Cloud data catalog has streamlined lineage and quality while leaving more automation to improve
I have not explored IDMC's automation capabilities driven by AI and metadata too much at the moment, but it is on the cards. We are basically creating the foundation, as the whole migration has taken place recently and it is still early days. I think Informatica Intelligent Data Management Cloud (IDMC) is evolving, and as the vendors move forward, they pick up new concepts from each other. I have seen that products leapfrog each other, and from my experience over the years, the big players tend to copy features or add enhancements based on industry trends. I feel whatever the tool does not have now, there is a feedback loop allowing us to request new features, and we continually ask for different ways to do things as we have a pipeline into the product management team. It is difficult to say what additional features I would prefer to see in the next release of IDMC. I would appreciate more automation on the lineage front, with more AI to seamlessly join independent sources and create seamless lineage between different technologies, such as from file into database A into a different database and landing up in a reporting system such as Cognos, Qlik, Qlik Sense, QlikView, or Power BI.

A highly scalable and flexible solution that has excellent workflows and provides fast technical support
I am satisfied with the product. The documentation is getting better. I rate the documentation a six out of ten. We use the capability of this product to use other products like IBM to move data. The solution's workflows are its best feature. The tool is workflow-based and is very useful for integration. It is a hub for our clients. It is very useful.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It can automatically connect or associate business terms with various options, providing flexibility beyond general capabilities."
"Informatica Cloud Data Integration has a strong enterprise customer base and this is one of the main reasons why we choose to work with them."
"We can scan anything."
"I am a fan of Informatica and it is definitely a product that I recommend because of its inbuilt capabilities."
"The solution has an excellent data profiler."
"When I compare with other vendors, Informatica support is better, feedback-wise."
"I use AddressDoctor to validate addresses on an e-commerce site; it is simple to use and the results are always correct."
"The solution offers good data governance."
"The tool has good scalability and flexibility."

Cons

"UI application performance was quite disappointing until v9.0.x, but with 9.5 and later versions, they have facelifted the UI."
"The product is more expensive than other similar solutions."
"The solution is not as stable as we'd like. We need to do a lot of work on the operational side because it crashes frequently, at least once a week."
"Their data quality reporting, especially their dashboards and scorecards, is lackluster at best."
"Don't know yet. In a trial now. There is much to find out, first and foremost, its performance level when compared with on-prem."
"I think the price modeling could be improved."
"The company that I moved out of was going to be switching off Informatica at some point due to licensing, et cetera, and they just chose to go to StreamSets with Snowflake for storage."
"Logical views are a little bit behind in comparison to the on-premise version."
"There are not many consultants who know the product."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price is comparable."
"Informatica Cloud Data Integration is famously known for its high price. The vendor targets large enterprises, and not medium or small companies. These large companies, and organizations, handle large amounts of data. If you go into any large bank, such as American or Canadian banks, these banks use this solution because it is more reliable, secure, and has more functionality."
"The licensing costs attached to the solution are pretty high, but then, with the cloud model, the prices depend on what it provides for the value of money, which I feel was very high."
"it's expensive, but if you're looking for a stable solution, Informatica MDM is a good one to choose."
"Its pricing model can be improved."
"We saw an ROI. We have been able to get data from various sources and consolidate it into a data lake, which is helping us in data analytics."
"Informatica MDM is a costly solution because it comes as a bundle. They are also globally positioning themselves and are definitely working on very upgraded technologies. If someone wanted to do it on the cloud, they have a lot of flexibility because they upgrade themselves according to the current needs. It definitely comes with a lot of features and that's the reason why it's costly. The licensing cost should be approximately one million dollars. It's about four to five times that of other vendors."
"The product is highly-priced."
"The pricing is aligned with other products."
