Integrates well with IBM technologies, but it's outdated and lacks essential features
Implementing synthetic monitoring for our Internet banking site has been challenging. The installation process is difficult, requiring continuous support and specialist expertise due to our limited knowledge of managing it effectively. I have concerns about the complexity of the tool and the challenges in managing it effectively. The support provided is not satisfactory, and the specialists available lack sufficient training and expertise in using the tool.

The installation process is the first aspect I dislike about Splunk ITSI (IT Service Intelligence). If you do not configure it correctly, you will encounter issues in the search head. Because we use a distributed environment where each component has its own specific roles, installation is critical and requires careful attention. Splunk ITSI (IT Service Intelligence) is built with many applications. It is a compressed file, and when you extract the Splunk ITSI (IT Service Intelligence) app, you receive approximately 19 apps. Some applications, add-ons, and packages must be installed on specific components. If you do not configure an application correctly, it will not work. Sometimes we encounter issues during installation because of this complexity. I believe the installation process should be more uniform, meaning it could be deployed across all components to avoid post-installation issues. Sometimes after installation, you receive errors, and users cannot access Splunk ITSI (IT Service Intelligence). We have experienced this type of issue due to installation errors. I believe there is currently room for improvement regarding scalability. When we create Glass Tables containing many searches, the Glass Tables sometimes fail due to memory constraints, and we receive error pages. Splunk ITSI (IT Service Intelligence) should have a lightweight version to address these concerns. I would rate current scalability as medium.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution is very stable, and we never had any issues with stability."
"IBM's main value lies in its integration with its own technologies, which can be seen as a benefit in environments where IBM products are extensively used."
"Having worked closely with Splunk support engineers, I've observed their high capabilities in resolving issues."
"The health scores and glass tables are extremely valuable and useful."
"The predictive analysis feature is quite useful, as it helps identify potential issues before they impact services and allows for proactive action."
"In my opinion, Splunk IT Service Intelligence (ITSI) is better than QRadar. With the help of Splunk, we can get results."
"Customers have noted the solution helps streamline incident management."
"I particularly like the preview feature because it provides a prompt experience for impact analysis."
"Splunk ITSI (IT Service Intelligence) calculates the service health based on our KPIs and scores and it helps us to monitor services instead of just infrastructure."
"It has saved me a lot of money and a lot of time."

Cons

"The user interface was not good."
"The installation process is difficult, requiring continuous support and specialist expertise due to our limited knowledge of managing it effectively."
"Splunk ITSI should include ease of integration and more templating."
"The cost of the license could be lower."
"We experience occasional delays in receiving solutions from Splunk technical support. Splunk's support for P3 cases seems inadequate, as they frequently switch support personnel. For instance, in a single P3 case, we had three different technical support representatives assigned. We were ultimately forced to escalate the issue to our account manager to get it resolved. In essence, we never receive complete support from a single point of contact; instead, the support team keeps changing, necessitating us to explain the problem from scratch each time."
"Splunk ITSI's UI needs to be more interactive and user-friendly."
"Training the database could make Splunk ITSI (IT Service Intelligence) even better for my work."
"We also faced challenges relating to UI development — being able to get the UI the way we wanted it to look performance-wise. Some of the customization levels of the UI just weren't there."
"Splunk ITSI (IT Service Intelligence) can be improved through alerts and additional features."
"We're getting alerts with delays of maybe five minutes, however, we'd like to see real-time alerting in the future."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I would rate the pricing a nine to ten. It is very expensive."
"The licensing is based on data usage."
"Splunk ITSI is expensive; however, with the appropriate use case, it justifies the cost."
"Splunk ITSI is a pay-per-use service that is priced fairly based on the amount of data we use."
"I wouldn't say there's been an issue with the solution's pricing because we went through the AWS marketplace and negotiated directly with Splunk."
"It depends on how big an organization is. If we have a lot of resources, the licensing needs to be upgraded. If we have a small environment, the licensing cost is definitely going to be less."
"Splunk ITSI is expensive compared to other tools."
"Pricing was pretty good, and it is possible to just add on the features we want."
"The cost of the modules is a bit high for non-global companies, making it difficult for them to afford Splunk ITSI."
