Has provided powerful customization for unique monitoring needs but needs more out-of-the-box capabilities
In my opinion, the best features of Elastic Observability are their flexibility to integrate with other existing systems and the ability to build a unified monitoring tool that can integrate with existing ones and end-to-end user journeys which require a lot of customizations. The greatest feature in Elastic is the ability to customize. This is similar to my comments about customizable dashboards in Elastic because it's visible to the analyst. However, it's very great. Customizing these dashboards can meet the customer's specific use cases and specific stories that they have in their environment, their special environment that doesn't look like other environments. The dashboarding in Elastic is highly customizable to the level of logos. If the customer wants his company logo in the dashboard, it can be done.

Simple to use but incredibly powerful
Great for rapid root cause, data is presented back in a way that is easy for non technical stakeholders to absorb (DBAs, Cap Analysts, testers, developers, application support), easy deployment on Oracle and SQL systems. Trending all SQL statements over time is invaluable to understand step changes. i.e is this slow because it is processing more or because an explain plan has changed.Dashboards and reports are very powerful.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution is open-source and helps with back-end logging. It is also easy to handle."
"The price is very less expensive compared to the other solutions."
"We use AppDynamics and Elastic, and the reason why we're using Elastic APM is because of the license count; it's very favorable compared to AppDynamics, inexpensive, and economical."
"Machine learning is the most valuable feature of this solution."
"From my experience with several major customers, the most valued feature of Elastic is its log analytics capabilities."
"The Elastic User Interface framework lets us do custom development when needed. You need to have some Javascript knowledge. We need that knowledge to develop new custom tests."
"Elastic APM has plenty of features, such as the Elastic server for Kibana and many additional plugins."
"Elastic Observability is highly stable; we ingested nearly 170 million records in the system and we have tested it, and you get your reports and dashboards within a few seconds, so it doesn't take much time."
"Gives an excellent perspective on the state of the system at fault as well as the past!"
"Great for rapid root cause, data is presented back in a way that is easy for non technical stakeholders to absorb (DBAs, Cap Analysts, testers, developers, application support), easy deployment on Oracle and SQL systems."

Cons

"The auto-discovery isn't nearly as good. When you drop the agent onto the JVM and you're trying to figure things out, having to go through and manually do all that is cumbersome."
"The solution needs to use more AI. Once the product onboards AI, users would more effectively be able to track endpoints for specific messages."
"The solution would be better if it was capable of more automation, especially in a monitoring capacity or for the response to abnormalities."
"Elastic Observability is an excellent product for monitoring and visibility, but it lacks predictive analytics. Most solutions are aligned with the AIOps requirements, but this piece is missing in Elastic and should be included."
"The price is the only issue in the solution. It can be made better and cheaper."
"I would have preferred built-in tools to manage the indexes on deployment for better visual representation, as the initial feedback regarding system performance and data storage was fairly primitive and lacking."
"More web features could be added to the product."
"They need more skills in the market. There are not enough skills in the market. It is not pervasive enough on the market, in my opinion. In other words, there isn't a big enough user base."
"Web monitoring could be more robust and intuitive."
"The user interface requires little change-but this problem is small compared to the capabilities of the tool"

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We will buy a premium license after POC."
"One needs to pay for the licenses, and it is an annual subscription model right now."
"Elastic Observability is cheaper than other similar solutions, such as Dynatrace. Its license calculation is based on various factors like data volume and physical infrastructure, particularly related to RAM capacity."
"The product is not that cheap."
"Elastic Observability's pricing could be better for small-scale users."
"Pricing is one of those situations where the more you use it, the more you pay."
"We have been using the open-source version."
"Since we are a huge company, Elastic Observability is an affordable solution for us."
