Handles high traffic efficiently and simplifies complex routing with rule-based logic
I think HAProxy is good as it stands now, but I believe there could be improvements. gRPC has recently been implemented, which is great, along with TLS 1.2 and 1.3 support, and HTTP 2.0 is also available. However, I'm unsure about the benchmark of those HTTP 2.0 requests on HAProxy. If there were any other protocol with better performance than HTTP 2.0, or perhaps mTLS and other similar features, including that in HAProxy would be really great. For improvements, I think that during setup and configuration, the steps provided are neat and clear. Anyone can easily install and configure it. There are many kernel tuning parameters also available, which is great. For specific improvement, in terms of logging, I think printing the full object of the request may help, or if there's a way to reference two requests, it would be beneficial to find a complete session history from a logged-in customer, as it would help analyze customer and user analytics.

Patch automation has boosted compliance and saves hours in global server maintenance
The best features that Ivanti Virtual Application Delivery Controller (vADC) offers include its ability to help make us compliant at 95%, which is a big win if you are able to comply with 95% of devices, and it is also helpful for providing exact error codes, allowing us to troubleshoot accordingly. The features of Ivanti Virtual Application Delivery Controller (vADC) impact my daily workflow by saving time and helping in troubleshooting as well. Ivanti Virtual Application Delivery Controller (vADC) is very helpful, and I have nothing else to add about its features. Ivanti Virtual Application Delivery Controller (vADC) has positively impacted my organization by allowing us to comply with all the servers with security patches, which include many bug fixes and do so in no time. With Ivanti Virtual Application Delivery Controller (vADC), we are able to patch servers faster than we used to do via SCCM, and we save at least two to three hours in our global patching.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I can't speak to all of the HAProxy features because we don't use them all, but load balancing is very good."
"HAProxy potentially has a good return on investment."
"HAProxy Enterprise Edition has been rock solid. We have essentially had no downtime caused by our load balancers in the last 10 months, because they’ve worked so well. Previously, our load balancers caused us multiple hours per year in downtime."
"Load balancing is valuable, and we are also using the WAF feature."
"What I like best about the product is its simplicity and speed. When you need to set up a load balancer quickly, HAProxy offers options like sticky sessions and round-robin. It's also fast to configure, including adding SSL for security. While it may have fewer options than other solutions like F5, HAProxy gets the job done for basic load-balancing tasks."
"The solution is effective in managing our traffic."
"I have deployed over 50 instances of HAProxy over the past 15 years and never encountered any stability issues."
"Scalable and inexpensive."
"The strict security features of Ivanti Virtual Application Delivery Controller (vADC) stand out for me because essentially, you can have the hashing of all the programs that you can launch, the signature to check, the very deep analysis of the project, and the very deep log that helps you develop and analyze security."
"Ivanti Virtual Application Delivery Controller (vADC) is a very good tool that companies should use, as it is very reliable, very fast, and allows you more time to work on other cases because Ivanti handles everything smoothly."

Cons

"There is no standardized document available. So, any individual has to work from scratch to work it out. If some standard deployment details are available, it would be helpful for people while deploying it. There should be more documentation on the standard deployment."
"The solution's dashboards and reports could be improved."
"Dynamic update API. More things should be possible to be configured during runtime."
"There is room for improvement in HAProxy's dynamic configuration."
"The basic clustering is not usable in our very specific setup. The clustering is mainly a configuration replication and is great in a case of active-passive usage. In the case of an active-active (or with more than two nodes) where the configuration is not fully identical, it cannot be used as-is."
"While troubleshooting, we are having some difficulties."
"The solution can be improved by controlling TCP behavior better and mandating to clients what the expected outcome must be in order to avoid receiving contestant timeout logs."
"The product does not have any new technologies."
"To improve Ivanti Virtual Application Delivery Controller (vADC), I would suggest integrating something to fix the registry of a server, as including any steps that fix the registry or any DLL files causing issues where patches did not install properly would be beneficial."
"I chose eight out of ten for Ivanti Virtual Application Delivery Controller (vADC) because from the point of view of the configuration, it took so much time on the security side to configure."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The tool is open-source."
"When it comes to pricing HAProxy is free."
"I use the open-source version of the product. I don't have experience with the licensed version of the solution."
"It is free of cost."
"HAProxy is free software. There are optional paid products (support/appliances)."
"I think that the pricing is very fair, I would definitely recommend buying the Enterprise license."
"The price is well worth it. HAProxy Enterprise Edition paid for itself within months, simply due to the resiliency it brings. It was a bit more expensive than we were originally interested in paying, but we are thankful we chose to go with HAProxy."
"We are using HAProxy as an open-source."
