Database has secured high-volume transactions and supports fast, compliant workflow processing
Sterling B2B Integrator is a highly transactional-oriented application, which can be described as an OLTP application. Any data that flows through the application is stored in the database for each step that it performs. IBM Db2 Database helps the application work much faster from an OLTP perspective. IBM Db2 Database is SSL enabled, which means that from the security point of view, any access to the database is through SSL. Additionally, all compliance-related aspects have been taken care of from the database point of view, including database encryption and security-related features. It is highly scalable, and its performance related to database pruning is very good. It can be scaled vertically or horizontally so that data insertions and data access are much faster and more secure compared to how Oracle or other databases work.

No other solution came close to this product's speed and tech support is on a really high level
If you need local DB cache with extreme speed, then go for it, if you need something to work as a distributed cloud database, then solidDB would not be the right decision. With our Telco experience, we help with suggestions for new features and improvements of existing ones for new versions of solidDB. Also, in our labs, we do some pre-alpha testing to help them to complete some new features in the right way.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"IBM Db2 was much cheaper as a package than using other products. This is because IBM supplied a package with its product. It's an application. So it was much more efficient and a stronger competitor in that regard."
"I would say that IBM DB2 is one of the topmost Database products."
"Ease of use and robust automated security administration and reporting are features any mainframe shop needs and should have."
"I like that its true active-active. For example, if there are two instances within a cluster, we can take one of them down and there's no failover or switch over. There's no primary and secondary, it's true active-active. We can take one side down and we can upgrade that with new maintenance or a new version, obviously testing coexistence beforehand, without impacting the business."
"Technical support is very helpful and better than competitors such as Dell, Lenovo, or HP."
"The solution helps secure the database."
"Db2 is a very old product, but also a very stable product."
"The solution is very stable, in both hardware and database."
"Memory cache DB and carrier grade high availability, best fit to Telco demands."

Cons

"The backup solution lacks flexibility in some situations and could be improved."
"The vendor should offer a free version"
"I find the technical support team is not so aggressive as Oracle. If I put in a request or a ticket it takes time for the team at IBM to reply."
"The user interface is not user-friendly."
"IBM Db2 Database could improve the user-defined functions. There are some user-defined functions that are missing, such as the spring functions. I used to have Teradata for my projects and I was used to working in the environment. They had a good set of user-defined functions."
"It might be slightly slower than other database vendors, but it works well since banks typically do not move quickly with leading-edge technology."
"I would like to see better support for advanced analytics."
"I would say that the tool has to be made more cloud-friendly and should have agreements with AWS, Microsoft, or Google to run things on hyperscalers."
"Data replication and data distribution between multiple nodes definitely have room for improvement here."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is expensive. The price depends on the size of the machine on which you are installing the Db2 and the features you are using. It also depends on the country. IBM has different policies and different options for payment for this product."
"There is a license for this solution and we pay every three years."
"I rate the product pricing a nine out of ten."
"We normally handle large size businesses and as far as I am aware, the license is negotiable based on the number of users and the quantitative data."
"I rate the price of the IBM Db2 Database an eight out of ten."
"Db2 is less expensive than Oracle."
"It's very expensive for West African countries like ours."
"The solution's pricing is fine."
