Google Firebase and SAP S4HANA on AWS both compete in the realm of digital solutions, focusing on app development and enterprise resource planning, respectively. While Firebase offers a strong suite for app development, including real-time capabilities, S4HANA provides robust ERP functionalities, excelling in finance and manufacturing support.
Features: Google Firebase includes Real-time Database, Google Cloud Functions, and Crashlytics, enabling seamless app development and deployment without a significant backend setup. SAP S4HANA on AWS offers comprehensive ERP capabilities, exceptional database management, and integration with AWS, catering to extensive enterprise needs, especially in finance and manufacturing.
Room for Improvement: Google Firebase users seek better control over Cloud Functions, improved log management, and more flexible pricing models, along with enhancing technical support. SAP S4HANA on AWS can benefit from addressing the high cost of hardware and refining product compatibility with virtualization platforms. Improvements in the licensing process and documentation clarity are also suggested.
Ease of Deployment and Customer Service: Google Firebase generally features easy deployment on the public cloud with clear documentation, while community support is strong, although official support could be better. SAP S4HANA on AWS offers varied deployment options across public cloud, private cloud, and on-premises environments, but may require complex initial configurations. Nevertheless, AWS provides responsive support.
Pricing and ROI: Google Firebase is praised for cost-effective pricing models, including a generous free tier, but the usage-based pricing can bring unexpected costs. SAP S4HANA on AWS is considered expensive due to licensing and maintenance costs; however, its comprehensive features justify the investment for large enterprises. While Firebase assures strong ROI with lower costs, S4HANA's ROI aligns with its extensive enterprise capabilities.
On a very good implementation, usually, if the scale of the business is large, the implementation can give a payback within six, seven, or eight months of implementation.
Although our investment was higher compared to the previous ERP system, we are able to derive ROI from SAP S4HANA on AWS.
I do not currently find any other competitors that match its offering.
If the community doesn't have the answers, then I contact the Google Firebase team directly.
We received the right support during our implementation and continue to benefit from it.
They have a support model available, with first-level support handling initial issues when I integrate the system.
It can handle all tiers of the market effectively.
Google also has some other cloud services, but when we compare Google Firebase, it is not as scalable.
I would rate the scalability of Google Firebase as eight because I miss some features from MS SQL, particularly the SQL functions.
AWS has been running probably 96% of Fortune 500 companies across the globe, so scalability is not an issue.
The product is versatile and can manage complexity beyond expectations.
In our company, we have prototypes on Google Firebase and productions on AWS Cloud.
As a finance controller, we have seen improvements in finance deliverables, SLAs in payables, and reconciliation timelines.
Since Google Firebase is a NoSQL platform, areas for improvement include enhancing query functionalities to be more equivalent to SQL, like MS SQL.
Automation testing with mobile devices could be improved, especially in regression testing to ensure that new feature launches do not affect other features.
Having these integrations as a single source rather than working in silos would be beneficial for customers.
SAP introduced flexible workflows, which are even better if I want customized workflows for my documentation within the procurement domain.
The interface and interaction with the technical team require intensive training.
They could have implemented credits based on usage so that users would be able to easily calculate the pricing and provide it to customers.
Google Firebase offers a reasonable pricing structure.
The initial setup required a higher investment, but the return on investment has justified the cost.
SAP is not cheap, with many hidden costs encountered during implementation.
What I appreciate most about Google Firebase is the speed, accuracy, and security it offers.
Serverless cloud functions.
These features are invaluable for mobile development and ensuring smooth internal operations.
The costing and personnel planning integration are among the strongest areas of this solution.
From the finance side, we have enhanced our internal controls and reduced the timeline for closing the month from a year to just two days.
The configurations are quite comprehensive, and the product can handle many complex scenarios.
