Expansive integrations boost automation potential across devices
I am in the field of product research and am familiar with Katalon Studio for product comparisons and test automation. Even though I am not an active tester, I have created a few tests using Katalon Studio Some of our customers use Katalon Studio, however, our own product, Tangene, is a…

Flow automation software that is user friendly for non technical teams and offers good value for money
If it is a business critical environment that needs to be up 99.999% of the time, LEAPWORK is the solution to go with because the ROI on it is good. We ended up using SmartBear because of how expensive LEAPWORK is. I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The automation is very fast and you don't need to be overly proficient in coding."
"The report generated using Katalon Studio is extremely valuable."
"The most important feature is the Jenkins integration; it is pretty straight forward and allows us to run nightly builds."
"The most valuable feature of Katalon Studio is visual testing. It compares the look and feel of an application which is useful."
"The most valuable feature is its automation security capabilities."
"It is good for API testing. It is also good for continuous integration testing. You can connect it to Jenkins."
"It is easy for a non-technical person to use and adopt."
"The basic framework and project organization is very good."
"The UI is user-friendly."
"The most valuable of this solution is the no code option. It offers drag and drop when it comes to development and removes the need for a developer."
"It provides automated testing. Instead of us doing manual testing, we can utilize Leapwork, and it tests most of our critical processes. In the next phase, we also plan to do some process work with it, such as using Leapwork to create reports or provide certain extracts of data."

Cons

"Currently, I'm the only one who can use it because I have a Mac. It is giving a hard time to my team members who are on Linux. My team members are using Linux, and Katalon doesn't support Linux very well. It keeps on crashing. It crashes and shuts down almost every time they save their work, so they are not able to use it. It should have good support for Linux. We don't know what the problem is. If the Katalon team can pick up this issue, it will be very helpful."
"It should be faster while executing, and there are some defects, like choosing the new device with the test case."
"One improvement would be if it could support more programming languages such as JavaScript or Python. Right now, it is only on Groovy, which I think is not a too popular language."
"It would be helpful to have an automatic save feature."
"Extending the certification validity, especially after the trial period, would be beneficial."
"During parallel execution, some reports are randomly switched."
"Now we are having difficulties in using it and had to limit our automation experts to the features that Katalon allows us to use for free. It was free access and they claimed that it would be free for all time."
"The Object Spy is rather frustrating to work with, so I tend not to use it."
"This solution could be improved by offering better reporting related to the integration into Azure DevOps."
"The initial setup is difficult."
"It is a very comprehensive tool, and there is a significant learning curve to being able to adopt the tool. Because it does so much, there is only so much that you can learn. You can, however, do some simpler things right away. They do have a kind of boot camp where some of their experts engage with you, and during that time, you can work on the top initiatives that you want to do, and that's a good process. After you start using the tool, there is a lot more that you would want to do."
"The only thing that I don't like about the product is the need to deploy agents on the laptops of people doing the testing. So, you have an agent on a server, then you have an agent on the laptop of the person who is doing the testing, and that seems like a lot of stuff and a kind of anti-cloud. Why do I have to deploy agents on people's machines in order to do something in the cloud? I'm sure they're doing that so they can monitor their licensing and all that stuff, but it is not necessarily a friendly process."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The cost of Katalon Studio is expensive but it is less than some of the other solutions, such as Micro Focus UFT or SmartBear TestComplete. The cost is the main reason we are using Katalon Studio."
"Price-wise, Katalon Studio is a costly product. Considering what the solution provides its users with, I can say that price-wise, Katalon Studio is an okay product."
"The approximate cost is around $8,000."
"The product is expensive."
"We were using the free version of this tool."
"We are using the free version. We plan on getting a paid version because there is a limitation in terms of the number of users. We want to maximize it."
"The product is affordable. It has an average and competitive pricing compared to other vendors."
"We got a deal on it for the first year. We're paying $8,000."
"The product is not cheap."
