Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The product is quite an effective firewall.""The most valuable is the blocking of blacklisted sites, a URL that is, either by intelligence or by McAfee, detected as a malicious site.""The most valuable feature is the ease in the configuration for security roles.""McAfee Web Protection was a good tool because in the olden days when you had to use a proxy tool when browsing the internet. Today the logic has changed slightly, in the sense your protection's taken onto the cloud. You'll exit a predefined gateway on the cloud before your internet browsing happens and therefore you're secured.""The solution does what it's meant to do.""It doesn't seem to take too much system bandwidth, and I also like its reporting. Once a month, it gives me a reminder of the activity. It reminds me that the protection is on, and if there are any issues, it summarizes those minor issues. During the month, it only notifies when there is something special.""It is functional. It has reduced risk and downtime while also ensuring regulatory compliance, which is critical.""Provides good accessibility and handles any overload very well."

"Webroot excels in DNS protection, particularly in blocking malicious sites and phishing.""When compared with other products, Webroot DNS Protection is the best to secure the end users.""The installation is easy and doesn't take long. The program speedy and doesn't crash. It doesn't consume computer hardware or software.""DNS protection is valuable.""The dashboard of the solution is a valuable feature.""Almost everyone who uses it is happy about the product. I don't get any types of complaints from my clients."

"The most valuable feature is bandwidth control.""The solution replaces multiple vendor technologies with one which makes it worth the cost.""One feature that is valuable to me from an implementation point of view is that it's very easy to implement.""The data loss prevention feature is the most valuable. It stops our users from inadvertently leaking our customers' data to the Internet or anywhere else it shouldn't go.""The users are at different locations, and Zscaler helps us to put the organization's central security controls on these roaming users.""The solution’s customer service is good.""The VPN is valuable, as the whole technology is very different from a traditional VPN.""The solution is stable and reliable."

Cons
"Lacking filter for spam.""We used a consultant to help us set it up. Unfortunately, he was not that good. They were out of McAfee people. He was a consultant and knew the product, but he was not a McAfee person. How they managed it and how they worked was not straightforward.""I'm not sure if the solution itself is cloud-based or not. If it isn't they really need to begin to develop that out a bit.""The configuration could be simplified because it is more complex to make the configuration on McAfee. What can be improved is the support of the agent on smartphones, IOS or Android. That still now is not available yet.""In McAfee Web Protection there are gaps in the security design, in the overall architecture, the gaps need to be fixed.""The solution should be more proactive in regards to sending you updates.""We need a better customer experience and more flexibility in the product.""The True Key version for mobile phones should be improved. The password manager is not as seamless as on the desktop. Once implemented, on the desktop, when you go to the site, it automatically fills and connects you, whereas, on the mobile phone, it doesn't do that quite seamlessly. You need to open the True Key application and then select the password you want to use. It then opens in the browser. There are fewer steps in the desktop version as compared to the mobile version."

"If the solution could integrate with FortiGate where there would only be a need of one dashboard instead of having to set policies on our firewall and our DNS, this would be helpful.""The price could be improved.""It needs to be more secure for production environments.""The reporting system needs improvement. They should make is that we can customize it so we can add, remove or change its interface but they use a template. The reports cannot be changed.""Reporting is not done in real-time. Rather, it is done in 15-minute intervales. This is something that should be configurable by the admin.""It addresses a specific risk related to malicious sites but doesn't cover broader security aspects."

More Webroot DNS Protection Cons →

"There are a few features that are not compatible with the Azure cloud.""In terms of user experience, it could be better.""I don't know whether it's Zscaler or not, however, sometimes I can't access my time management. I need to wait and try again a few hours later. Typically, if I let some time pass, I can access it again.""Zscaler needs to add client-to-client communication. It's always client-to-server communication. The cloud and branch connectors could be improved because we're still dependent on traditional firewalls. They should eliminate this. They should also provide WAN devices should to compete with the SD-WAN solutions also.""They could provide more time for the onboarding the training of an IT person.""The main issue with Zscaler Internet Access is proxy IP detection, which sometimes makes sites inaccessible.""Technical support could be better.""One thing that needs to be improved is their presence in China. I'm not sure if that's a Zscaler thing or if it's a problem with all vendors in this space, but it would be nice to have better coverage in China. This concern is a common one for vendors across the board when dealing with the Chinese market."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "$150 Canadian per year."
  • "It is not very expensive. It costs 100 Canadian Dollars per year per license. I buy one-year or two-year protection. The license covers my PC, laptops, and telephone. The cost is per user but for multiple devices. It has just the standard licensing fees. There are some options for extended protection. For example, if I wanted to have a VPN, there will be an extra cost. So, there are upgradable features, but I'm very happy with what it is giving me with the basic plan. It gives me the basic privacy protection that I need."
  • "The license number would be approximately $35,000."
  • "In McAfee Web Protection you have the ability to install any appliance you want with the same license. If you need an appliance on-premise, you can install it with the same license because the license is for users, not for appliances. If you need one more, you can install it and you don't have problems with the license or need to change your environment."
  • "The pricing is cheaper than some of the other options that are available."

  • "The pricing is an issue. It is expensive compared to other firewalls on the market."
  • "Roughly, we might spend $70,000 a month on the solution. We don't pay for anything beyond the standard licensing fee."
  • "Our monthly fee is around R3000."
  • "The pricing is fair based on its competitive market."

    Overview

McAfee Web Protection is a web content filtering tool that guards against sophisticated internet threats on every device, user, and location. McAfee Web Protection provides the protection, controls, and deployment flexibility you need, from web filtering and anti-malware scanning to deep content inspection and granular control over Web 2.0 sites.

Every day, McAfee Labs detects over 100,000 new pieces of malware. Businesses are demanding the finest web security available to combat such expansion as the level of risk continues to rise. McAfee, more than any other vendor, understands the security needs of today's linked Web 2.0 environment and provides the industry's most effective, proactive web security.

With McAfee Web Protection’s deployment flexibility, businesses can secure personnel at corporate headquarters with hardware or virtual appliances, and remote or traveling staff with cloud services. Branch offices can also send all of their site's traffic to the cloud service, saving money on MPLS networks, which normally backhaul all public-facing web traffic to a central location for processing.

    McAfee Web Protection Features

McAfee Web Protection has many valuable key features. Some of the most useful ones include:

    • Deployment versatility: For more deployment flexibility and high availability, you can combine these three deployment options:
    1. on-premises with appliances
    2. virtual environments
    3. cloud
    • High-level security: The McAfee Gateway Anti-Malware Engine, which features a proprietary approach to behavioral analysis, is used by McAfee Web Protection to stop zero-day malware in real time. McAfee Endpoint Security, McAfee Advanced Threat Defense, McAfee Cloud Threat Detection, and McAfee Threat Intelligence Exchange integration are all provided.
    • Advanced reporting: Regardless of the delivery platform, advanced reporting aggregates the data you need to secure your web presence. McAfee Web Protection provides data that indicates how businesses use the internet, assisting in the compliance of legislation, the identification of trends, the isolation of problems, the documentation of incorrect web activity, and the customization of filtering settings to best regulate web usage policies.
    • Maximum flexibility: McAfee Web Gateway on-premises equipment, McAfee SaaS Web Protection and McAfee Web Filter for Endpoint, are all included in a single subscription. These tools, together, address current demands while allowing for future changes.
    • High-level security: McAfee Web Protection, the top-rated malware protection solution, employs the McAfee Gateway anti-malware engine, which employs a patent-pending behavioral analysis technique.
    • Complete protection, both incoming and outgoing: With a comprehensive web filtering database, McAfee Web Protection follows a business's internet use policy. Malware and other hidden dangers are quickly and effectively protected using layered security.

    Reviews from Real Users

Below are some reviews and helpful feedback written by Zscaler Internet Access users.

A Service Manager at a construction company says, "There are a bunch of different capabilities that are valuable within the platform. We use quite a lot of them, but not everything. The ones that are most important to us are the URL Filtering and the application control. For our needs, the cloud-native proxy architecture is a very good solution. This architecture helps with cyber threats because we inspect most of the traffic and we can see that a lot of threats are stopped directly in the secure web gateway."

Owen N., Security Architect at Claro Enterprise Solutions, explains that the solution’s most valuable features include “The integration of the gateway that inspects all ports and protocols. So, there is threat prevention; The cloud sandbox; VNS security; Access control that will protect URL filtering and the cloud firewall; Data protection that will protect your gateway, like your CASB or your cloud DLP; The capabilities of this will point your traffic to Zscaler Cloud.”

An Architecture Senior Manager at an insurance company mentions, "The data loss prevention feature is the most valuable. It stops our users from inadvertently leaking our customers' data to the Internet or anywhere else it shouldn't go." He also adds, “The solution provides quick access to cloud services, securing our data and allowing us to inspect all our traffic.”
