Offers capacity to integrate with external platforms but technically difficult
There is room for improvement in the user experience in the forms. When we need to develop the forms, we don't have much customization, and I think we need more flexibility there. It's technically difficult, but it would be great to be able to develop our own code and integrate it into the platform. We could then run our own code for specific actions and requests or even develop a page or form. So, if I can ask Nintex for something, it would be a way to integrate our own code for specific actions. When it comes to integration, it could have more options for custom requests.

Future-proof and powerful with great support
Improvements include: 1) Cost of the Software. Redwood is more expensive than most of the other Automation Software available today; they could make it budget-friendly. 2) It has limited reporting features. Some basic reporting features are missing. 3) There is no option to extract data in Excel. This feature could help in finding errors in the data. 4) Integration with ServiceNow is not supported. 5) The cloud platform compatibility is not up to the mark. 6) Security standards need to be improved. 7) Handling failure is not great; the workflow stops when a job fails and human intervention is required. 8) Configuration and set-up are difficult for someone with less coding knowledge. 9) They need to provide more documentation to assist new users.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The strength of this solution lies in its connectors and the accessibility of an open API. The presence of an open API allows users to create custom connectors if necessary, provided there is access to the source API documentation. Additionally, the platform features a straightforward yet highly effective forms tool. This tool not only seamlessly integrates with the workflow functionality but also facilitates the transmission of information to the document generation tool. This comprehensive integration is particularly noteworthy when compared to alternatives such as Oracle, which tends to rely on more complex and separate logic for similar functionalities. A key strength of Nintex lies in its user-centric approach to help documentation. The materials are designed to be easily understood, avoiding complex terminology. In cases where technical terms are used, they are linked to articles for further clarification. This contrasts with platforms like Microsoft and Oracle, which may employ technical jargon without clear explanations. Nintex further supports its users through a robust online community, fostering collaboration and shared insights. Additionally, Nintex University offers online training across all applications, following a role-based structure. Unlike some other platforms, Nintex's training is thoughtfully broken down into shorter courses, focused on specific roles. This approach ensures that users can efficiently access the information they need without navigating through extensive and potentially irrelevant content, as may be the case with Oracle's training structure."
"NWC forms could be better. Also, the ability to build workflows that are not dependent on SharePoint is very desirable. The forms feature just isn’t as functional as the forms for SharePoint."
"Allows us to provide desktop/laptop and mobile solutions to our users."
"I like the feature of getting an email for a workflow error, then I do not have to go through every instance."
"K2's best feature is that it can solve complex tasks, issues, and projects with little coding."
"I think that it adds value to any organization, mainly in terms of business applications where you need workflows."
"With an extensive list of integrations with LOB data, your workflows can extend far beyond SharePoint, driving adoption of SharePoint."
"We were able to meet all of the requirements for functionality that were specified, and we did not experience challenges where we had to compromise on functionality."
"With automation in place, employees can focus on more strategic tasks that require human expertise, increasing overall productivity."
"Redwood manages all complex job workflow processes."
"There won't be a memory outage issue, as it uses its own server/ECC memory only."
"We can create and test micro-workflows to find defects sooner."
"Redwood is more flexible and we can schedule the tasks based on different time zones."
"It is very easy and easy to use, and minimal supervision is required to run it."
"This program works with every browser."
"In Redwood Automation, we can easily fetch the daily reports from the system as per the client's requirement and track the status of every job which is running, aborted, or canceled."

Cons

"Nintex is still at the starting point of integrating with AI. It has integrated with a very small piece of artificial intelligence., like only integrated with the Google Cloud. There is a benefit, like a no-code and low-code solution. But, again, if you are a developer, especially if you are a hardcore developer, you are using your code knowledge, its skills, and all. And, suddenly, you are moving into the low-code solution, and then you will feel, like, so many things you can't achieve with the low-code solution."
"We would like to have access to an on-premises solution. In our country, we have a relationship with Central Bank of Egypt, which do noes not allow cloud solutions to be used. They should offer an on-prem solution with a flexible price license."
"There have been some glitches, and the workflow fails frequently."
"Nintex seems to be very server intensive. It is one of the reasons that we are moving to a different product on the SharePoint 2016 platform."
"The license pricing is too high currently for Nintex Workflow."
"The management server and the admin page where you can manage processes need improvement."
"Difficult to include external partners with the solution deployed on-premise."
"Currently, copying workflow actions from one workflow to another is not possible. Also, the Office 365 solution is not as mature as on-premise."
"The product could be better in terms of its monitoring and alert service."
"I have not noted any downsides."
"Redwood Software has a high price tag, especially for small and medium-sized businesses that might not have the funds to engage in a complete automation system."
"Currently, our developers aren't able to access their own objects in the user acceptance testing server and production system server as they are assigned the developer access role, which is kind of a solid role, and no changes or additions can be made to it."
"It would be nice if Redwood RunMyJobs could work on different systems."
"We'd like to see an integration with ServiceNow to raise the tickets/incidents in ServiceNow."
"The solution should have more focus on security standards."
"Enhancing the user interface would make it more appealing and accessible to a wide range of users."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It's more suited for enterprise level, not for small or medium-sized businesses (SMBs)."
"Nintex is around INR 200 per license in India, which is much cheaper. Smaller organizations are always looking for cost-effective solutions, and Nintex provides local solutions with very low pricing."
"Nintex products are expensive, but valuable. Licensing in on-premise was historically based on a perpetual model, where you’d license per Web front-end. However, they are switching exclusively to a consumption (subscription) model, where you purchase the number of workflows you think you’ll use in your environment, and can scale up from there."
"This solution is affordable and is cheaper than most alternatives on the market. We have a standard cloud license that costs about 20k per year."
"Certainly. Notably, in terms of cost, this solution presents a substantial advantage, being approximately forty percent more economical compared to Oracle. It offers flexibility with two deployment options, catering to both cloud and on-premises preferences. Moreover, within each deployment option, there are two variations available. For organizations with limited IT resources and relying on citizen developers—individuals from the business side comfortable with technology—the platform allows for a more hands-on approach. These users can independently implement solutions without extensive coding or custom development. In contrast, the KQ solution at Symantec is adept at addressing the needs of sectors like banking, where extensive custom development is required for seamless integration with existing applications, websites, and ensuring robust security measures."
"For the initial hundred users, the cost is $21,000 per year, which I find too high."
"There is an initial fee when purchasing and a fee for maintenance afterward."
"We pay on a yearly basis. It's my understanding that we pay approximately $11,000/year."
"It initially surprised me because we went from an application that was priced by connection to agents/the number of agents to an application that was priced based on the number of job executions. At that time, many of the products we looked at were also priced on job execution. That seems to be more common in the business or in the vendors that provide solutions out there, but that was probably our biggest difference."
