Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"This product is stable, aside from the performance problems we had.""The solution is easy to install.""It is reliable, and it seems like a solid product. It has been working well so far.""The solution is easy to use and very stable.""3PAR is different from other storage solutions because it uses a chunklet when we initiate the storage. Every disk is submitted as a 1 GB chunklet. This chunklet can be RAID 1, 4, 5, or 6. This fabulous feature is very useful for me because I can distribute the RAID for any volume. The adaptive optimization is the biggest feature in 3PAR. 3PAR is very usable with thin volume because it detects zeros while writing. Every time I tell the hypervisor to make the full provisioning, it makes the volume as simple provisioning in 3PAR, not full provisioning. Other vendors take this volume as thick provisioning because of which the capacity is reached quickly. It doesn't happen in 3PAR because it detects zeros. It only writes the data, and it doesn't write zeros. There are two processors in 3PAR: the ASIC processor and the main processor. The ASIC processor detects zero writing and doesn't write it, which is a big feature in 3PAR.""HPE 3PAR StoreServ is easy to use and has good performance.""This is a stable solution.""Very recently, we are able to do a lot of data center automation by being able to script some of the 3PAR actions for our private cloud."

"The solution is stable.""I have found all the features useful in NetApp FAS Series.""For us, the greatest aspect of the solution is the fact that it just runs. It is amazingly resilient. That's very important to us, because we are basically, with some exceptions, have a 24/7 operation.""Flexible and reliable storage solution with multiple features such as cloning, replication, and deduplication. Data migration can be done without any performance implications on the production systems.""The most valuable feature is SnapMirror.""I like the unified management feature because sometimes you end up running a single protocol on the entire system.""Data consolidation and visualization.""It's an easy product to use that is stable and has good performance."

Cons
"The price of this solution should be lower.""We are using a built-in solution in 3PAR. We are using All-Flash Storage, and there are some difficulties with it. HPE has now developed a new tool system to support All-Flash, and that's why we are changing our investment. They must increase its performance. I want unlimited support, which is very important for performance. I am not interested in spinning disks. HPE is developing new storage systems called Primera, but they must be developed more.""An area of improvement for this solution is an increase in the bandwidth as well as an upgrade of the storage functionality and capabilities. The storage needs to be expandable for future-proofing.""The solution could be improved in regard to space reclamation by adding automation.""Although we experienced malfunctions where a virus was running and it failed.""With 3PAR, there is remote copy software which isn't very good.""This solution only provides active-passive replication, as opposed to active-active.""As long as they can keep the solution stable, it will be good. Stability is very important to us."

More HPE 3PAR StoreServ Cons →

"The solution can improve on the replication features.""We're supposed to have used NetApp FAS Series for replication, but then one of the nodes failed, and then it's taken us some time to bring it up.""Interfacing with the cloud environment could be better. I want to be able to move some cloud volume and integrate it seamlessly with my home on-premise storage. Sometimes I have issues with port permissions. NetApp probably needs to improve more on the integration side from on-premise to the cloud.""The user interface could be improved to have better graphics and the performance analyzer could be better.""We are not able to connect to the support of NetApp from Sudan. We have to go through many agents for support, which makes it difficult.""The user interface could be improved.""You always need a huge amount of hardware to fulfill a given setup. Its deployment can be complex, especially if you go MetroCluster.""The solution could do more than just data."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "We paid for five years of support when we purchased the product."
  • "The SSD is a little bit expensive."
  • "This is not an expensive product but every time you add capacity to it, you need to pay for re-balancing."
  • "Its price is a bit high for adding another tree, but when we purchased it, it was okay with us. We had compared it with EMC and other solutions, and it was okay at that point in time. Our storage has a lifespan of seven to eight years. When you purchase it, you need to keep a headroom of around 40% to 50%. After three to four years, you generally plan for an upgrade. The price is not so bad today for two years or so, and within a year, I might find that I have to upgrade or increase the storage. This usually happens when there is a radical change or a new application has come that is consuming a lot of data, but generally, there is a plan for the amount of data that we generate and the storage upgrade."
  • "It is lower in price as compared to other vendors, such as Dell. As compared to Huawei, all storage solutions are expensive, including this one."
  • "It is a bit more expensive. IBM is cheaper than HPE in Turkey."
  • "This solution is expensive. We pay every year for support. It's a lump sum because we pay for data center support services, and everything is included in one."
  • "The cost is reasonable given that the licensing is all included once you purchase it."

  • "I've sold arrays for as little $20,000 USD and as high as $300,000 USD."
  • "It is expensive."
  • "I don't recall the price, but in general, pricing can always be better."
  • "It's not cheap, but at the same time, it's also inexpensive. It's somewhere in between."
  • "We purchased it for four years, and it wasn't expensive. It was reasonable. Every company has a different agreement with NetApp. We got everything we wanted with all the bells and whistles and all the features and functionalities."
  • "The NetApp FAS series price is very competitive compared to other solutions on the market it is a good choice."
  • "NetApp FAS Series could be less expensive."
  • "We are on a perpetual license."

    Reviews from Real Users

Below are some reviews and helpful feedback written by PeerSpot users currently using the HPE 3PAR StoreServ solution.

A SAN Consultant at a tech services company says, “One of the features that I like the most is the data replication element. The reason I like it is due to the fact that it's pretty clean on replicating data over to a second site. The product stands on its own in heavy enterprise environments. It's easy to make changes without affecting the environment. The solution is very easy to use. The product is very robust and offers very good performance.”

A Storage Manager at a financial services firm mentions, "There are a lot of screens for easy management where you can change some settings. But after a few years, the important settings were better after an upgrade, and all the vendors have other ways to upgrade their systems."

A Senior IT Infrastructure & Data Center Operation Engineer at Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) comments, “The adaptive optimization is the biggest feature in 3PAR. 3PAR is very usable with thin volume because it detects zeros while writing. Every time I tell the hypervisor to make the full provisioning, it makes the volume as simple provisioning in 3PAR, not full provisioning.”
