Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"GeneXus evolves with technology.""It is fast in creating systems and connects to the database quickly.""I find the implementation process of GeneXus to be easy.""The integration module is the most valuable feature of this solution for our business, as it allows our clients to create new systems based on their outdated databases, across all API's.""In Knowledge Base, being able to model the workflow before developing the screens is great. We first work with the tables or the transactions using GeneXus and then we work on the screens.""The most valuable feature is that GeneXus works with several languages. It's possible to develop chatbots and other functionalities.""With GeneXus, we can create logical representations of transactions in the form of objects.""The front-end features are the most valuable."

"It is very scalable from its licensing to design. We have not had any performance issues when scaling.""The product has reduced the time that it takes us to produce apps.""There are two most valuable features: one is the ability to pull data from a bunch of different places and put them together. And the second is the speed at which you can get a new app developed. So instead of waiting months for this new app to come out, if you have an internal team putting it together, you can roll it out in weeks. I've even seen days. It's incredible how fast you can make changes.""Zudy has increased development speed. What would take us months to be able to complete, we're getting done in a matter of weeks. I have a number of projects that we were working on that I thought that we'd [only] be able to get completed by next year. We've already completed them and we're still in the year 2020.""The product is super fast at getting things done.""Vinyl has been a game changer in how we can now quickly deploy key features and new products.""Maintenance is very minimal. With our live production applications, they just don't break, which is great. We love that. There's zero-to-little maintenance required.""The ease of moving around the platform cannot be understated."

Cons
"It would be better if GeneXus had a wiki. The developer needs some experience to work with the tools. It would be better if they could improve the community. If we have some problem, I open a ticket that takes us to a board, and I have to describe my issue in detail. If the tools have a general community for us to explore with some videos or some articles, I think that that may help the developer.""It would be helpful to have additional assisted processing with training.""GeneXus is a wonderful tool for the backend. It's the best in the world, but for the frontend, GeneXus needs to improve. There should be easier steps for managing various aspects, such as alerts and messages to show to the end-users.""GeneXus's user interface has room for improvement.""I told them to add something about Angular. They're already working on adding it.""There are issues in integrating it with other solutions.""It's expensive for a company.""Documentation is always an issue. In order to develop with GeneXus, there is very little documentation. The documentation is not clear enough in order to develop a great tool."

"Version 2.3 has a good UI but we want a more customizable UI.""If it could be prettier, it might be a bit more attractive on the business side. The most meaningful improvement might be done in some of the aesthetics of the reporting and dashboarding.""The features that I'd like to see in VINYL next would be the ability to have more control over, or have a rule-based control over column headings and column labels.""During the initial rollout, the text editor wasn't 100% what we were looking for, but we were able to get the job done. After some discussions and finding ways to use different plugins during the short term, Zudy actually came back a few months later and said that they have integrated a standard product into their text editing that checked all the boxes for us.""Upload time of documents that needed to be uploaded was a request that we were having an issue with. That issue got resolved in [near] real time, within probably 30 minutes.""There are a lot of almost "hidden" features captured in these Edge Case settings... If you want a scroll bar at the bottom, instead of having it select rows to show, you have to select Disable Panel Location Service, which doesn't sound at all like what it's supposed to do. Naming conventions could be changed a little bit.""Eventually, a nicer way to create certain features, like the way that we create PDFs, would help. Sometimes the way that it resizes when I have multiple windows up, could also be better. It's minor stuff though. It's edge-case stuff.""Some new features I think I'd like to see is visibility into running jobs so that we can see what the status is, or it's not stuck in its process and doing its thing, or how much longer it's going to take. I'd also like to see a native calendaring function so we can put calendars into our apps with maybe even recurring tasks or appointments and that sort of thing. We'd also like to see multi-select lists. The users being able to pick multiple things to filter on and get a list and be able to export that list."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The solution is very expensive."
  • "I don't know about the price because I am an employee, but I hear it's cheaper than other tools."
  • "This solution offers multi-plan licenses, depending on the size of the company and the features required, as opposed to being priced per user/device."
  • "The cost of a GeneXus license is extremely high. At the same time, one person using the solution can do the work of three Java or data developers. I think that's why they charge so much. It's too expensive, which is one reason it isn't widely used."
  • "It's expensive. I'd rate it a four out of ten in terms of pricing."
  • "I give the cost of the solution a four out of ten."
  • "The price is good."
  • "I know that its licenses are generally per year, and in the past, the license for GeneXus was around $5,000, but I don't know what's the current price of the GeneXus license."

  • "It is affordable."
  • "You always look for the underlying cost, there's always underlying costs but the value is fine. I don't think it should cost any more. You pay for the software but you're also paying for their employees, when they work onsite for you."
  • "Pricing is less than the cost of a consultant and the value you receive is much greater."
  • "Pricing was actually one of the things that drew us to the product initially... the way it was licensed at the time, I got a flat monthly fee from Zudy for the Vinyl product, which allowed me to basically have unlimited use of it... We have an annual license, we pay monthly. It's very competitive and very worthwhile given the return we get out of it."
  • "The key thing here is that the pricing is just one price. We can do as much or as little with the product as we want to which is very attractive. I don't have to worry about if I build a new app, I have to pay more. Or, if I put 20 more people logging into the app, I don't have to pay any extra for that either."
  • "I feel the product’s pricing is a good value. The licensing model is very straightforward. You license the platform and you can build however many solutions you want with it."
  • "We have seen a 30 percent decrease in time for some of our workflows."
  • "Pricing and licensing are expensive."
