Native encryption ensures secure data management with a simple deployment
The most valuable feature is the on-premises data encryption facilities. By default, we can provide encryption, and this feature in MySQL is why we prefer it over other databases. The native encryption in MySQL encourages us to use this database model more frequently compared to Oracle and other databases. With Oracle, we have to buy another solution for encryption and masking, but MySQL supports native encryption, which enhances our return on investment. It perfectly supports our ROI, and we have no issues with its functionality.

It has eliminated all kinds of inconsistencies, and it is reliable, secure, and fast
I don't know whether SQL Server can support large organizations where the database size is more than 100 GB. It might be because of SQL Server, or it might be because of the programming of the software vendor, but a lot of people think that it is a problem with SQL Server. It can't handle a large amount of data or large data size. In terms of its usage, about 90% of our applications are running on the SQL Server database. We have around 1,600 users for our software, and all the applications are connected to the SQL Server database.

Real-time data connection enhances workflow and decision-making process
An area for improvement in Tableau is the Explorer license type. It is not as useful, and the product owner should enhance its benefits or clarify its role. Additionally, the frequent updates with many versions available for download can be confusing and could affect stability. They should avoid providing access to older versions on their website.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The initial setup was easy. I work in an agile way, which means coding and deploying quickly."
"One of the most valuable features is MySQL's ability to run our email system. We use a system called Colab."
"The tool is open-source and there is no cost involved in its use."
"It has a lot of features. The RDBMS, consistency, and multi-user features are valuable."
"It is very easy to install and has all basic database features."
"MySQL is the best option for the Laravel PHP framework."
"I like the simplistic view of MySQL to build custom queries and things like that as compared to SQL Server, which seems more cluttered. SQL Server has a query analyzer. MySQL pretty much does the same, and performance-wise, it has less overhead for connecting to our ERP system. It seems more responsive and cleaner. With MySQL, you get what you need without any overbloating, for which Microsoft is known. That's why they have so many constant security patches for everything because there is so much stuff, which degrades performance."
"MySQL is a scalable tool. Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a nine out of ten...The solution's technical support is good. I rate the technical support a nine out of ten."
"SQL Server is very scalable because we use it across a couple of different types of applications, such as micro-infrastructure setup and server farm."
"can extract data from the server and store it in a local data source for BI purposes."
"SQL Server is widely used and it's simple. You cannot do without Microsoft if you want to manage IT for a business customer."
"It is secure, and it is fast. For our present database size, we are using the Always-On feature on SQL Server so that our transactions are replicated among three servers. If one server goes down, we can find the data from other servers. We have benefited from this feature."
"The most valuable feature of SQL Server is the performance."
"SQL Server is easy to manage because all our DevOps team are familiar with it and simple to access because it is cloud-based."
"The solution can be deployed in a few minutes."
"Managing database is very good."
"The solution deployment was straightforward."
"The most valuable features of Tableau include building hyper extracts and creating visuals."
"The solution is easy to use, flexible, our clients enjoy seeing the data on maps, and you do not need to be an expert in SQL to use it."
"Its performance is pretty good, and the development time is very low."
"The platform's most important feature is predictive analysis."
"It allows us to basically understand and evaluate our numbers in an expedient manner."
"It is so easy to do a lot of things. There is a lot of flexibility and creativity in this product. In other products, you don't have this flexibility."
"The solution has a lot of customization when comparing to Microsoft BI."

Cons

"There should be more tools to manage the on-premises version and more automation features."
"Its performance should be better. When we use big data, it is slow in performance. We should be able to use mirroring for improved performance."
"The solution could have better integration and security features."
"The GUI interface probably can be improved. Let us say I want to see the relationships in the database. In the query analyzer, I would like to go and drop the tables and create relationships between the tables. I haven't found a feature like that in MySQL. It was a shortcoming even in SQL Server. MySQL can have more performance monitoring tools. I know Google has these tools, but within MySQL, there are not that many tools to monitor things like performance and database locking. They might be in there, and I might not be familiar enough to know where they are. I am a pretty new user of MySQL."
"The licensing of the solution is on the expensive side."
"MySQL lacks a feature akin to Oracle's Real Application Clusters, which ensures continuous database availability within the same data center or nearby data centers."
"Security is a concern. MySQL could have better security features."
"It could be a little bit simpler to use."
"SQL Server backups could be better."
"There should be more security updates for the product."
"Price could be cheaper, and access to reporting tools should be better."
"The interface could be updated to make it slightly more user-friendly."
"There is room for improvement in performance when managing a large quality of data and a high number of active users."
"I would like to see better integration between their link server and other platforms, such as IBM."
"The reporting services of the solution (SSRS and now Power BI) are the less valuable items of the SQL Server suite."
"For a big amount of data, when we are speaking about IoT Segments, and Big Data projects, there are performance issues."
"Tableau support could be improved."
"The extraction, transformation and loading of data in Tableau takes a lot of time and we do not have confidence that Tableau is showing all the data we need."
"When it comes to visualizations, Tableau has a limitation as compared to Power BI. It has a limited set of visualizations. Power BI has the entire marketplace, so you can connect and import many visualizations and use them, whereas Tableau has only 10 or 15 visualizations. There should be more visualizations, and there should also be data integration with more cloud providers."
"The performance could be better."
"The visualizations should be user-friendly and allow for more custom visualizations."
"There are restrictions in scheduling reports. For instance, we cannot send the entire Excel file reports via email within Tableau."
"It is not so great when it comes to data exchange/integration, data mining, etc."
"The price could be better."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is open source. We prefer it for POCs because it saves the license cost."
"This is an open-source product that can be used free of charge."
"It's an open-source database management system that can be used free of charge."
"The pricing is not much expensive, it's cheap."
"The tool is open source."
"There is no licensing fee."
"We are using the free community edition of MySQL."
"There is not a license required for this solution."
"It is expensive, but you get what you pay for."
"To scale the solution there are additional costs."
"The product’s price depends on the specific server requirements."
"We did a one-time payment. Its price, in general, can be reduced."
"The SQL server is affordable. I rate the pricing a five out of ten."
"The price has been going higher and higher. The market is quite price sensitive."
"It is expensive in terms of licensing costs and pricing. If you want to scale SQL Server, it is very expensive. We probably have to pay extra for technical support. We also have to pay for the license of Windows on which the SQL Server resides, which is an extra cost."
"Although it comes with a cost, using the most recent version is highly advisable, since it would ensure a certain measure of bug fixes and stability. The sole issue would involve the cost, as this is expensive."
"Tableau's licensing is pretty straightforward and simple."
"It is expensive when you compare it with Power BI. It should be cheaper."
"Its price is a concern. It is more expensive than Power BI. My guess would be that it is $1000 or less per year. We might go for Power BI in the future because of its umbrella with Microsoft licensing. It is much cheaper for us to use Power BI, and some folks will go in that direction because they don't want to pay the higher license."
"Basically, we prefer a permanent license. A one-time charge is much better."
"Tableau is an expensive solution compared to Power BI."
"The solution's licensing is based on user-basis. It depends on the business ROI it offers. It's not on the higher side or too cheap; it falls in the medium-cost range. The price is determined by user usage, so the cost will also increase as the number of users increases."
"It is more expensive than other solutions."
"We always consider pricing when considering a new solution. We are a non-profit and price is a huge concern."
