Affordable and provides visibility into what the users are doing with the data
The file integrity monitoring feature is difficult to manage because some files are confidential while others are not. We use a different tool to classify the files as confidential and non-confidential. The sensitive data discovery and classification features are not of much help. It is a difficult process. The controlling features must be improved. The interface must be improved.

Strengthened security operations with endpoint-level protection but database flexibility could improve
Symantec Data Loss Prevention has proprietary metadata and is well-suited for endpoint-level security. It stands out for supporting multiple protocols like email and SMTP without needing user profile login for endpoint agents. Once policies are downloaded to the local system, they function independently of a user's login. The solution helps enhance security operations when integrated with ServiceNow and offers robust incident response capabilities.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The product’s strict policies are its best features."
"The detection and alert features are valuable."
"They have a feature on the management side called the document indexer. Let's say you have a unique document with many near identical versions, which have one or several values that change, while the rest of the content stays the same. You can collect 50 of those documents and put them into this feature of the Symantec DLP system. It will compress them and create a profile specifically for that document."
"The product is very stable."
"The features I like most about this solution is the endpoint modules because it gives us the protection we need."
"The initial setup is easy."
"It has good options for policy findings. You can do granular policy enhancements with multiple options. And the SMB blocking is a very good feature."
"The dashboard, management section, and reporting are good."
"The solution can easily scale."
"The product's deployment phase was easy."

Cons

"The vendor must provide a cloud solution."
"The interface must be improved."
"The solution is not user-friendly."
"Reporting could be improved."
"Where things could be improved is that product engineering takes time to respond when we make a request. They get on a call for troubleshooting, but fixing the issue takes time."
"The enforce service is difficult to understand, and free courses made available on the internet would be useful."
"They need to expand the channels they check."
"The one downside for Symantec is that, due to its transition from Symantec to Broadcom, there's been a lot of changes. I am based in the Philippines and we don't have a contact person locally for any Symantec."
"We want a more proactive reporting structure."
"Their support program needs a lot of improvement. If you are stuck somewhere, getting their support can be difficult."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing is reasonable."
"The tool's licensing costs are yearly."
"Pricing is reasonable."
"If you are a small firm with less than 150 users, Symantec can be too pricey."
"DLP could be a bit cheaper."
"From what I know the pricing is good, it's not too expensive. If you negotiate you can get a good price."
"In terms of pricing, Symantec DLP works with Oracle Database. Oracle Database licensing is much more expensive than other databases. That might be a drawback for customers. The pricing is on a yearly subscription basis."
"The platform is expensive."
"We are happy with the pricing and licencing."
