved when you have this solution in place."
"One thing for sure, is that it is the most comprehensive solution out there in the market."
"If you have a large scale organization, then this is the right product because it gives you a lot of opportunities to do customization and custom development."
"The capability of writing a custom connector makes this product flexible enough to potentially reach all types of target systems."
"Oracle Identity Manager is a highly flexible and scalable enterprise identity management solution that is designed to administer user access privileges across a company's resources throughout the identity management life cycle, from initial on-boarding to final de-provisioning of an identity."
"It has helped in automating and reducing manual processes."
"The best features of Salesforce Platform that I appreciate are that it is very configurable and easy for both developers as well as customers to use."
"Salesforce Identity is a very user-friendly solution."
"The most valuable features are the pipeline management, being able to track the pipeline anytime, and the ability to get in touch with our high management team or board members."
"The user experience was great because it had all the features that the client needed, it was fully customized for the client, and it was very simple, making it the best solution at that time."
"The single sign-on feature of Salesforce Identity enhances our organization's security posture overall."
"The solution is very easy to understand."

Cons

"It is cumbersome to deploy; there are multiple layers in terms of trying to get it to work; and they're also limited in terms of the number of products it can integrate with."
"Initial setup is complex in compatibility between Operating System version, Database version, Fusion Middleware version and so on."
"Simplify and add more functionality to Identity Cloud Service (IDCS)."
"It's very poor, just 3/10."
"Everybody's been moving onto the cloud, and it's not a cloud-based solution."
"Licensing"
"Oracle Identity Governance is complex and heavy from an implementation perspective."
"You need full visibility because the suite of features are complex and you have to be clear on what you want to implement."
"Salesforce Identity needs more expertise in the application."
"The most wanted feature on such platforms nowadays is artificial intelligence, especially for marketing activities. This is also my area of expertise, so it would be very interesting to see AI in these platforms."
"Salesforce could make it more user-friendly and easier to implement. Currently, there's a lot of coding and technical work required. I would appreciate a more plug-and-play approach where you could set it up without needing a dedicated technical person."
"The interface should be simplified and the dashboard has a lot of options but could be improved."
"The product is slow."

"The licensing cost for Oracle Identity Governance is very high, so I'd rate it two out of five."
"The price is based on the number of users per year."
"I'd recommend Salesforce for larger products where you really need a robust CRM. It's expensive, so for smaller websites or products, it might not be the most cost-effective solution."
"On a scale of one to ten, where one is a very low price and ten is a very high price, I rate Salesforce Identity's pricing a six out of ten."
