Distributed caching has reduced latency and now supports real-time stream processing
I think there are areas where Hazelcast Platform can improve, such as simplifying the cluster topology and sizing rules because they are still somewhat complex for someone new to Hazelcast. Understanding how the cluster topology forms and sizing rules work, such as partition balancing and traffic routing, should be much simpler. If one node has less RAM or a slightly slower CPU, it creates a cluster-wide performance bottleneck, which is critical, especially with transactional systems. Even though Hazelcast Platform has proven to be better, there can still be bottlenecks if the cluster topology and data partitioning are not easily understood. I also think that object handling and streamlined serialization should be prioritized; using standard Java serialization can be extremely slow. Providing native ultra-fast binary serialization out of the box, without requiring developers to write custom adapters, would be a significant improvement. It would be great if there were ready-to-use adapters for streamlined serialization and object handling.

Facilitating real-time business insights with enhanced data querying
Coherence is beneficial due to its multi-indexing to the same object and filtering based on data attributes within the object, followed by aggregation. These features facilitate querying data with multiple keys rather than just a single key. Its real-time data processing capabilities provide insights for business decisions with up-to-date information.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"There have definitely been a lot more latency reductions and better SLA performance since using Hazelcast Platform, resulting in faster time to market overall for new features and capabilities because the architecture has become simpler."
"A single logical cache scattered across various geographies ensured we had only one cache to look against (location transparency) at the same time, ensuring high availability."
"We are storing information from one of our applications; this allows us to answer requests in milliseconds, while the application would take seconds to answer requests from clients."
"The biggest improvement is in speed - everything is faster from record retrieval to workflow processing."
"High availability, distributed calculation features, and WebLogic integration are the most valuable features to me."
"Basically reducing response times to extremely small latencies in their apps."
"A robust standalone caching solution that prioritized speed of data serialization and data integrity was a must, and Coherence delivered on that front."
"This product helped our organization to focus on implementing business logic without worrying about scalability on user loads of huge data queries."
"I have used Oracle Coherence for more than 10 years, from version 3.5 through 12.1.2.1."

Cons

"If one node has less RAM or a slightly slower CPU, it creates a cluster-wide performance bottleneck, which is critical, especially with transactional systems."
"The cross-site or cross-data center replication seems slow. This can be improved."
"Complexity being a huge contributor to risk/cost for projects, I am more likely to use other products as a result."
"Cluster management tools that are independent of WebLogic. Dynamic cluster config rollout and rollback."
"The price is high. I believe there should be a cheaper version for only the caching solution."
"I would like to see a more modern API like Hazelcast or Infinispan."
"Due to the licensing prices, we are looking for other solutions as an alternative to Coherence."
"They could make the configuration management easier."
"We have encountered the occasional minor bug and very occasional more serious bug."
