Efficient management and upgrades streamline complex setups
My main complaint is about the blades on the frames, which seem to have a lot of problems. We often have to call HPE for replacements, such as for memory. Constant issues arise, leading to frequent replacement of blade parts. Additionally, the upgrade process is lengthy, requiring careful planning as we cannot match ESXi versions without aligning OneView first, leading to delays.

A network monitoring platform with a useful reporting feature, but permission-based options could be better
The initial setup is fairly easy. Most of it's wizard-based. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to set it up. But if you don't know certain things related to protocols and everything else, it might be difficult. If you know how SNMP works, it'll be fairly simple to set up.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The main benefits are a single pane of glass, usability between the servers, storage, and network."
"Absolutely install it. Don't get too far behind with more HPE storage or servers without this product."
"It catches physical issues with the servers and will fix them, if possible, and, if not, alert us before they become a problem."
"Scalability is perfect; if I need to, I can add another couple blades or I can add more to it, and I still have about half my 3PAR nodes open so I can keep adding storage as I need it."
"The ease of installation and use help you to come up with a turnkey solution as quickly as possible."
"It's great because it tracks warranty and support status but it also gives me the ability to go in and configure server profiles."
"Just the ability to provision the servers with storage and network everything within one interface, not having to go into multiple interfaces to provision those pieces."
"Firmware compliance is one of the most valuable features."
"The setup is very intuitive and quick - it all just took a few minutes we were done."
"Reporting on NetCrunch is pretty good. It's very similar to SolarWinds. It's just a different interface. The majority of everything there was beneficial."

Cons

"They can improve reporting and provide more customized reports. Currently, reporting is a bit limited. It can be complex to learn and manage for beginners. Because of my experience, I find it comfortable to manage, which might not be the case with beginners. It would be good if they can make it a little bit easier to understand. They can provide a more graphical view of connectivity and other things. Their technical support can also be improved."
"The possibility to do more analytics regarding the status of the assets."
"I saw, maybe three years ago or two years ago here, or in Barcelona, at the HPE Discover conference, a feature that you can update Clusterware with VMware. But the feature is still not live in production. Currently, you have to do all the firmware updates and then you have to do the VMware updates. So you have two reboots and it would be better if it was just one."
"Specifically, it would be great if we had the ability to reapply the server profile faster."
"The main problem that we run into, as far as stability goes, is when something loses its profile."
"I would like to see support for things that aren't in the current generation. We have a lot of 7th and 8th generation hardware."
"From the dashboard and reporting perspective, HPE OneView could be improved by having multiple modules rather than just a single customization option."
"One thing which is missing is that you can't actually log a support call yourself."
"Our network is made up of a lot of Cisco devices, and it needs improvements."
"I didn't care for the role-based, permission-based options, which were not the best."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Use it. It is free."
"This license cost for OneView was $3,000 USD."
"I feel the product's price falls a bit on the higher side."
"I would rate the cost as six out of ten."
"I am happy with the price."
"HPE could lower the price."
"Synergy does not require iLO licenses but servers and enclosures must be purchased."
"When it comes to the government, money is never an issue, so it was excellent in terms of the HPE OneView licensing cost. Hitachi was cheaper, but I'd rate HPE OneView cost-wise as eight out of ten."
