Cost effective but when we originally purchased LANGuardian, some features needed further development.

Have integrated effective monitoring and seamless alerting with improved visualization capabilities
The most valuable feature of SCOM is its monitoring capability, and we have integrated SCOM with Grafana, which is a dashboarding tool. We have implemented and integrated this to create dashboarding of the SCOM monitoring system for the database, SQL, and the Linux servers we have configured in SCOM. We have created separate dashboarding for it, and the monitoring and creating rules and monitors in the management servers and management packs that SCOM provides are very useful for us. The alerting mechanism of SCOM has benefited our operations because we have modified the thresholds as per our internal requirements. We have configured threshold modifications for the CPU, memory, and especially for disk space. For routine disk space usage on the system, we have provided a separate threshold configuration.

Pros

"If you are looking for a solid solution that can be easily deployed then I'd recommend considering Netfort solutions."
"Our CIO asked us to track down the source of undesired uploads, which trigger e-mails received by outside bodies regarding what they refer to as "copyright violations", and Languardian was the most efficient and effective tool for the job."
"Because it's Windows-based, it actually reports quite well, reports everything you can think of on the Windows server, and allows you to monitor anything, making it excellent for those in the Windows world as it's very good at it."
"Having been in IT for over 20 years, with Microsoft, you know what you are getting."
"This solution saves us a lot of work because it reduces the effort that is required in order to start monitoring."
"Asset monitoring and auto alerts are the most valuable features of this product to me."
"I like the historical reporting of observer metrics, and it's a fairly user-friendly solution."
"It is a user-friendly product that requires almost no maintenance."
"The most valuable feature of SCOM is real-time alerts."
"My customers are using SCOM to avoid business disruptions."

Cons

"It takes a long time to load results. I think it would be great if they fix the slowness issue in the next release."
"Sure, at the time we bought the product, the GUI and graphs/reports/pie charts etc ... were not fully developed."
"SCOM is likely to be phased out in favor of more compatible tools like Icinga for application monitoring or when moving to cloud solutions like CloudWatch and Azure."
"Overall, I find that this is a good solution but the presentation layer is really bad."
"Third-party tools have had to be created to make SCOM management pack creation more efficient and effective. However, this weighs down the application as it just adds a resource requirement, which is ballooning the size of the necessary storage and all that for essentially substandard components."
"SCOM is always known to be very unstable when it comes to SCOM Agents which are installed locally on all the servers."
"The solution should have more tools for monitoring the cloud engine versus on-premise."
"Then there is also an issue with capacity and limited space. That is something that needs to be improved."
"The configuration, especially for alerts, are somewhat lengthy."
"In a future release, they should add email notification alerts."
