Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Manageability is very good and probably the most valuable part of a tool of this type. There is a little more of a learning curve than you have with a simple tool, but a business user can learn to manage the system as an administrator very easily.""The look and feel and the user interface are great.""It allows us to arrange and develop new ideas, then incorporate them into the portal. We can create a one stop information center, so people can access the information from one window.""I think that it could be interesting to expand the eCommerce capabilities to the B2C sector.""The solution is easy to install.""The integration capabilities of the product are super easy to use.""The web/mobile/portal integration was one of the features that we found most valuable, primarily because it reduced our development time.""We chose Liferay because it is open-source and that we can make any number of users apply, register into the system and use the system, as opposed to other solutions where the cost is based on user licenses. This is one of the most attractive features."

It is very easy to use.""Valuable features include the integration with Microsoft Office and the fact that it is in the cloud. Also, it's quite easy to use.""The product's initial setup phase was straightforward.""Yammer is useful since it is a product you can easily integrate into our system since Microsoft supports it.""The design of the solution is its most valuable feature.""The most valuable feature of Yammer is its interface.""It was a stable solution...It was a highly scalable solution considering it was used in a very big company.""Yammer brings in the most relevant posts to the users."

Cons
"It could have better built-in integration with a wider variety of extensions out-of-the-box.""The plugins should be more affordable.""The documentation provided needs to be more detailed. It's sometimes hard to develop things because the documentation is so sparse.""Social area and capabilities need improvement.""It could be improved in terms of adding filters to some of the rules. Therefore, you can retain how long a document would need to stay in an archive.""The integration and configuration need to be simplified."

More Liferay Digital Experience Platform Cons →

"We tried to integrate into SharePoint, but it was not really efficient.""The interface is clunky and could be improved.""It should have integration with multiple third-party platforms.""Users need to be in the Acting Directory to exploit the features.""This solution would be improved if it was well integrated with other communication applications.""I would like to see a fancier user interface. That is one of the weak points of Yammer.""Yammer's UX and UI are areas with certain shortcomings where improvements are required""It looks slightly less clean on Chrome compared to Microsoft Edge, but it's a minor difference. There is room for improvement in user experience, like positions of elements."

There are several discussions on SharePoint’s social strategy going on at the moment. I had some great discussions with my MVP mate Adis during Summit last week. Since #SPC12 almost every SharePoint addicted developer, it-pro, power user has reviewed Yammer. If you don’t know what Yammer is, here a short introduction. Yammer is an enterprise social network, which allows you and your coworkers to communicate in a modern way as on Facebook. The huge difference between Facebook and Yammer is, Yammer is private. That means only people from your organization or the people you’ve invited to join your network can see and take part of the conversation which is going on in your Yammer network. With the common understanding of Yammer, you should be able to follow up the ongoing discussions. Adis wrote a great post, summarizing his thoughts on SharePoint and Yammer integration and the upcoming social future. I totally agree with Adis, there are a lot of things missing at the moment. But here my thoughts on Yammer vs. SPSocial Leak of integration In my eyes there is still too much missing, of course you can integrate yammer into your SharePoint, but key features are missing such as SSO, seamless look ‘n feel integration. Prebuild views on Yammer depending on the current SharePoint context or the mobile story. Microsoft shipped mobile Apps for SharePoint 2013 OnDemand and OnPrem. AFAIK are these apps currently available in preview, but each of them is based on SPSocial. SharePoint… Read more →
