Supports secure remote authentication and provides comprehensive user activity tracking
The most important feature is the security capability because it provides a substantial amount of security for admin-related activities. Fortinet FortiAuthenticator can be used from anywhere in the world, and the authenticator services function globally. This global accessibility is one of the critical advantages, particularly since admin features are critical and security is a real concern. With Fortinet FortiAuthenticator, secure usage of firewall services and related functions is achieved. A complete log of all users who access the authenticator setup is maintained. Monthly logs are reviewed to check for any unnoticed activities. Each authenticated user's complete activity history is recorded. This logging capability allows for providing access to more admin users while ensuring security is not compromised and all users can be monitored.

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I work a lot with Fortinet products and I call the support often. They are very quick to respond and the support is very good."
"I prefer the passing tool that sent an active directory console to a Fortinet FortiAuthenticator, then Fortinet FortiAuthenticator does not pass the locks."
"The solution is easy to learn and makes it easy for our users to add FortiToken, and it's very easy to integrate if you have other Fortinet devices."
"The response from Fortinet is very fast."
"For someone concerned with multifactor authentication, I'm satisfied with the product."
"FortiAuthenticator is easy to use."
"Fortinet FortiAuthenticator has improved our organization because we are able to can create identity-based policies, for example, who are you and where are you, and we are shifting from the IP-based to the identity-based."
"I appreciate its ability to provide multi-factor authentication, but it's primarily focused on this function."
"The self-service functionality for password/access management reduced our need for manual intervention."
"For v8.4, you can work easily if you stick to OOTB, however, should you require customization, then the tool is very flexible using SQL/VB knowledge to extend."

Cons

"FortiAuthenticator should integrate with other applications."
"The solution could be more automated. It should be able to let me automate a lot of things so that what normally is done as a matter of manual processes can be handled quicker."
"Initially, we deployed Fortinet FortiAuthenticator on VMware and faced challenges when migrating to an OpenStack environment, which required reconfiguration. I recommend Fortinet make its images migratable between environments."
